Congratulations to her. I caught up with OC last night and thought she looked pregnant but dismissed it when i remembered she’s around my age. Then i saw the announcement today. I’m knackered just thinking about it!

Ah that’s great news for them. But I’m still reeling that Victoria is 51, she looks a lot younger.

I think she looks her age although I had her at 48/9 but not much younger.

adriftabroad · 03/11/2023 07:47

Yep. Me too. Looks 50.

Mrsjayy · 03/11/2023 07:49

I mean there is nothing wrong with looking her age she looks great.

adriftabroad · 03/11/2023 07:50

Iwas actually just typing the same.

MrsGrumpyKnickers · 03/11/2023 07:53

Maybe I haven’t seen her recently. I’d just assumed she was way younger than me!

adriftabroad · 03/11/2023 07:55

Nothing wrong with being 50, looking 50, having help conceiving (at any age)

Most people move on to a different chapter once DCs leave home. Which is usually between 50 and 60. Each to their own.

51 is an unsual age to chose to have a baby. As is 16. Both have their merits and complications.

because there is a very good chance the parents won't survive until the child is an adult, thats why. And whatever age the parents die, that child is going to lose her parents 20 years younger than she would have done if they had been 31 when she was born

Average life expectancy in U.K. is 80 so the girls would be around 30. Added to that wealthy people tend to have a longer life expectancy .
I had two children at 44 and 46 so 5 years ahead of VC - perhaps they have been prepared to have June slightly later as June and Barbara hopefully now have each other for support ? Absolutely brilliant news for a lovely couple who potentially tried for a long and emotional 14 years to have Baby no 1.

Don't know who she is but pity the kid when he's 21 having a mother old enough to be his granny.

Hope she's sorted out all legal matters for him (will, who will take care of him etc.).

71 is young these days and she appears fairly intelligent 🤣 sufficiently so to take good care of legal arrangements

greenbeansnspinach · 03/11/2023 09:35

Parenting teenagers is an awful lot easier when you’re a bit older and more settled and grounded yourself. It’s easier when you’re in your sixties not to get caught up in all the angst and drama.

Is that universal or Just your experience ? I mean I managed to parent teenagers successfully in my mid 30s and 40s without getting caught up in "the drama"

Im a fit and healthy 55 year old, get lots of exercise and eat healthily, but I don’t have the energy I had in my 30s or even 40s. That’s just a simple fact. I have a 14 year old and I find it exhausting, and he’s not even a difficult teen!

My gt Gran had one at 50 (poor babe died in the Spanish flu at a few months old) and her very last at 52, she lived until he was an adult. She'd started her family at 15. I'm sure that this baby will be OK, there are much worse things in life than being born to wealthy older parents,

Edited

Similarly, one of my great great grandmothers had 21 children. The first at 20 and the last at 50. (1848-78).

Seaglass7 · 04/11/2023 12:09

I’m all for baby names coming back but never thought I’d hear of a Barbara or June coming back anytime soon.

No disrespect to those names, I know ladies of both names and they are lovely, one in her 60s and one in her 80s and those names were of the time. I’d say the same about my name too but obviously won’t post it here.

Mrsjayy · 04/11/2023 12:15

I wonder if they are family names ?

LeonBlack · 04/11/2023 12:35

I don’t know which is worse - Barbara or June?

Seaglass7 · 04/11/2023 12:40

They could be?

Barbara Elizabeth and June Violet. I much prefer their middle names.

DH is only known by his middle name, he hates his first name with a passion but it was a family name so his parents went ahead with it, despite only calling him by his middle name! He hates having to use it on anything official!

Sorry, I’ve derailed slightly 😆

I would imagine so. Either that or they were big fans of Barbara Windsor and the sitcom Terry and June.

Sanguinello · 04/11/2023 13:35

I think they've gone for old lady names but are probably early adopters of names that will become popular in future rather than going with ones that are popular already, like Ava, Grace etc

PastorCarrBonarra · 04/11/2023 13:41

I wondered whether the name June would enjoy a revival following The Handmaid’s Tale but clearly not. I’ve only heard of this one in recent years.

ChristmasQuestions · 04/11/2023 17:51

I don't find Barbara to have a particularly nice sound, either to say or to hear. And no nice nicknames. But they like it so that's what matters.

Elizabeth, June and Violet are all quite nice to my ear.

Excuse me? Wtf? Just WHAT?

I am a massive, massive VCM fan and have in no way at all judged her. In fact, the exact opposite on all the threads about this if you care to read my comments.

The chat had moved on to a discussion of the names they've chosen and I mentioned which I liked more than which I didn't. As in... Chat.

Honestly that's pissed me right off.
