To be so glad “Britain’s loneliest sheep” has been rescued

Reports in the Telegraph today 😊

I just couldn’t believe how a semi-domesticated farm animal - a herd animal at that - left stranded completely on his own for 2 years at the bottom of a cliff.

Kudos to the rescuers. A down vote for the Scottish society for the protection of animals.

I read about this in the guardian on Saturday I think. Kudos to the rescuers getting it done so quickly. That sheep did look in a sorry state.

Crinkle77 · 04/11/2023 18:48

Awwww poor thing. Glad it's been rescued.

pinkcobweb · 04/11/2023 18:49

yes, it is a herd animal, stressful for it to be alone

Dawn17 · 04/11/2023 18:52

Best news I've heard all day. Thanks so much for posting the update as this ewe has been on my mind since I read about it last weekend.

WolfFoxHare · 04/11/2023 18:53

I’m really glad too. I know there are much more awful things going on in the world, but this was still bothering me whenever I thought about it.

Malarandras · 04/11/2023 18:55

Yes I am genuinely happy about this! I signed the petition and I’m so pleased someone has gone and rescued the poor wee thing - it is great to get some good news for once!! 😊

AutumnComfort · 04/11/2023 18:56

Thank goodness for that, I’ve been so sad for it. Shame it took this to do it.

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/11/2023 18:58

Yanbu. Those sheep rescuers can't do anything about the war in Gaza but they could do something about a very unhappy animal. Such good news in a sea of bad news.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/11/2023 18:58

Lovely farmers!

shardash · 04/11/2023 18:58

Oh that's so lovely.

It was the bit about the sheep bleating and calling for help from a passing kayaker that got me...

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 04/11/2023 19:12

Awwww that's so lovely. 😊.

Typical SPCA though. Can't do it, but arrive when they hear others are doing it!

They probably wouldn't rescue it because it hadn't signed up to a £89 a month charity donation to them 😒

Pudmyboy · 04/11/2023 19:21

Yes I was delighted to read this, a little ray of sunshine in a grim world. I hope the sheep has a lovely retirement. Wonder if they will auction the fleece for a charity?

Munchyseeds2 · 04/11/2023 19:25

That's good news!

I'm just relieved they didn't put a bullet though its brain just as the farmers pulled it up over the top.

This is true.

Ibravedaflood · 04/11/2023 19:48

Best news I have had in a good while. Fiery Fiona made it to safety!!

feellikeanalien · 04/11/2023 19:49

I'm glad they managed to rescue her. Last I saw was that an attempt was going to be made. Poor sheep. Sounds like she's healthy though.

That bit made me have something in my eye. Poor thing. But such good news now.

Yes @shardash and @echt the sheep desperate for some attention even from a couple of random blokes passing by in a kayak. (Sheep usually run away). Really got to me. I was blabbing in about it to my family (probably thought I was nuts).

Anyway happy ending 🙂.

Sounds like she had her own cave for shelter, and lots of (wet) grass.

It's the overgrown fleeces that are the big risk - when the fleeces get too heavy, if the sheep fall over they can't get back on their feet.

BringMeTea · 04/11/2023 20:18

God bless those humane rescuers. And may Fiona live out her days happily with little friends to baa at.

Countdowntowhat · 04/11/2023 20:25

I think I’m glad? Aren’t sheep on farms usually killed for their meat / sheepskin?

<ponders whether I’d rather live completely alone forever or be murdered and eaten>

itsmylife7 · 04/11/2023 20:26

Did she fall down there?

lovely she's been rescued
