Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in my spot in the kitchen. I haven't opened the window yet - the heating's just turned off & it's cosy where I am.

There are a couple of wash loads to be done, and alllll the pots from last night's cooked breakfast for tea. The hoover could do with shoving round upstairs as well & the floors down here swept and mopped.

We're off into town for a few hours once that's done. Both girls need smaller coats, and both want darker colours. Dd1 wants to start in Primark so I'll have a wander of their Christmassy bits in the make up dept too - I'm off to sort stocking fillers on Thursday. I might pop into the Christmas shop as well.

When we get back, hopefully an hour or two peaceful crafting or reading for me, maybe with a glass of wine. Dd2 has a maths question she wants me to help with, so we'll look at that, and dd1 will probably start on her homework.

Pizzas for tea tonight, then probably more of the same - I'll read 4th Nov in Nigel Slater's Christmas Chronicles before any crafting though!

What about all of you? 🙂

@AndStand I hope he’s feeling a bit better soon, sepsis can really knock it out of you for weeks.

I had rugby training this morning, the pitch was too boggy so we had to call it off in the end, its been unusually mild and wet here.

We’re planning a quiet day here, our son and daughter both have really bad colds, so its going to be lego, duplo, telly and snacks today, copious amounts of calpol too.

We have some airbnb guests the moment, the slept with the window open last night, when I left for rugby this morning I could hear one of them snoring, I have genuinely never heard such loud snoring, I don’t know how anyone else managed to sleep with that racket.

Have a nice Saturday everyone

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/11/2023 10:43

Lying on the balcony in the sun, wishing that (a) we didn't have to fly back from Mallorca today and (b) that I didn't have to go back to work on Monday morning. Hey ho...

evtheria · 04/11/2023 10:44

Currently back in bed, with DS next to me playing on his switch. We've had breakfast, cleared the sink, done our washes, etc. but I'm just relaxing with phone and a coffee, listening to the drizzle outside.
DP is in front room, probably playing CoD or having a nap (works nights) but will be meeting a friend later. DS and I will stay home, maybe play a board game or watch a film.
Then in evening we're all off to a local bonfire event, but it looks like it'll be pretty rainy!

Morning all! Watching DD at swimming lesson currently, then back home for lunch and laundry before heading to my Mum’s for the night. There’s a great local bonfire night where she lives which we do every year so we’re looking forward to that. Leaving DH at home as he is recovering from a horrible quinsy, it’s been quite the week for him!

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 04/11/2023 10:51

Not much. DH is in bed as he just finished a 12 hour night shift, only 2 more to go!

DD14 has friends coming for a sleep over later, and I think DS12 and DD11 will probably bum around in their PJs all day.

I am getting on with the laundry, as I do every weekend. I've had a madly busy week at work so I'm looking forward to doing not very much this weekend to be honest..

Netcam · 04/11/2023 10:54

Morning! I'm doing a government sponsored return to tech full time skills bootcamp at the moment. So my weekend will be spent developing a Mars Rover console app in JavaScript for a presentation next week, supported by coffees and dinners made by DH. Great fun for my 53 year old self, loving being a student again!

KeepJoggingOn · 04/11/2023 11:00

Still in bed which is unheard of for me at this hour, but recovering from Covid.
It has caught up with me even though l worked in a busy store all through pandemic.
So just taking it easy, reading and scrolling.Cats struggling with me.
Planning my new flower borders for next year. I grow most from seed.

KeepJoggingOn · 04/11/2023 11:01

Snuggling, not struggling.
One dropped a dead mouse on my pillow in the night, think he's trying to feed me !!

Taytocrisps · 04/11/2023 11:03

Morning @lucysmam and the Saturday morning gang. I've been lounging on the sofa enjoying cuddles with DCats and browsing on MN. Having a second cuppa and then I'll get moving and do my usual Saturday jobs - grocery shopping and housework.

Some slight seasonal variations today. I need to take down the Hallowe'en decorations and pack them away. I also want to order/pick up some Christmas presents.

One of these Saturday mornings I'll check in from somewhere foreign and exotic. Maybe I'll get lucky in the Lotto tonight Smile.

lucysmam · 04/11/2023 11:08

@Justonedayatatime11 I didn't think they were going anywhere 🤣

@Taytocrisps we need to take down the Halloween decs at some point too so Christmas can go up

Been to the hairdresser to get the roots done, got some gorgeous fresh bread from the bakery for lunch and doing nothing else all day 😄
Will do fresh nail wraps tonight when the small one has gone to bed.

ViledatheVixen · 04/11/2023 11:20

Morning, I’ve been out since 7am so am having a minute to myself, dropped teen at work, went into my own work for 90 mins to sort something out, butchers, three supermarkets 🤯 and post office.

I don’t have time for three supermarkets but one has a proper butcher, another I had to do a return and the third pick up a prescription (and the other two are expensive for things like loo rolls).

I need to tidy up a bit, laundry, put my ragu on to cook all day. I’ve literally just realised that I bought skirt not shin, I make my ragu with shin. Oh well, I’ll make black bean chilli instead.

dontforgetme · 04/11/2023 11:21

Good morning @lucysmam and all!

Have washed up last nights pots, put a load in the machine and cooked sausage sandwiches all round.

Going to have a lazy couple of hours as not feeling myself at the moment. Dd is out with family today and dh and ds currently playing on the PlayStation.

@lucysmam how was your first week back at work?

Justonedayatatime11 · 04/11/2023 11:27

@lucysmam I guess that's my Christmas presents sorted for the next 5 years Grin

Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?
Silkiefloof · 04/11/2023 11:36

Morning everyone.

Hope your DH recovers OK Andstand

We have just had the kitchen finished this week and now have the cleaners in doing a great job of cleaning the downstairs.

Then DH and I are off to a classical music concert and afternoon tea, free event at a university college. They did send an e-mail saying photos will be taken so I need to think more what to wear. 😂Its coldish and wet and originally planning something warm and comfortable.

May or may not go on to fireworks depending on weather but have seen one display last weekend which was great.

Kim82 · 04/11/2023 11:59

Good morning everyone. I’ve had a very lazy morning, I got up at 8am and I’m still on the sofa in my pjs. Dh is at work, dd19 has just set off to work, dd9 has gone to her friend’s house over the road (I think the plan is for them to come back to ours and make something with a box…) and dd16 is still in bed.

I have no cleaning to do as dh did it all yesterday as he had a day off so I plan on just pottering around the house for most of the day and doing a bit of laundry. I need to nip to Iceland to pick up a few bits at some point and my Tesco delivery is due this evening (I forgot to book a slot so the late one was the only one available).

We’re having curry for tea and then tonight dd16 is going to a party at her friend’s house and is staying over and I think dh is off for a few drinks with his friends. I plan on eating crisps, drinking wine and watching tv once dd9 goes to bed and dd19 will either sit with me or watch something in her room dependent on her mood and how busy she is at work today.

Whattheduck · 04/11/2023 12:08

Chucking it down here
Dd 18 is feeling poorly so still in bed her boyfriends popped round to see her with some beautiful flowers
Dh is in Dubai with work until Tuesday
I met my mum at a local farm shop for breakfast then went to get some bits from Sainsburys
Just put a wash on and now sat with the dog watching Shetland
Going to sort out my under stairs cupboard this afternoon
No plans for later jacket potatoes for tea and will watch Strictly

newyorkinthefall · 04/11/2023 13:02

Working until 2.30pm, I’ve done nothing but work for the past 9 days and I’m exhausted. Home to mooch about for a few hours. I think I’ll take myself off to ‘my’ room (the spare room where all my things are kept), catch up on MAFS and take my time getting ready. It’s mils birthday today and we’re going out for a family dinner. It won’t be a late one thank goodness so once we’re back I’ll get into my pjs watch last nights googlebox and have an earlyish night.

Crunchymum · 04/11/2023 13:13

The Christmas shop sounds epic @lucysmam I need some of that in my life.

We used to have one (it was a seasonal shop so it sold plants and garden stuff in spring / summer then became a Halloween come Bonfire store and then a Christmas store) but its not been around since Covid.

We had swimming this morning. It's such a grind when we have to take umbrellas and big coats and scarves etc. I feel like I'm packing for a holiday 😂

Back home for lunch / homework and a few hours chill out time before we're off to brother and SIL's for a BBQ and very pared back fireworks.

AlisonDonut · 04/11/2023 13:22

It has been howling down this morning so we've fed all the random cats and kittens on the terrace, I've chopped and prepped some kindling and the OH has brought some wood in. I've made a lovely chilli and just polishing that off. With the last of the Waitrose Extra Mature Cheddar he brought back from the UK Sad

I've put stamps on the seeds to send back to the UK so if it brightens up at all this weekend I'll pop over and post them. And I've got a quince and orange jam on the hob ready to be cooked and put into jars.

Apart from that I think when I'm not setting and lighting the fire I'll be hunkering down on the sofa and seed sorting for next year. Too wet to do any other gardening.

Chelsea26 · 04/11/2023 13:51

Afternoon all! We’ve had a hectic morning - the sink blocked last night and then two rubber bits snapped as we were putting it back together so we couldn’t fix it. Typically this is on an evening when all four kids are here and I’d made ribs and wings and twice baked jackets and Mac and cheese so there were dishes EVERYWHERE!!

Quick trip to screw fix this morning and it’s fixed so I tidied up and then made a mess again making a full English for brunch. That’s tidied away now too so DP is continuing with his garden room (in the rain) and I’m at the dining table on my phone.

DSD and DS2 are on the sofa by me watching The Princess Diaries 2 - I’m sneakily looking up if Chris Pine comes on…

DSS is upstairs on his VR and DS1 has taken himself back to bed with a headache.

Meeting my brothers, SIL’s and Nieces and nephews at a local firework display tonight. DP is staying home with the dog and looking at the weather I think he made the right choice!

Homemade juicy Lucy burgers tonight with chips and coleslaw for dinner after

Elderflower14 · 04/11/2023 14:02

Afternoon. Worked this morning. Had a delivery in the rain!! Mum cooked Fish and chips for lunch. Just had a doze as I was awake at 5.30am for work.
Going to a special service at church at 4pm. The names of loved ones who have died are read out and you can light a candle... Strictly tonight. Will have toasted teacakes and jam for dinner!

MintJulia · 04/11/2023 14:07

Cleaning basically. We were away last weekend so the whole place needs cleaning, dusting & hoovering. 🙁

RabbitsRock · 04/11/2023 19:19

Chelsea26 curious to know what juicy Lucy burgers are!

Chelsea26 · 05/11/2023 12:27

@RabbitsRock Oh they’re good! Basically burgers with the cheese inside!

I mush up mince with salt and pepper and caramelised onion bistro best granules (they bind them without egg or breadcrumbs etc) and then fold a slice of burger cheese into four, pop in between two thin patties and close the edges. The kids were impressed!
