Good Morning All! What's everyone up to today?

I'm drinking my first cuppa, in my kitchen spot, as always. The washer's on a quick, 15 mins, wash for my jeans already - I want them for work tomorrow, and I have some brisket in the slow cooker for tea. We'll have it with broccoli & cauli cheese, roast spuds, carrotts and Yorkshires I think 😋

Today I'm going to make our Christmas cake, with dd1, and some gingerbread dough to freeze to make a house closer to Christmas. I also want to make some spiced pumpkin muffins to top with cream cheese icing & maybe 6 mince pies, just because.

Dd2 decided yesterday she didn't want to bake with us. She'll be asleep a while longer anyway - she got up in the night to watch someone's stream of Adele's last night in Vegas (until January). Although, I think I hear her moving about already 🤔 We still have those couple of maths questions to look at so we'll do those at some point.

Dd1 wants her hair dying while the cake bakes, and I'd quite like to carry on my next sets of peg dolls, including a secret one, this afternoon.

I also want to write a list of stocking fillers to pick up when I go Christmas shopping with my friend on Thursday.

Tonight will be Self-care-Sunday, an idea pinched from another MN-er. Full scrubby shower, shave the bits that need it, loads of moisturiser & then settle down with Nigel Slater's Christmas Chronicles for today 😊 I might do a bit more, very slow, crochet too.

What about all of you? 🙂

I'm at work today then I'm on a three month sabbatical. Back to the office in early February.

lucysmam · 05/11/2023 09:31

What will you do with the time @TheTecknician ?

@lucysmam That sounds like such a lovely day!

I’ve got to keep plugging away at a mountain of laundry - but think I’ve done enough to kick next week off.
I’ve got apples from a friend’s garden that I’m going to make Nigella’s kuchen with later. DD2 is very happy about that.
Also thinking of inviting DD1, her BF and DGD for Sunday lunch - as I love a kitchen full on a Sunday.
Had a busy few days, so looking forward to a bit of pottering today - getting up to date with a bit of life admin and getting ready for the week ahead.

Drinking coffee, eating a bacon roll, trying (and failing) to do the crossword in yesterday's newspaper, and contemplating the ramshackle jungle outside which is overdue for attention.

Namechange285 · 05/11/2023 09:34

@lucysmam that sounds idyllic! I have been blessed with 2 hours of toddler free time so have just been for a run for the first time in 2 years! Very proud of myself and now ready for a shower and a nice cuppa before the toddler returns and chaos ensues! Have a great Sunday everyone!

RocketIceLollie · 05/11/2023 09:37

ds's football game this morning was cancelled yesterday because of waterlogged pitch so we are having a lazy morning. Rose up late this morning and only just had breakfast. We will go down the social club later as dh wants to watch a football game. Will catch up with some friends down there no doubt then back for a Sunday roast.

lucysmam · 05/11/2023 09:38

Well done @Namechange285 I'd have been tempted by a peaceful brew then a shower, without the run part 🙈

We are in Europe visiting the in-laws and I’ve just had a lovely coffee and croissant at a local cafe overlooking the sea. Vastly different from my usual Sundays at home in the Uk , where I’d be doing washing and cleaning most of the day.

newyorkinthefall · 05/11/2023 09:43

A rather chilly day here but the sun is shining. DP is still snoozing away but I’ve been up since 6.30am pottering about doing washings and writing my Christmas card list. I’ve got a PT session at the gym later then I’ll make smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels for lunch which I’m very much looking forward to.

Hopefully I’ll convince DP to go out a walk this afternoon and maybe get a nice hot chocolate. Afterwards we have a list of jobs to do around the house like cleaning out the cars and taking down the Halloween decs, nothing fun at all but I’ll feel better when they’re done.

Sausage, mash, yorkies, chilli sweetcorn and honey carrots for tea. Then DP and I will hopefully do some online Christmas shopping and choose a new bauble from Etsy for our Christmas. There’s a big firework display happening at a park nearby which would have been nice to go to but the reality is it’s always really mucky and there’s way too many people there so we’ll open the curtains instead and hopefully see some fireworks out the window.

I brought my breakfast back to bed this morning and have been doing some planning and watching videos on YouTube re a road trip we are doing next year. I booked flights yesterday so am going to enjoy fleshing out the itinerary.

Dh is at work til 12 and all teens/young adults (including middle dd who is home from uni for a few days) are still in bed.

I'm going to do some exercise, set some washing going and run the vac around.

We are meeting ILs for Sunday lunch at a nice pub later. Then I'm going to read later, maybe have a bath with all of my products. This evening will be a glass of red and an episode of something good in front of the fire. Proper chill before the weekly madness begins again.

MaJoady · 05/11/2023 09:45

First load of washing in, and just finishing my second cup of tea before heading into the garden to lift dahlias. Then dog walk with our foster before heading to MILs for Sunday lunch.

After I will be full and sleepy, but need to knuckle down and prep for a couple of big presentations on Monday. Hoping to be so full that a tea can consist of cheese & biscuits. I also need to order some tulip bulbs while they are in the sale

Titicacacandle · 05/11/2023 09:49

I'm very jealous of the wholesomeness of your post OP.

I'm on my second cup of coffee and still in bed. Will get up now.

I tidied up, did washing and changed my bed yesterday so no real chores today ignoring the garden .

After my shower I'm planning on making apple crumble for later, we're having roast chicken for dinner. I'm also going out for a coffee and cake with my friend at some point and a fireworks display later so I really do need to get up and get a move on!

Hedjwitch · 05/11/2023 09:49

Still in bed with cat and DH who has man flu.
Will get up soon, breakfast, wash on then up to the community garden for a wee bit. Need to colour my hair later and no doubt pick up DS from the station once his hangover from last night's party allows him to move.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 05/11/2023 09:51

Good morning Lucysmam and others. That sounds like a nice day ahead. I have had two coffees and a slice of toast. The sun is shining and, apart from emptying and loading the dishwasher, I have little to do. I might take a walk around the garden and do a spot of winter tidying. Later I'll visit mum. Chicken in a cider and cream sauce for dinner. Enjoy your day

I was extremely tempted to do that instead! So lovely to hear about everyone's Sunday mornings

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 05/11/2023 09:53

DH and DS are just back from junior parkrun. DD under weather and is lying on sofa watching Horrible Histories. I've done a load of laundry and washing up. Planning to potter at home for rest of morning doing homework, housework and few garden jobs. Leek and potato soup for lunch, then hopefully a short stroll somewhere this afternoon with a café pit stop. Roast lamb and plum crumble and custard for tea. At some point need to decide whether I want to apply for a new job and if so knuckle down and do it as the deadline is Tuesday...

Hidingthegoodchocolate · 05/11/2023 09:56

Your day sounds so lovely! These threads remind me of “housewife 49” or whatever the Victoria Wood thing was called, about people keeping diaries to be used as a social history 🙂

We’ve had a lazy breakfast and an empty/refill of all the machines. Just gearing up to get ready for church. Weather is beautiful today, so if we get a move on we could walk there. Bit of homework for DC to finish this afternoon, and I’m working on a new banner for the Guides hut.

FortunataTagnips · 05/11/2023 10:00

Morning! You accomplish more on a Sunday than I usually manage in an entire week, @lucysmam !

DP’s taken DD to her Sunday club,
so I’m lazing on the sofa with my second coffee. I’ll have to heave myself upstairs for a shower shortly, and then maybe do some yoga, as I’ve been feeling very achy.

When DD gets home, we’ll have pasta for lunch - and maybe apple crumble, inspired by a PP! Then I really need to work out a meal plan for the rest of the week. DD has started eating supper with us during the week, which changes everything…

If it’s still sunny after lunch, we might go for a stomp in the woods. I‘m desperate to get outside after being stuck indoors thanks to all the rain.

troppibambini6 · 05/11/2023 10:02

Morning @lucysmam and everyone else. Lucysmam was it your first week back at work this week? How did it go?

Slow start to the day for me just sat having my second cup of coffee. Made some granola and apple and blackberries yesterday so had that for breakfast with some Greek yogurt.

Dd1 is back for a flying visit from uni. She had one of her new mates with her they came for dinner with us last night then went out into town. I heard them clatter in about 2.30 so not expecting to see them anytime soon!
Will do bacon butties when they do finally show their faces.

Dd2 has two netball matches this afternoon in different locations so that will take my afternoon.
Think I will but some chicken orzo pasta in the slow cooker as no time for a roast today.

Ds1 and 2 have homework and are just chilling out today with no real plans might see if I can persuade them to walk the dogs with me.

lucysmam · 05/11/2023 10:02

@Hidingthegoodchocolate your nn made me smile - that's exactly what I do with good treats 🤣

@FortunataTagnips I get told off by the girls quite a lot atm for not sitting, but I find I get quite bored so like a moochy but full day of pottering planned out.

lucysmam. I've been in my current job for fifteen years and I really need a break from the drudge and the routine, to take stock and try to relax for a while. I also need to decide if I'm going to return to the job in February or find something else to do. I'm very fortunate in that the break is comfortably affordable.

TheSilverThorn · 05/11/2023 10:04

I am off for a walk in about 30 minutes with DH for about an hour.
Then I’m off to a friends for lunch by myself she is just in the middle of her divorce so there will be much to chat about. They are DS Godparents and long time friends, well she still is. He was a pathetic stereotype and ran off with another much younger woman. I really thought he was one of the good ones. DS GF is round for dinner tonight, ordering a board game that my mate bought round last night and watching last two episodes of Bodies on Netflix.

lucysmam · 05/11/2023 10:05

@troppibambini6 it was, and it went well, thank you! I was worn out after Monday but not so bad after Weds. Everyone's been really supportive & my little charge seems quite settled so there was no real need for me to be nervous 😊

FortunataTagnips · 05/11/2023 10:08

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 05/11/2023 10:08

First day back at work for me after 2 weeks off. Can't say I'm rocking it to be honest.
