Just started suffering again after two decades of sleeping easily. Suspect it's bloody perimenopause.

It's 2.15am and the alarm goes off at 6.30 tomorrow. Bugger this. I've done yoga, chamomile tea, lavender on the pillow. Nothing is helping...

I have a poor sleep pattern as currently not working so find myself awake until the early hours

Sunshine802 · 08/11/2023 02:47

I have to listen to audiobooks. Ones I've already listened to so nothing I actually have to concentrate on and follow the storyline too much. Plenty of free ones on audible to try or borrow box.

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 08/11/2023 02:48

I thought I would drift off at 2…went for a wee and been on here another hour. Every night, have struggled most of my life.

Mercurial123 · 08/11/2023 02:52

Yoga nidra and making myself tired from exercise is currently working for me and no screens 2 hours before sleep.

CSB10 · 08/11/2023 02:52

Welcome to my world
Although it has improved slightly as I now take Magnesium & 5-HTP
I'd kill for 8 hours uninterrupted sleep!

husbandcallsmepickle · 08/11/2023 02:55

Been awake since about 1.30, now nearly 3am. This happens several times a week, am thinking it could be perimenopause related.

Britneyfan · 08/11/2023 02:59

Also perimenopausal here. It really is shit. I have never ever struggled with insomnia in my life until the pandemic started. I thought it was pandemic stress but I now think that coincided with perimenopause. Oestrogen gel not helping and can’t have oral HRT because of migraines. It really is shit. Not helped by having a long shitty stressful day at work with nearly every patient screaming at me about anything and everything, none of which is my fault. I came home and cried my eyes out. And will have another shitty day at work tomorrow on little sleep 😭😭

DiscoBeat · 08/11/2023 03:11

Hoping you don't see this and are asleep! I was going to bed about two hours ago but decided for some crazy reason to choose that time to use the pumpkin I'd chopped up - so made a cake and some puree for my dog. Mad woman!

Dontsparethehorses · 08/11/2023 03:21

Yep 3am and wide awake! Just had 2 weeks of holiday where things got marginally better - at least I could sleep in if I fell asleep eventually but it’s back with a crazy busy week of school being the worst culprit. Nothing I’m able to practically do anything about - just 200 things running through my head

HohiyiKozbevi · 08/11/2023 03:28

Checking in to be your regular companion.

Lifelong insomniac likely connected to autism. Been getting worse as perimenopause gets into swing, and now to top it all off I am also having chemotherapy which includes variois drugs that can disrupt sleep so I get a triple insomnia hit. Yay. On the plus side I am not expected to achieve a full day of work in the morning.

I last tried sleeping pills years ago and hated them. They sent my body to sleep but my brain stayed active and awake and it was a hellish night of hours of sleep paralysis nightmare. I might ask if they have invented something better though.

My general non-medicinal option is very dull audiobooks. Needs to be books that are more about human nature than about plot as you don't want anything too interesting to happen, and I play them at 0.75 speed to make them a bit more dull and unstimulating. Sometimes works.

Stressedgiraffe · 08/11/2023 03:29

I'm awake too. Lightly dozed from 11 to 230 but now wide awake. So I got up currently sat with coffee in my office about to do some work

MrsSamR · 08/11/2023 03:32

I've had chronic insomnia since I turned 25 - now 38! I always find it's worse this time of year for some reason. Currently listening to my husband snoring away next to me which is infuriating. At least the little ones are fast asleep though!

4catsaremylife · 08/11/2023 03:46

Awake here too, really struggling to sleep just started taking melatonin that my colleague brought me back from the US I must admit that if someone told me that sawing my leg off could help I'd give it serious thought.
Mind you tonight it's not been helped by me obsessing over the bloody HR woman at work refusing to discuss a plan in advance around my return to work after me being off sick for over 4 weeks for the first time in my entire working life.

sugarplum33 · 08/11/2023 03:47

Pregnancy insomnia here, made worse by a stinking cold and a 4 year old who likes to wake up to complain about something every night. I'd not stand a great chance of getting back to sleep at the best of times but with all this congestion it's hopeless.

I feel for all those who have had this a lifetime.

@Britneyfan Sorry you've had an awful day and people have been horrible. I hope your next shift isn't as upsetting

FlowingFoldingFlowers · 08/11/2023 04:22

Been awake for an hour and twenty minutes, husband snoring woke me

FlowingFoldingFlowers · 08/11/2023 04:24

Need to buy melatonin again, you can buy it online. Biovea.
I’d like my own bedroom I think

Zoomie1 · 08/11/2023 04:28

Awake too... worrying

daydreamingnightowl · 08/11/2023 04:37

2 year old needed settling, needed a wee mixed with pregnancy insomnia and I'm wide awake.

Hope you managed to drift back off

PinkPlantCase · 08/11/2023 04:41

This is the first night in months that my 2yo is sleeping through yet I am bloody awake 🙄🙄

Need a wee but I’m scared I’ll wake him up and he’s done so well!

VenusStarr · 08/11/2023 04:51

I've been awake since 3am, resisted looking at my phone until now but given up on trying to get back off. Dh's alarm will be going off at 5.30am.
Just worrying about work... in January 🫠

Sylver75 · 08/11/2023 04:55

I sleep fine till around 3.30am then lie there worrying I'm gonna die, health anxiety is my thing now apparently.

Yellowbluegreenpurple · 08/11/2023 05:01

Nearly 40 years of insomnia has made me quite accepting of it. Just finished a book and having a quick 'waste of 5 minutes' online before I start another one.
