I normally go for fried eggs and chips but I fancy being a little more adventurous this time. I have some nice butcher's sausages (made with dried fruit as well as pork) and I'll make some roast potatoes too. I'm thinking of something savoury and cheesy such as cauliflower or broccoli cheese and carrots.

Thankyou.

My mum always used to do jacket potato and cauliflower cheese with gammon, the best!

FuckingHellAdele · 10/11/2023 16:34

Cauliflower cheese and braised red cabbage

DogInATent · 10/11/2023 16:35

Macaroni cheese and peas - there is no other way to have gammon

If you are feeling fancy drizzle some truffle oil on the macaroni cheese

Potatoes dauphinois or cauliflower cheese. We had roasties with ham and cauliflower cheese last week. Very scrumptious.

Findapath · 10/11/2023 16:36

Oh was going to say cauliflower cheese or braised carrots with orange.Yum.

TheTecknician · 10/11/2023 16:45

Cauliflower cheese getting plenty of approval. It's years since I've had it.

These exotic sausages made with dried fruit are called 'Askwith', named for the village near Otley in West Yorkshire.

I usually do a joint of gammon for family sunday lunches - I do a cheesy type dish either macaroni or cauliflower with baked potatoes, or dauphinoise potatoes with a few different types of veg. I always think it needs something moist with it rather than dry.

bluedelphiniums · 10/11/2023 16:51

I was also going to say cauliflower cheese.

tealandteal · 10/11/2023 16:53

Yes cauliflower cheese goes super well with gammon. Personally I also think peas go very well.

TheCadoganArms · 10/11/2023 16:54

cauliflower cheese obviously.

I usually make a tray of roast new potatoes with loads of fresh rosemary, oil, salt and whole cloves of garlic

Jasmin1971 · 10/11/2023 16:55

Brandied apricots and duchess potatoes

NoSquirrels · 10/11/2023 16:56

Mashed potato, braised red cabbage.

Ffsmakeitstop · 10/11/2023 16:56

We like new potatoes with skin on., mushy peas and pickled onions.
Also live about 10 miles from Askwith.

Canwehaveaminute · 10/11/2023 16:58

My mother in law cooks her gammon in coke with cloves poked all over the top. It's pretty amazing. Finished off in the oven gives a lovely glaze

Thedm · 10/11/2023 16:58

I like potato day dauphinois. The cheesy creamy garlicky sauce goes well with gammon.

I don’t know where the “day” came from! Ignore that.

idontlikealdi · 10/11/2023 17:04

Sausages and gammon?

We either have mash, cheese sauce and peas or dauphinois and peas.

Boxing Day it suddenly becomes ham and we have ham, duck egg and chips

FussyPud · 10/11/2023 17:07

Dauphinois potatoes, macaroni cheese, or cheese and mustard mash. Possibly honey roast carrots, usually broccoli as my middle child adores the stuff.

Now I want gammon. Bums.

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/11/2023 17:08

Dauphinois and puy lentils.

Cherubimbum · 10/11/2023 17:25

Ratatouille, new potatoes and green beans/mangetout mix is a favourite with a gammon joint in our family.

TheTecknician · 10/11/2023 17:28

Thankyou all. How popular gammon is. I was lucky enough to buy a big joint in the reduced section in Morrison's. £8 from £12. Should last a while!

It's really nice with ratatouille

Also sauerkraut and dauphinoise potatoes

Papillon23 · 10/11/2023 17:33

Another vote for potato dauphinois here! Yummy.
