What’s worth getting? Especially as part of a general shop

The new buffalo sauce flavoured peanuts are yum. Their diet Lilt is good. Their nicer range of beef joints are really good value

Dacadactyl · 01/11/2023 15:37

I get absolutely everything from Aldi. I don't go anywhere else at all.

And to be fair to @Zimunya there are some aldis are better than others. I deliberately go to a specific one because the shopping experience is better.

BIWI · 01/11/2023 15:39

I switched from Sainsbury's to Aldi a while ago now, and I buy most of our shop there. Anything I can't get, I drive round the corner to Sainsbury's.

Sadly our cats won't eat Aldi cat food - bloody snobs! - and I buy Diet Coke at Sainsbury's as it's always on offer/much cheaper. Some more esoteric stuff isn't available at Aldi, e.g. things like harissa paste or less everyday herbs/spices, or specific stuff for baking, e.g. ground almonds or different dried fruits.

Their wine range is really good, and their gins are excellent, as well as being really good value. Although I don't buy flavoured gins that often, this one is lovely - actually nicer than Tanqueray's Sevilla gin.

Some great recommendations, thanks!

Has anyone tried the non-bio washing liquid? Is it as good as persil?

What about the bathroom cleaner spray? My usual favourite of Cillit Bang is super expensive now but I’m so disappointed with the alternatives I’ve tried

The washing non bio stuff is fine and what i use. No idea whether it's as good as persil tho, cos I've never used persil.

And I realise I've told a lie, I don't buy everything in aldi. I specifically get Flash bathroom spray elsewhere because I think the aldi one is crap.

I love all their snacky foods especially for kids! Such a good price.

Rice cakes
Raisins
Cereal bars
Crackers
Porridge/ cereal

I always stock up on Protein yoghurts for my breakfasts/ snacks.

MWNA · 01/11/2023 16:50

Size 7 pull ups.
Frozen garlic bread with cheese.

Nothing. Our local Aldi is a hell-hole, disorganised and shambolic, and filled with screaming children and yelling parents. I know it's cheaper, but Morrisons is not significantly more expensive, and at least I can find what I need there without worrying about witnessing domestic abuse in the midst of the grocery shopping.

Wow, just wow!

carriedaway · 01/11/2023 16:56

their hot cloth cleansers are lovely and last ages

savemyears · 01/11/2023 17:02

Ooh loads of stuff...

The torchon ham is so much nicer than any prepackaged ham I've found in shops.
The split yoghurts are as good as muller.
Cheese
There was a £3.99 Pinot which I loved. It might be £4.19 now and I might have a shitty taste for wine but I always get a bottle if they have it in. The blush one is nice too.
I tend to buy frozen stuff for the kids. The chicken dippers have a higher % of chicken than Birds Eye and taste nicer. Fish fingers are good. They do a lovely frozen chicken burger which has a crunchy outside on it, they are great to have in.
Ice creams are good, especially the knock off little moons.
Bakery section is good, we tend to buy wraps and croissants and they're always fresh.
The knock off millicano coffee is good.

I shop elsewhere for fruit and most veg now unless I know it'll be eaten quickly but can easily do a full shop there. All versions of most things tend to be really decent quality.

Totally agree, I forgot those on my original list but it's great. Just rub over your face and clean off with a warm flannel. I always buy a couple when I see it in stock as they're not always available but they do last for ages.

Cocteautriplet · 01/11/2023 17:08

I’ve started shopping at Aldi recently as there’s a branch right by DD’s nursery. I love their wooden toys and I have stocked up for Christmas. I’m impressed by their Belgian hot chocolate stirrers, their pink clay mask dupe and thier cheese. Not so taken by their Jaffa cakes though, they taste very odd!

HopAPot · 01/11/2023 17:09

Peppers/artichokes etc in oil, half the price of Waitrose.

Rosemary crackers

PinkyDinkyDoodle · 01/11/2023 17:11

Part baked sourdough bread.
Fruit cider.

Most things are equally good between Aldi and Lidl.

TravellingT · 01/11/2023 17:12

Sauces and jarred items, cleaning products, snacks. Their fruit and veg don't last, nothing special in freezer section. Meat is good, especially picnic and snacky bits.

Cookerhood · 01/11/2023 17:22

The Freeman's Bay sauvignon blanc is excellent glugging wine.
The salt crackers (also salt & pepper ones & rosemary ones) are very morish.

Spareus · 01/11/2023 17:31

Breadahead · 01/11/2023 12:53

Patronising much 😂 honestly the thought of you going round MORRISONS thinking you're a cut above is killing me 🤣

Our local Morrisons is way more of a high risk shopping experience than Aldi 😱😂

TC176 · 01/11/2023 17:33

Their chicken jalfrezi and butter chicken curries for 2 are fantastic and cost £3.80. The sauces are rich and delicious, as good as our local takeaway which charges £9.50. We’ve stopped buying the extra special crisps because they are so moreish.

TheBunnyLover · 01/11/2023 17:36

Avocados, salad bags.
I love their 'deli' selection, olives, sun-dried tomatoes.
Their hummus is lovely-I've stopped making my own as I cannot get it as nice.
Cream crackers, tinned tomatoes, great vegan range too.

I go to the other supermarkets for bits to top up with but I've no problem at all with any aldi stuff.

fionaapple · 01/11/2023 17:43

Refrigerated salmon fish cakes (either the plain ones or ones with hollandaise sauce in the middle, grated cheese, tuna pasta bake ready meal for when I cba, stir in tomato and mascarpone sauce jar, mini hash brown waffles, frozen vegan chicken kievs, instant katsu rice pots, Tropicana 'dupe' juice from the fridge. Lots more too x

fionaapple · 01/11/2023 17:44

Jo Malone candle and other special buy beauty dupes have all been great when I manage to get my hands on them as they're very in demand

backtowinter · 01/11/2023 17:45

They do pineapple fizzy sweets that are great

I always get candles. The Hotel range are good

CaveMum · 01/11/2023 17:48

I do the majority of my weekly shop in Aldi. The highlights I’d recommend:

Ballycastle (much cheaper version of Baileys)
Austins (much cheaper version of Pimms)
Garlic pizza dip (bigger, tastier and cheaper than Domino’s)
Any Moser Roth chocolate
Chocolate covered Lebuchken hearts (Christmas range)

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 01/11/2023 17:48

Nothing. Tried it. Didn't like it.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 01/11/2023 17:53

Everything, but off the top of my head, things that are better than the branded version are all the chocolate, especially their fruit and nut bar and their fake twines, mars bars, snickers and milky ways. Nordpack butter, protein mousse, yoghurt and shakes, Langhams dog food trays (well I haven’t tried these personally but my dog seems happy with them!), garlic and cheese pizza breads and DS loves their mango sorbet but unfortunately that seems to be seasonal.

dontforgetme · 01/11/2023 17:59

All of it except the light mayo and the pack of cheap croissants, the pricey pack of 4 croissants are lovely but the cheaper pack of more are seriously nasty!!
