Up with horrific D+V

Dear god I feel awful. It came on around 11pm and before that I thought I had period cramps.
I was really explosively sick multiple times along with diarrhoea.
Went to bed, didn’t sleep due to stomach cramping, just been up again with symptoms.
I’m definitely not going to work tomorrow, I’m going to phone in sick. I’m at the point where I’ve vomited so many times there’s nothing left to give.
Sorry bit of a pointless thread but everyone is asleep and I’m feeling so awful and alone right now!

I also desperately want to drink some water to clear the taste from my mouth but I’m absolutely terrified it’ll just come straight back up.

Eirgh hope you feel better soon! There must be something going round as my poor sister had this last night 😞

Rainallnight · 03/11/2023 01:18

Poor you, it sounds awful.

can you rinse your mouth and spit?

Thank you guys, it’s nice not to feel so alone!
I have been rinsing and spitting although not the same as a good drink 😔 but just going to have to push on through it.
I’m hoping to god that’s the end of it as these two episodes have been really severe, I don’t remember the last time I vomited.

Ice cubes to stop that horrible dry feeling in the mouth. Even if u drink water and it comes up its better than dry heaving or bile coming up. Hopefully you can sleep it off.

Thehandinthedark · 03/11/2023 02:29

I second the ice cube suggestion.

It's just the worst. Keep warm and have plenty of rest when it all stops. As a recent fellow-sufferer, I strongly recommend salt and vinegar crisps and full sugar lemonade when you start to recover.

Tilllly · 03/11/2023 03:14

Sip water
You'll be dehydrated after that, which'll make you feel worse

Horrible to be ill like that

lovelyjubbly888 · 03/11/2023 03:21

Thank you all, that’s me up yet again for another episode. The ice cubes sound like a great idea, I’m desperate for some hydration.

Just had about 40ml water and a sip of Lucozade, can feel my stomach pains going again. Oh joy 🥲

Snowangel23 · 03/11/2023 03:45

I had a stomach bug recently and although water did come back up I felt it helped a little to have something in my stomach so when being sick it was a bit less painful. Remember to take paracetamol for headache and stomach pains if you can. It is awful but hopefully short lived. Hope you manage to get some rest in between.

StellaLaBella · 03/11/2023 03:46

Sorry you are so miserable! Do you have an alcohol wipes? I heard sniffing isopropyl alcohol is one of the swiftest and effective ways to quell nausea. Or if you have any kids Dramamine, crush it and put in under your tongue and let it dissolve.

TheHawkisHowling · 03/11/2023 03:52

Drink about 2 to 5ml every twenty minutes if you need to. You can't let your stomach know there's water in there so sip little bits to trick it.

Lying on your left side is best for nausea and vomiting. Something to do with gravity being better that side for your stomach.

Keep cool as well. Maybe open a window a bit.

Hope you feel better soon 🌺🌺

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 03/11/2023 03:59

You have my sympathy. Went through it twice since October. Sometimes it is better to drink some water, even if it comes up again. Sometimes it is easier to bring a pillow into the bathroom and sleep there.

Mamato29192 · 03/11/2023 04:19

Hope you feel better soon x

cocksstrideintheevening · 03/11/2023 05:21

Do you have any ice pops or ice lollies?

lovelyjubbly888 · 03/11/2023 10:37

Thanks for all the replies. I was up again at 5 with D but no V! Seems to be easing off now. I’m not long awake and I’m just sitting in bed drinking water and Lucozade, but still trying to be careful with amount!

But haven’t had the stomach pains in a while now, previously I was getting them every time I sipped at water!
Had to phone in sick to work too which I feel bad about as leaving them short, but there’s really no way I could have gone

Tilllly · 03/11/2023 10:45

Definitely not
And you'd likely infect everyone if you did

Arse on sofa, tv on

HermioneWeasley · 03/11/2023 10:46

You need rehydration sachets as well if you can keep them down

lovelyjubbly888 · 05/11/2023 05:45

Hi all. After spending the last 2 days stuck in bed feeling like death, I’m finally feeling a little better. I’ve not long woken up (never normally awake at this time) but I’ve been sleeping so much I’m fed up of being asleep!

I just wanted to double check in regards to returning to work - I’ve had D and cramping yesterday, no V since Friday. My understanding is that I still shouldn’t be going to work tomorrow as I’m not 48hrs clear of symptoms?
It would also be great to catch up on cleaning the bombsite of a house

OP posts:
Thereshegoesagain · 05/11/2023 06:21

This is me too. Woke up yesterday with D, haven't been able to get out of bed since. Am sipping water and have a disgusting dioralyte that I'm taking the tiniest sips of.
I've managed to take paracetamol which really has made me feel better. I feel sick but don't think I will be sick anymore.
Just want to clean my teeth and have a shower, not sure if I can quite yet.
Hope we feel better soon...

tealandteal · 05/11/2023 06:27

This was me on Friday night too, and DH and DS1. This morning I woke up feeling 100% so hope they do too.

Yes, 48 hours from the last D or V.

lovelyjubbly888 · 05/11/2023 06:46

It must be going around, sorry to hear the two of you have had it too!
I did manage to clean my teeth but I haven’t had a shower since Thursday night and I feel disgusting, but have barely had the energy to stay awake never mind that.

OP posts:
Tilllly · 05/11/2023 06:50

Stay off another couple of days and see how you feel then
No sense rushing back below par and catching something else

Chrispackhamspoodle · 05/11/2023 06:53

My husband has this.I can tell by the smell from the bathroom it is noravirus (nurse)which is really common in November. He is eating toast now on day 5.He needed rehydration sachets as got really dehydrated on day 3.Please get some if you keep vomiting. It's really easy to pass on so he has been in the bedroom with ensuite since Tuesday.Alcohol sanitisers don't kill it so handwashing and once it's over clean all bed linen etc at 60 degrees.Off work 48hrs after vomiting.Sorry...it's horrible

Orangelover · 05/11/2023 10:55

Ugh I had something similar a few months ago OP. Awful D&V with the D lasting ages accompanied by awful tummy pain. Every time I ate or drank anything my stomach would start churning and cramping and I'd be straight on tbe loo doubled over. I didn't really start to feel better until about day 5/6. I'm a nurse and had my fair share of D&V bugs from work but that really was the worst ever.
