Anyone else love being up and about before the rest of the family?

It’s bliss on the sofa at the moment. Even the Labradors are still snoozing. There was a brief flurry from the cat who has now vanished upstairs. Later on we’ve got Remembrance services, a dog walk, lunch out, a birthday party, laundry and homework.

In the summer, I’d probably sit out in the garden. But now I’m on the sofa, with a view of the frosty grass. I’ve got a pint of tea, my reading lamp, a magazine and am planning on half an hour, an hour if I’m lucky of peace.

Anyone else absolutely love this time of day?

No if I go down stairs then they all wake up. So I hide in my room where I can't get anything done.

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 12/11/2023 06:54

Me, me and me...

I'm sitting on the spare room bed, with a coffee and my crochet. Sheer bliss Halloween Smile In the summer I sit in the garden. This is my magic hour......

STST · 12/11/2023 06:55

I’m here too!!!

Isn’t it just the absolute BEST time. Totally with you.

Sofa, watching the garden, pint of coffee in my case.

Catching up on emails, planning/making lists for the week.

Utter utter bliss

BlackeyedPetitsPois · 12/11/2023 06:56

Absolutely!!
I could have written that post word for word- except I have coffee instead of tea!
in the summer I sit on the decking in the back garden listening to the world wake up.
Bliss 😍Enjoy the peace x

crazyivy · 12/11/2023 06:59

wait until you have teens- you will be the only one up until lunch time

IrritableVowel · 12/11/2023 07:01

I love it.
On a week day I have an hour to myself with the dogs snoozing beside me on the sofa. At the weekend, I might get a few hours.

I have had a bit of a lie in today, but getting up now to make coffee. I will let the pups out for a wee, then all of us will settle under a throw until DH wakes, which could be 10- ish

Rosecutting · 12/11/2023 07:01

Yes, love it !
Rare “me time” opportunity when I can sit with my huge cup of tea and read my book uninterrupted.

I have teenage larks. DD is already awake , reading and messaging I guess but she won’t come out of her room until eight, when she smells bacon and bagels!

Love it too. The dog is so happily peaceful at this time of day

110APiccadilly · 12/11/2023 07:04

Yes! I get up half an hour before the children every day. Generally before DH, but if he is up it's because he has an early shift at work and is having breakfast so I just keep out of his way - which he prefers as he likes time to come to as well.

whosaidtha · 12/11/2023 07:05

All three of mine are up at 5:30 so I absolutely am not getting up before them!!!

BlueEyesGotMeLike · 12/11/2023 07:05

Yes, I love it. I do an early workout and then cuddle with the dogs for a bit. I love the peace....until the dogs decide it’s time for breakfast and walkies. I might get another half hour. 🤞

ABeautifulThing · 12/11/2023 07:06

Oh yes! I'm a morning person so I'm often first awake. Currently living a temp accommodation where every move you make disturbs someone... So currently use being awake starting in bed doing puzzles and going on Mumsnet... But no cuppa 😭
One of the biggest things in looking forward to when we move into our house (we're building it) will be pottering quietly first thing, with a cuppa and the world to myself - can't wait! No better feeling!

Smurfmurf · 12/11/2023 07:07

I love this time of day. Everyone is still asleep. I’m back in bed with a coffee, I’m watching MotoGP on mute and reading a bit on here too. Up soon though. Busy day ahead.

nightnurse82 · 12/11/2023 07:07

Oh yes, I usually get an hour to enjoy a cup or tea and toast alone, catching up with last nights strictly. I love it.

Vettrianofan · 12/11/2023 07:09

No idea what that's like as they always wake up at the same time or before me!

thewalrus · 12/11/2023 07:09

Me too! Early Sunday morning might be my favourite time of the week (I go to the gym early on Saturday, which I also love, but in a different way).
I go over the calendar for next week and meal-plan. I'm the sort of person who loves making lists (sticking to them is a slightly different matter), and I take great pleasure in this little corner of organisation.
Very envious of all the dog-cuddles. We lost our girl a couple of months ago, and Sunday morning, like everything else, isn't quite as lovely since.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 12/11/2023 07:11

Normally yes, I love it. I go and sit in the living room and knit, with a big mug of tea. Not this morning though. Dh woke up first, unusually, so I made us tea and came back to bed.

Caspianberg · 12/11/2023 07:16

Mine wakes so early, it’s very rare I am up before. I would have to wake at 4.30am to get a reliable hour peace

Lovelyautumncolours · 12/11/2023 07:17

Me too - I love my early morning coffee alone,it's such a peaceful time of the day. Will go for a run soon and then I expect a bit more quiet coffee time when I get back

Ohmych · 12/11/2023 07:17

That's been me this morning. Dp woke me up at 5am going to work. I got up at 6 for a cuppa. I had an hour before Dd woke up.

I'm usually up last, after everyone else, but haven't even been to bed yet so I'm up whilst everyone else is asleep and yes, I love it when this happens. Going to get some eggs on toast and some tea in a bit.

heatdeath · 12/11/2023 07:21

I’m always up at 5:30 … everyone else starts appearing from 7 onwards. I can’t say I love it (I have horrendous insomnia & am permanently exhausted) but I appreciate the quiet … I can get my work admin done without interruption & drink lots of coffee!

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 12/11/2023 07:23

I’m lucky, being retired I can just stay in bed until whenever time I want. I have my coffee, DH was up ages ago but doesn’t disturb me because I have my own bedroom, bliss!
