Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in my spot in the kitchen. I haven't opened the window yet - the heating's just turned off & it's cosy where I am.

There are a couple of wash loads to be done, and alllll the pots from last night's cooked breakfast for tea. The hoover could do with shoving round upstairs as well & the floors down here swept and mopped.

We're off into town for a few hours once that's done. Both girls need smaller coats, and both want darker colours. Dd1 wants to start in Primark so I'll have a wander of their Christmassy bits in the make up dept too - I'm off to sort stocking fillers on Thursday. I might pop into the Christmas shop as well.

When we get back, hopefully an hour or two peaceful crafting or reading for me, maybe with a glass of wine. Dd2 has a maths question she wants me to help with, so we'll look at that, and dd1 will probably start on her homework.

Pizzas for tea tonight, then probably more of the same - I'll read 4th Nov in Nigel Slater's Christmas Chronicles before any crafting though!

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning Lucysmam. Beware the Christmas aisles! Yesterday dd and I went to home bargains for a look. A trolley full later ...
Today I have had first breakfast and a shower. I'm heading out soon to meet a friend for second breakfast at my local garden centre. It also has lots of Christmas stuff so I may go early and buy something. It would be rude not to! A Rick Stein inspired chicken and leek casserole later. All the housework was done yesterday. Enjoy your day

AlwaysPrettyOnTheInside · 04/11/2023 09:32

Going for lunch with my friend, need to find something decent to wear 😩

Will pick up some bits in the supermarket after. Tempted to buy wine for this evening.

Will batch cook and freeze dogs food this afternoon. Maybe do some washing.

Then tomorrow is a day of rest.

lucysmam · 04/11/2023 09:34

Ah, my dad gave me a lift to pick up some meds from the chemo suite yesterday & then we came home via a garden centre. I may have purchased the lantern in my pic & left it out to look at 🤔 ('scuse the boxes of bracelet making stuff - we're off to see Taylor Swift next June & I may have got overexcited there too 🙈).

Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

Good morning @lucysmam , I hope today’s peaceful for you.
I’ve been awake since 2, up since 6.30. So far I have washed my hair, finished unpacking from holiday (been away for 2 weeks, I hate putting everything away when you get home), third load of washing on and I have rearranged the kitchen a bit. I have to keep going when I’m on a roll before I collapse in a heap.
I need to sort out my yarn for a blanket I’m crocheting, it’s going quite well and I like the stitch pattern https://woolthreadpaint.com/2022/10/06/the-blair-atholl-blanket
I need to tidy the bedroom a bit too.
DH is taking dog out now the rain’s slackening off, I have two more lads of washing then I need to think about lunch I guess.
I fully intend to sit and crochet all afternoon.

The Blair Atholl Blanket - Wool Thread Paint

Hello again! Let me introduce you to my new crochet design – the Blair Atholl Blanket! So, Blair Atholl is a small village situated in one of the most stunning areas of Scotland, Highland Perthshire. It’s less than an hour and half’s drive from where w...

Morning @lucysmam that lantern looks lovely your house looks cosy!

Ive been up since 8 reading Nigel Slater 🙂

We are off out to meet family at a national trust place I'm looking forward to it. Heavy rain forecast though so packing waterproofs and wellies! Then we are going out for dinner after which will be lovely.

Then home and get little DC in bed / teens will potter around and DH and I will settle down with wine and tv. We need something to watch now we've finished ghosts!

BoredAuditor · 04/11/2023 09:54

Morning everyone,
I'm having a cup of coffee as I look at the rain (love being inside when it's raining)
Then swimming lesson for dd, a bit of House related admin and get ds to do his homework.
Later this evening we'll go out to watch the fireworks.

mamaduckbone · 04/11/2023 09:54

Good morning @lucysmam and all. I'm still in bed - very rare for me but I'm full of cold and knackered. I woke at 7.15 but have had coffee and dozed since.
I have absolutely no plans today apart from popping over to my mum's at some point.
Whilst ds1 is out at rugby this afternoon I plan to finish the photo book I'm making for his 18th. It's been making me very nostalgic for the little boy he was.
Pizza for dinner, fire, film and an early night.

icebearforpresident · 04/11/2023 09:56

Currently lying in bed! I’m up, have had a cup of tea and came back through to read a book scroll mumsnet while the kids watch some kids vampire show on tv - our bedroom is next to the living room so I tell myself it’s no worse than sitting in the kitchen reading!

About to get everyone ready for swimming lessons (2 kids in Saturday morning swimming lessons for 4 years and not once have they been in the pool at the same time, it’s the longest hour of the week) then home for a quick lunch before DD2 has an eye test. Once that’s done we’ll return some clothes I bought last week to Sainsbury’s then home. local fireworks are on tonight so will take the kids along to that after dinner.

At some point this weekend I have to build some ikea flat pack, might do it this evening since it’s only a Malm bedside table or I might get to it tomorrow.

Dobbyatemysocks · 04/11/2023 10:02

Good morning everyone,

My plan today is to clean my house from top to bottom - if I get chance.

Making a ridiculously large pot of sweet potato and red pepper soup - I'm addicted!!

Litter pick the dog park and then the kids park. (Must remember to take a few packets of sweets to reward the kids that help)

Collect and chop all of the pumpkins in the close from the kids and then take them out with me (and a container of cat biscuits) when I walk my dog to throw in the bushes for the wildlife.

I also got DP to make a couple of nut holders to pop on a couple of trees for the squirrels.
Will probably have an hour litter picking that area too.

When I finally get home tonight, I will have a nice hot shower and then I will be settling down with my knitting and I will probably start watching a box set. Will probably fall asleep before I even get through the first episode 🤣🤣

Tomorrow, I will be batch baking some of my cakes to freeze as we are having a small Christmas fête to raise money for wildflower seeds, litter pickers and some wood to make bat boxes and hedgehog homes for next year. The remainder of what we raise will be used to buy advent calendars (and extra treats) for the local food bank.

We also, have a young mum with 2 young children who have just moved into the close and they are fleeing DV. Thankfully, they will get a furniture package but they desperately need bedding, curtains etc. We 'sent up a flare' for help last week and I currently have a conservatory full of items to take round to them later. DP is currently round there with a friend, painting and helping to sort out other DIY items.

I just hope the rain stays away - it can come tomorrow!!

Hope everyone has a really good day today!! ❤️❤️

PurpleSky09 · 04/11/2023 10:02

Morning all

Been up a while and just doing some general tidying up. I'll then prepare a spaghetti bolognese to go into the slowcooker for later.

We'll then do our usual which is a walk into the local town and get some lunch. I need to make a start on Christmas shopping, so I'll try and pick up a few bits whilst we're out.

We'll come home and potter about for a bit in the afternoon. I've got a book I need to finish reading so might try and make a dint in that. Tonight DP and I will watch Strictly together with a bottle of wine.

Have a good Saturday all.

AndStand · 04/11/2023 10:03

Off to visit my DH in hospital while he recovers from sepsis.
Just having a coffee and chocolate croissant before I head off into the rain.

Mydogisagentleman · 04/11/2023 10:05

Was up at 05.30 and walked the dog, watched a bit of telly then had crumpets, coffee and cigs.
Have started tidying in preparation for visitors who are coming to watch the TV quiz programme that DD and I made in February

OldTinHat · 04/11/2023 10:07

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone!

Love the lamp!

After yet another night of no sleep (damn medication!), I'm planning a lazy day indoors. It's hammering with rain, again, and everywhere is still flooded. I've got some crime documentaries to binge and I'm determined to make pasta pesto chicken for lunch as I've not been eating properly (damn medication again!) so must make an effort today. I'm also going to order a supermarket shop for delivery to help with the eating.

Happy Saturday everyone!

rosao · 04/11/2023 10:08

Good morning all. @lucysmam I love that lantern!

I'm part way through a big clean of downstairs. Just having a coffee break before I tackle the kitchen floors.

I'm aiming to be finished by lunchtime so I can read some of my new book. It's raining pouring here so a day in for us. Dc have finally started to like board games so will dig a few of those out this afternoon.

This evening will be a curry and possibly a bottle of wine 🍷.

InglouriousBasterd · 04/11/2023 10:11

Morning Lucysmam, how was your first week back? I hope you’re not too knackered!

Lazy start, still drinking coffee in bed but need to pop to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription in a bit. DD is meeting friends in town for lunch, I’m going to change sheets and have a quick hoover round. Also need to iron school shirts at some point! Then a very chilled afternoon and Strictly!

Have a lovely Saturday all!

Ohyoudodoyou · 04/11/2023 10:12

Away with friend and dogs on the south east coast, coffee and crumpets whilst the wind howls around us outside...the gulls are circling.
Walking to the beach than beachfront pub later for wine and food and just some amazing 'and breathe' time.

RabbitsRock · 04/11/2023 10:13

Love these threads! Morning lucysmam & everyone. Clock watching as I start work at 12. Would much rather go in earlier then I can relax. I’m going to have as late a breakfast as I can as I’m working til 6. Taking a banana & an electrolyte drink to keep me going. Popping out to get some bits soon & need to do a big shop but that will probably be tomorrow. The dishwasher needs unloading. Pretty much caught up with the laundry but might strip the beds later. Ready meals for tea as I’m working & DH will be home fairly late I think.

Theoldwoman · 04/11/2023 10:13

How many pots do you use each time you cook? That would make me cry lol. Do you have a dishwasher or room for one?

@InglouriousBasterd it went well, thank you! I was knackered after Monday but not too bad after Wednesday. Think I just need to get back into routine.

@Theoldwoman it was a cooked breakfast so lots 🤷‍♀️ I always leave Friday's pots for Saturday - any other time I hate getting up to them. There's loads of space for a dishwasher in theory, in practise though, there's actually nowhere to put one - this kitchen's incredibly badly designed!

Good morning @lucysmam and all. I am still in my dressing gown after giving dd2 some advice about something that happened at a party last night (and I enjoyed getting all the goss).
Dd1 is at work. Dh and DSS2 at football and DSS1 is on the play station.
I'm about to go for an hours swim. I've set myself a challenge to be able to swim the length of the English Channel in 9 months . Not the actual channel because jelly fish, sewage and shipping. I will do it in a pool.
I can swim for about an hour and a quarter straight comfortably as is, so I've a way to go before I'm anywhere near. Trying to swim an hour at least every other day,
For the first month or so of training for it to build myself up a bit and today is swim day! Couldn't feel less like going tbh but be ok when I get there.

Dd2 is working tonight so I'll have to go and get her at 11. I want to finish painting the bathroom this aft so I think I'll do that, have an early boring healthy dinner, then go to bed for a bit before I have to go out and fetch her.

Have a nice day all Smile

theduchessofspork · 04/11/2023 10:33

Good morning!

This thread is my cue to go and do the couple hours work I need to do, followed by a fast tidy up and trying on some clothes, deciding what to keep and returning the rest before I go completely mad being surrounded by random packages..

Calypsocuckoo · 04/11/2023 10:34

Happy Saturday everyone, and sympathies to those who are working. I have had a much needed lie in today, I’ve needed to catch up on sleep after a couple of busy weeks and weekends.
We have had breakfast and are shortly going into town to take DD for an eye test. This afternoon we need to take some clothes back to Marks and Spencer’s so will go to the big one for a look round the Christmas section. I also want to go to Hobbycraft for some air drying clay that I keep seeing on Tik Tok so I can make some homemade tree decorations.
I also have a pile of clothes to put on Vinted so need to squeeze that in somewhere.

Justonedayatatime11 · 04/11/2023 10:36

Morning @lucysmam! I'm having my obligatory Saturday morning snuggle with the kittens (you were right last week, they're never leaving!). DD is with her dad, DH is upstairs and I have a latte and a new Christmassy book on my kindle. A very very lazy weekend planned, I am still struggling with the after effects of covid, it's been over 5 weeks now and still feel dreadful. I've also lost my appetite completely and need to put some weight back on so looking for appealing gluten free calorific snacks!
Hope everyone has a lovely day
