Iv asked in the carers section , but
I have had no replies .

I have been awarded middle rate DLA for my child . I can now apply for carers allowance , since I earn so little . Does anyone know how long it takes for them to process this ?

Mine didn’t take very long at all, I think a couple of weeks. If you receive UC the carers allowance is deducted £ for £

DragonFly98 · 02/11/2023 15:07

Up to 12 weeks you can ask to back to date for 3 months providing the dla also was backdated that long.

allofthelove · 02/11/2023 15:17

I don't get universal credit . So it's pretty straight forward . It's taken from June for the DLA to be awarded . Just will have to wait and see .

Its a few years since I first applied but it didn't take long at all as I recall a few weeks maybe?

LemonySippet · 02/11/2023 16:59

I think mine was about 3 weeks, and was backdated for 3 months.

LemonySippet · 02/11/2023 17:01

The application is super easy btw, I put off doing it for ages because I presumed it would be as hard as the DLA one but they just ask you to confirm who you're caring for and how much you care for them, they don't ask for any proof (I guess the fact that your child is in receipt of DLA is the proof), then they ask for national insurance numbers and other basic identity details and that's it. I wish I'd done it long ago.

Gingerkittykat · 02/11/2023 17:12

Backdating a claimMost claims can be backdated three months. You may be able to backdate it further if the person you care for was awarded their qualifying benefit in the last three months.

Mine was backdated back a year or more as my DD had to go through an appeal to get her PIP so it went from the first day of her award. This was around 3-4 years ago.

This is what is worrying me , it took just over 18 weeks for the DLA. I filled the form in online and have sent my payslips. Just a case of waiting .

Just like to be organised with my budget .

I heard it was just 3 months . When I filled the form out it asked for the date which I put from when my daughter was awarded in June .

It be will be interesting to see what happens , if I get a back payment .

It took about 3 months for me, but if you apply straight away they backdate it to the start of the DLA claim (june, when you first got the form), so it's a nice boost when it does arrive.

toddlermom9 · 03/11/2023 06:23

Mine took exactly 2 weeks from applying to getting the back payment in my bank

toddlermom9 · 03/11/2023 06:25

I was also awarded from the start of my DLA claim in June so around 20 weeks

Christmas202 · 03/11/2023 06:27

I’m in Ireland but I rang yesterday and they said 10 weeks here.

I applied the day I found out about the award , so would be last Friday . Sent my payslips by special delivery . I would be nice for it to be back dated to June , but anything helps at this point .
