Congratulations to her. I caught up with OC last night and thought she looked pregnant but dismissed it when i remembered she’s around my age. Then i saw the announcement today. I’m knackered just thinking about it!

Didn't Janet Jackson have a baby at 50 ish?

I figured she faked being pregnant and hired a surrogate.

MsCactus · 01/11/2023 20:17

Wow! Good on her

I have heard though that most celebs/wealthy people who have babies at this age have IVF and egg/sperm donors (usually). Of course she probs won't say either way but would be v surprised if she conceived naturally as David Mitchell is also fairly old and if you have a baby with a man over 40s you're three times more likely to miscarry.

So all in all quite surprising!

templeking · 01/11/2023 20:17

Victoria warns millions just by playing poker. I'm sure the kid will be well looked after when she dies. They come from a very wealthy well to do family.

I didn't even know it was possible to carry a baby at this age?! Crikey.

Most probably egg donation

saffronsoup · 01/11/2023 20:19

She was born Oct 26th. I am surprised they named her June as that is Barbara's middle name. Must be a name with a lot of meaning for them.

Littlelucas · 01/11/2023 20:19

Bloody hell, can't imagine anything worse at that age. My df's mum had him at 48 and I think he found it tough having older parents - he had older siblings but was basically an only child as they'd all left home. His childhood was very boring I think and then they were both dead by the time he was 25. I guess everyone has something to moan about regarding their childhood though!

Good luck to them. I love that they've called them Barbara and June 🤣

tillytoodles1 · 01/11/2023 20:19

My mum was the youngest of 10. Grandma was 49 when she had her.

KohlaParasaurus · 01/11/2023 20:19

Congratulations to them. I'd have quite liked another baby at 51, but parenting a teen in my sixties doesn't bear thinking about.

Ap24 · 01/11/2023 20:19

She looks amazing and healthy, I'm glad they're doing well.

I'm always shocked at how people feel it's okay to comment on older mother's ages. Would those doing it also comment on a new mothers weight or lifestyle choices?

BarbaraofSeville · 01/11/2023 20:04

Why are people talking as if the parents aren't going to survive until the baby is an adult?

When we're saving for pensions it's assumed we're all going to live into our 90s, so I for one will be extremely pissed off if I die before I've barely retired and made a start on spending my pension.

because there is a very good chance the parents won't survive until the child is an adult, thats why. And whatever age the parents die, that child is going to lose her parents 20 years younger than she would have done if they had been 31 when she was born

Burpsandrustles · 01/11/2023 20:21

What's oc

Littlelucas · 01/11/2023 20:21

Would those doing it also comment on a new mothers weight or lifestyle choices?

Yes, of course - you only have to read MN to see that! It's human nature.

I'm pretty sure VCM has a very thick skin and doesn't give a shit!

Mrsjayy · 01/11/2023 20:22

Good luck to herI'd rather poke my eyes out I'm 52 and grouchy when my dog gets me up too early far less a baby!

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 01/11/2023 20:23

CobwebsAndCauldrons · 01/11/2023 19:46

Yeah - odd that David is only a couple of years younger than VCM and no one is commenting on his age.

Congratulations to them both.

Edited

I think they're both far too old and could not think of anything worse 😳

She hosted a really good HIGNFY only a couple of weeks ago, I don’t think her imminent arrival was mentioned then.

She was an excellent host of that show. I love her on OC too. I have until today thought she was early 40s and not the same age as me (we would have been in the same school year!) My dd thought she was pregnant on either this episode or the last one but dismissed it.

MissedItByThisMuch · 01/11/2023 20:24

chachachachangesoolala · 01/11/2023 20:03

I think VCM and DM are fabulous but I think 51 is too old to become a parent internationally.
I really hope that they remain fit and healthy well into their 70s, but parenting a teen when you're mid-60s in going to be hard.

Seriously how old and decrepit do people on here think you are in your mid 60s?? I read this sort of thing all the fucking time! I can assure you it is not “hard” - at least not harder than parenting a teen is at any other age. Being a parent in my 20s on the other hand I would have found intolerable. We’re all different.

elliejjtiny · 01/11/2023 20:24

Good for them. I wouldn't fancy having a baby at 41, never mind 51 though. When I was having my youngest at 32 I was the oldest by quite a long way in the maternity ward and the same age as one of the grannys.

ElaineMBenes · 01/11/2023 20:24

These days, not so much, but this child is still unlikely to have her parents around if/when she gives birth herself.

My mum had me when she was sixteen. She died before I had children.

moetmoet · 01/11/2023 20:25

@ArcticBells

"Most probably egg donation"

Yes I think it would have to be but what I mean is, the fact that a 51 year old body is still able to produce the right hormones to grow the baby and give birth! Amazing.

You do hear of the odd woman conceiving in later life, maybe they had a nice surprise!

ScribblingPixie · 01/11/2023 20:25

An amazing mother (and father) to have. My friend had super young parents and I used to be jealous of how much time they'd have together but her dad died just after mine when there was 30 years between them. Life's a bran box. Lots of happiness to them.

ChristmasQuestions · 01/11/2023 20:28

I prefer Violet June to June Violet but it's still a very nice combination. Congratulations to them all.

My gran had a surprise baby (my mum) in her 40s. This was in 1955. She then lived until 2004 so even most of her grandchildren were adults by then. Someone else I know has terminal cancer at 43. The luck of the draw plays a big part.

happyhippiehippo · 01/11/2023 20:30

Congrats to her! Not that unusual, I don't think. When my daughter was at primary, the youngest mother when the kids were starting Reception was 25/28 years old. Most of the others were in their mid- to late 30s. We even had 2 mums who had their 3rd and 2nd babies, respectively, at 51 and 52 years!

EmmaEmerald · 01/11/2023 20:31

One of my aunties had a surprise baby at 52. It scares the heck out of me. Are there ways to test your risk of pregnancy? Mum tells me she thought she was menopausal.

Scorchio84 · 01/11/2023 20:31

That's lovely news for them both, I'd love a "surprise" baby at my ripe old age of almost 40 & if I had the money I'd be definitely look into egg donation or whatever was recommended to make it happen, I've no doubt their new baby is very much wanted & will have a lovely life
