To be so glad “Britain’s loneliest sheep” has been rescued

Reports in the Telegraph today 😊

I just couldn’t believe how a semi-domesticated farm animal - a herd animal at that - left stranded completely on his own for 2 years at the bottom of a cliff.

Kudos to the rescuers. A down vote for the Scottish society for the protection of animals.

I think I’m glad? Aren’t sheep on farms usually killed for their meat / sheepskin?

<ponders whether I’d rather live completely alone forever or be murdered and eaten>

Difficult.

Is a long, miserable life better than a short, happy one?

I imagine she’ll go to a rescue place and be looked after.

Such good news. I saw the story the other week too, I'm glad someone has done something.

What lovely news. The plight of this poor sheep really upset me. Well done to the guys who rescued her. And ‘thanks for nothing’ to the SPCA.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 04/11/2023 20:40

Great news - so pleased that Fiona was rescued.

And shame on the SSPCA for supposedly 'not being able' to do what five doughty random blokes managed. It sounds like they're no better than their infamous English & Welsh counterparts; can't fault their skills in grabbing publicity once somebody else has already made the effort and there might be a few donations in it for them, though...

LuluBlakey1 · 04/11/2023 20:41

I'm so pleased she is safe and will be looked after.

rcat74 · 04/11/2023 20:43

Thank you for posting, I didn’t know she had been rescued and am so pleased!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 04/11/2023 20:47

That's terrific news. I had been thinking about this poor sheep too.

Kudos to the fantastic can do guys who saved her.
big boo to the ‘computer says no’ charities and organisations

NorthernLiner · 05/11/2023 10:13

Aaah that’s baaaa-rilliant ewes!

Bravo the rescuers!

ETA - I bet SSPCA are feeling rather sheepish…

MissHavershamReturns · 05/11/2023 10:15

Yanbu op I was so happy to see this Smile

I was so pleased for Fiona then saw a Facebook live from her new home saying her entry has been blocked by protesters.

Dalscone Farm is now closed for the winter so the idea was to settle her in and give her the care she’s been missing and see how she gets on with regular updates via live streams.

The protesters don’t want to see Fiona on a dinner plate and instead want to see her roaming free but she was going to Dalscone so she didn’t end up slaughtered and because roaming free wasn’t safe for her. I hope the protesters figure out this is the best place for her and let the team get her in without scaring her to death.

I've got a horrible feeling that the sheep remains at risk of being 'euthanised' i.e. vet bullet courtesy of the SSPCA the longer this goes on.

SM4713 · 05/11/2023 13:17

2 yrs is nothing- this sheep was lonely for 5yrs!

Amazing news and so happy.
But reading that article is infuriating - it states when the SSPCA were made aware of the rescue mission they turned up at the scene to ‘assist’. Assist with what exactly? You knew about it for 2 years and never bothered your arses!

junglejane66 · 05/11/2023 13:35

Chops for dinner!

AutumnComfort · 05/11/2023 13:49

RSPCA and SSPCA seem to have the same attitude regarding helping animals.

I can’t imagine she’ll be eaten after this - she would live in a rescue I would hope. Although protesters have stopped her arriving at the farm (protesting what you might ask).

AutumnCrow · 06/11/2023 19:33

Apparently the sheep is now re-homed with a flock. The news pictures I just saw on ITV news show her inside a barn with other sheep, eating a lot of hay.

When she was being dragged up the cliff slope she was trying to get mouthfuls of grass. Hopefully she'll settle now.

I'm so glad the loneliest sheep is now safe and happy.

My cockles have been well and truly warmed. 😊😊😊😊
