If you had a night in by yourself, what would you make for dinner?

I will be enjoying the silence of the house to myself on Friday. I will not be falling into the lures of Deliveroo.. I am trying to limit my takeaway spending!

What can I make myself as a bit of a treat on a Friday. Considering charcuterie and wine.. but wondered what you'd do to see if there is something more exciting I like the sound of! Open to anything..

Wine and cheese

Nap1983 · 31/10/2023 13:14

My go to alone night is a carbonara (quick 10 min job) and a large glass of wine

CointreauVersial · 31/10/2023 13:15

I usually go for something absolutely no-one else would eat, for example a plate of salad with panfried chicken livers on top (all crispy, lots of olive oil/balsamic.....mmmm). Or a big bowl of Brussels sprouts with loads of butter, black pepper and cottage cheese on top.

Moreoften than not I just can't be bothered to cook when there's no-one else to cater for, so a piece of toast and a glass of wine will do the job.

Either a baked Camembert with a tiger baguette, or creamed mackerel mashed with cheddar and cream on muffins and toasted under the grill .

Doggymummar · 31/10/2023 13:16

Toast and butter

WildFlowerBees · 31/10/2023 13:18

Fresh bread, meats, cheeses, pickles, chutney and a bottle of Mudhouse wine.

Or poached egg with tomato confit on toasted sourdough and burrata,

PrinceHaz · 31/10/2023 13:20

I would go to M and S and either buy the most expensive Jamon iberico they have with a little bottle of dry sherry. If I’d buy an irganic lamb rack and some lovely things to go with it. Or asparagus with eggs and Parmesan on top.

BreatheAndFocus · 31/10/2023 13:22

Sea bass or some nice white fish in a creamy sauce with capers and or Boursin, accompanied by boiled new potatoes with butter and freshly ground black pepper, and plenty of green veg like tender stem broccoli or whatever. I’d accompany it with a nice white wine. For dessert, I’d either buy a slice of chocolate cheese cake or have some fruit like persimmon, mango, papaya, etc.

peachgreen · 31/10/2023 13:23

Crisps and dip OR the most expensive steak I can find with salad and a goat's cheese and caramelised red onion flatbread. And wine.

SeaToSki · 31/10/2023 13:23

I either go simple..omelette, toasted baguette and butter and a salad

Or fish as DH doesnt like it

A large glass of wine is a definite though

shardash · 31/10/2023 13:30

I'd buy a bog-standard supermarket pizza and pimp it up.

Pate on toast with a onion chutney. Followed by salmon, new potatoes, vine ripped tomatoes, spinach with crème fresh. Then maybe a gu lemon cheesecake.

But will you finish the pack of pate, that's the question.

INeedNewShoes · 31/10/2023 13:32

Steak with salad (I'd buy a ribeye steak and a really nice lettuce and just have lettuce with vinaigrette on the side)

or

Spaghetti carbonara with tons of parmesan

MintJulia · 31/10/2023 13:34

I'd have dips, warm wholemeal pitta bread, olives and a glass of frascati.

Or if very cold in winter, spicy veggie soup sprinkled with cheddar, chunks of wholemeal bread and a glass of red.

Much nicer not to cook anything complicated if I am by myself.

I'm on my own tonight and although not feeling my best, I think I will go to Tesco in a bit to get the stuff to do this - thanks!!

Onethingatatime23 · 31/10/2023 13:43

Crisps and wine.

GetWhatYouWant · 31/10/2023 13:46

I live alone now and do cook properly every day, but a treat meal would be a quality fillet steak cooked rare, sauce made with shallots, mushrooms, loads of black pepper, brandy and cream, with home made wedges and asparagus, accompanied by a glass or 2 of picpoul( red gives me a headache these days).

TrailingFig · 31/10/2023 13:48

I wouldn’t cook that’s for sure.

I’d have an ‘opening packets’ type meal or maybe make myself a wrap.

Wine

Fridaysgirl17 · 31/10/2023 13:50

For me I'd have crispy chicken on a baguette with a sauce (Eddie rockets secret sauce it's a mustard based sauce here in Ireland) some lettuce, cheese & coleslaw, probably with salad on the side, it's easy, minimal fuss, delicious & filling & I'd probably have a fizzy drink a diet coke most likely as I don't drink on the norm so I'd have none in 😊

user50and · 31/10/2023 13:50

A cheese board

Olika · 31/10/2023 13:53

Pizza from the scratch

Irritatingbeyondbelief · 31/10/2023 13:54

Either freshly popped popcorn with loads of salted butter or mushrooms on toast with loads of butter and thyme.

Butter seems central somehow…..

DataColour · 31/10/2023 13:56

I buy the really spicy ramen packet noodles from a Chinese grocery in town and close to my work and jazz it up with a boiled egg and lots of veg. Plus wine.

sleepwhenidie · 31/10/2023 13:58

Spaghetti carbonara
or
stir fry a whole pack of raw prawns with ginger, chilli and garlic and lots of butter and have that on toasted ciabatta and a large glass of white wine

baked Camembert and charcuterie sounds good too!
