If you had a night in by yourself, what would you make for dinner?

I will be enjoying the silence of the house to myself on Friday. I will not be falling into the lures of Deliveroo.. I am trying to limit my takeaway spending!

What can I make myself as a bit of a treat on a Friday. Considering charcuterie and wine.. but wondered what you'd do to see if there is something more exciting I like the sound of! Open to anything..

Welsh rarebit, with a bag of ready salted crisps. A family sized bag. Preferably ridge cut. Or paprika pringles, probably the whole tube. I can't pretend otherwise....

Maybe an apple, for my health. Ha!

One of those duck and pancake kits from Aldi, they're amazing. And a pack of halloumi sticks.

Peridot1 · 31/10/2023 17:14

Pasta and pesto and some peas and bacon lardons and lots and lots of Parmesan.

I usually take advantage of DH not being here to NOT drink wine so no wine with it.

A decaf tea and a Cornetto after.

I would do a mini beef wellington with potato dauphinois and creamed spinach. All pre prepared.

Imreallytiredandanxioustoday · 31/10/2023 17:22

Crisp sandwich

MelAndTim · 31/10/2023 17:28

Something with crab, king prawns or lobster, posh crackers, Prosecco, chocolate.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 31/10/2023 17:36

Baked Camembert. Every time.

Cheesy crumpets, have to be Warburtons though and only Cornish Cruncher Cheddar will do all nice and bubbling from under the grill. A nice pot of PG Tips and maybe a slice of Battenburg for afters completes my feast. I'm a woman of simple tastes.

This choice will definitely not be to many people's taste, but sandwich spread on crusty white toast...

I just googled Sandwich Spread, that is a blast from the past @bellocchild ! We used to have that as kids in the 70s. Has it changed?

I wouldn’t make dinner at all. I’d buy a packet of walkers salt and vinegar crisps, butter and white bread rolls and make myself a sandwich using those. And watch tv. But that’s because that would be a real treat for me as I cook from scratch every day and always take advantage of a day off.

RenoDakota · 31/10/2023 19:54

This was me last Friday. I had a whole giraffe baton from Sainsbury's, thickly spread with butter, with ham, gouda, cucumber and pickle in.
Best thing I have had for ages.

I love pasta so a mac and cheese or lasagna or bolognaise with huge of amount of cheese and a large wine.

LBOCS2 · 31/10/2023 19:56

Both of these with some fresh baguette. It's my go-to treat dinner (luckily not too frequently as it's quite decadent!).

mamaduckbone · 31/10/2023 20:00

Mushroom risotto with a glass (or 2) of good white wine and a ton of Parmesan. It's what I always make if I'm home alone, which is not very often, since the dcs don't like mushrooms.
Or a picky tea with some really nice bread, olives, cheese etc.

Tessisme · 31/10/2023 20:05

Chunky oven chips and two fried eggs. Not a vegetable in sight😂

sparkedsparkle · 31/10/2023 20:07

Garlic prawns and mushrooms - lightly fried in butter. Delicious and not too unhealthy either!

Redhothoochycoocher · 31/10/2023 20:24

Sort of a night in alone tonight. No DH and children in bed. I'm having falafel wraps.

NancyJoan · 31/10/2023 20:26

DH was away for two weeks in the summer. I ate a variation of hummus and pitta/cheese and bread/parma ham and bread every night. Sometimes with a fig or some grapes. Was lovely.

MrsClatterbuck · 31/10/2023 20:52

A proper cauliflower cheese including browning under the grill. With bacon cabbage and potatoes. Dh hates cauliflower. He also hates liver so that would be my other choice. Liver and bacon with onion gravy and mashed potatoes.
Also some green veg. I have a thing about having something green on my plate.

Snowpaw · 31/10/2023 21:05

Tofu stirfry with some kind of peanutty sauce and noodles, which is something DP would heave at.

I don't think so, but it's hard to find - although Heinz still appear to make it.

ElevenSeven · 31/10/2023 21:50

Prawn pasta, or just prawns in lemon/chilli/garlic butter with crusty bread if I’m feeling fancy.

Mayflower chicken curry and rice if I’m not.

Either option with chilled white wine
