How the hell do you keep socks on an 18 month old?!

He pulls them off instantly.

It hasn't bothered me throughout the summer but obviously, it's getting colder so he needs to keep the blimmin' things on.

What say you wise women of MN? 🤔

My nephew was wearing something yesterday on his socks, he’s a year old. They are called sock ons. Like straps to keep his socks on. They are on Amazon.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/11/2023 11:08

Knee length?

foreverbasil · 06/11/2023 11:08

Gaffer tape, it's the only way!

But seriously mine learned that cold toes are no fun and fleecy velcro booties at least take longer to figure out. If you're out and about have a blanket handy. They'll realise soon enough.

Sock-ons

minipie · 06/11/2023 11:09

Sock ons

But in this weather, tights

TheSandgroper · 06/11/2023 11:10

Trousers one size up. Then they are long enough to cover toesies. Good if they are still crawling.

bettynutkins · 06/11/2023 11:10

Sock ons help but might not be bullet proof at that age. They are pretty good though.

My 14 month old takes hers off all the time. If we are going out (shes doesn't walk yet so no shoes) I put on some slippers with the velcro and she's yet to be able to get those off.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 06/11/2023 11:14

Cement.

But seriously, you are just doomed to find socks all over the floor, the car, the garden, the park... anywhere your child stops moving, they will discard their socks. DD is now 22 months and we put her in the car fully dressed and we arrive at our destination to find she's now lost her socks and shoes and we have to search the back of the car for them.

One time she had managed to put one in her brother's pocket and I know he had nothing to do with it because when I found the sock, I realised why he'd shouted her name in complete surprise a few minutes earlier.

If DD stops moving for more than 30 seconds she now also takes all her clothes off.

They do stop though sometime after age 2. At least, DS did.

Tights

yikesanotherbooboo · 06/11/2023 11:17

Tights or slipper socks if they will wear them. Also ,set an example so that they see everyone else wearing socks which normalises it ( a bit like sun hat wearing).

FallingAutumnLeaf · 06/11/2023 11:20

Tights in winter.
Barefoot in summer.

Needmorelego · 06/11/2023 11:23

Tights.
Underneath the buttons of the baby vest or trousers.
Bonus of this is him attempting to pull them off will keep him quiet for a while.

Cas112 · 06/11/2023 11:25

You cant 😂

TheWayTheLightFalls · 06/11/2023 11:26

Tights under trousers

AutumnIsMyFriend · 06/11/2023 11:27

Tights!

InTheRainOnATrain · 06/11/2023 11:27

It’s 12 degrees outside here in London, and about 18 in my house I wouldn’t do tights under trousers unless the temp drops by another 10 degrees! I did slippers at home and shoes when going out.

YourNameGoesHere · 06/11/2023 11:29

Agree with others the only sure fire way to keep something in their feet is by using tights. Everything else is just futile.

Sock Ons Clever Little Things That Keep Baby 0-6 Months - TWIN PACKS (2 pack) https://amzn.eu/d/2Ce5rCH

Absolutely amazing! Best baby purchase! (This says 0-6 months but they have different sizes).

Caspianberg · 06/11/2023 11:34

Tights and shorts/ shirt dungarees for this weather when it’s cold but too warm for double layer on legs.

riffraffroff · 06/11/2023 11:42

You can't. See also; gloves 😅

eurochick · 06/11/2023 11:54

Sock ons worked brilliantly for us.

Coffeerum · 06/11/2023 12:01

At 18 months how does he pull them off, does he not wear shoes?

Sartre · 06/11/2023 12:10

As others said, tights under trousers. My DC all removed socks, gloves and hats at this age and I couldn’t do a thing about the hat or gloves. Youngest DS was the worst for it, he wouldn’t wear shoes or socks and would scream if I tried to put them on but then he’d also scream about being cold so…

Have you not met many 18 month olds? I've yet to meet one that didn't try, mostly successfully, to take off their shoes, socks, gloves, hats and even their nappies. It's hardly an unusual occurrence.
