Teenage DD needs a new coat - AAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!

DD13 needs a new coat. She WANTS A BLACK PUFFER type, I've said it needs to be suitable for school, must have a hood. We are on a budget (ish), I've said I'm happy to spend £50 or thereabouts and have seen, with my own eyes, PLENTY of black puffer style jackets that all look that same.

So far we've had - too short (cropped, anyone?) too expensive, too worn (when looking at vinted). Ones I've sent her all look the same as what she likes, but she's said no. She won't go to generic places such as new look or TK Maxx, I've found some on JD sports that would be perfect but she's said she doesn't like them even though they all look the same!!! Took her into sports direct and she stood in the shop, filled with black puffa jackets, and said she didn't like any of them. I'm just about ready to scream.

Vinted is your friend!

loads of DD13’s friends have this or similar from Urban Outfitters. Usually new shopper codes about and reward points too.

H&M has a lovely drawstring waist one for about £40?

Thank you, I've seen that one, is it not a bit short? She's got to walk a mile to school rain or shine!

I got my DD one from sports direct, next do a few too.TK maxx have a lot of puffer styles in the boys section too that might be worth a look? Hate all the cropped clothes for girls.

Sickoffamilydrama · 01/11/2023 19:08

Try Next ( you could always buy a few and do their free returns), M&S, Uniqlo.
I do feel your pain maybe we can set a support group for parents.
CakeBrew or GinWine might get you through this.

Dacadactyl · 01/11/2023 19:09

I'd say to her "the budget is 50 quid and you'll be going cold and wet til you pick one."

GunboatDiplomacy · 01/11/2023 19:09

Try H&M, they've got about 20 black puffers in various infinitesimally different styles within your budget. (Plus everything's 15% off for members in the app at the moment - so well worth signing up for).

hellswelshy · 01/11/2023 19:10

Oh op, I've been there..with twin dd's 😱I have a memory of stomping out of a shop as they drove me to the edge with eye rolling, and general loathing of every coat I suggested. I gave up to be honest. Suggested they look online and ordered a few to try on at home. They are just about out of that phase now at nearly 16...

slopsan · 01/11/2023 19:10

I've had this conversation. I concluded there is no benefit to buying a coat she won't wear. I gave her a budget and she bought a black puffer jacket (that to me looked like the many she had rejected!).
It's not ideal as it is not waterproof, but it's better than nothing.
Image is everything to teens.

Londonscallingme · 01/11/2023 19:11

Can’t she find one herself online? I don’t have a teenage child so maybe that’s a stupid suggestion but can’t you just get her to do it??

GellerYeller · 01/11/2023 19:11

10% off for new customers at urban outfitters online. We have two of those coats, toasty, zip up pickets and a concealed hood I think. We’ve had great coats from Hollister in the sale/Black Friday. Sounds to me, like my kids, she’s particular and has something specific in mind(that may not exist within budget, bitter experience speaking). Sympathies!

This would be my mentality on this too. I can't abide huffing over privelidged choices.

Seems longer on DD but she’s not 5’8” like the model. Main thing is she actually wears it to school or out and about, so I’m happy.

Jewelspun · 01/11/2023 19:15

Plonk her down and tell her she has to choose one online within x amount of time. Until then she has no internet access or tv or what we she likes to do of an evening.

Thank you thank you thank you all - I just told her she isn't allowed out to see her boyfriend until she's chosen one - and lo and behold she's sent me the link within about one minute the the urban outfitters one mentioned above. Swooped and bought. Large glass of wine poured.

We recently had the same over joggers. I know image is important but when you're stood in a shop offering to buy any Nike joggers they want and they say none are ok because of the leg cuff (ALL THE JOGGERS HAD THE SAME)..... 🤬🤬🤬🤬.... Solidarity to other parents of fussy madams.....

Mumaway · 01/11/2023 19:44

IWasFunBeforeMum · 01/11/2023 19:46

Vinted, filter new with tags if she's picky about secondhand
