Just wondering where people went for their honeymoons, I am in need of ideas!

We have been fortunate to travel a lot and I'm trying to decide on a destination for our honeymoon either next year or the following. Preferably long haul but open to all ideas really. I like the idea of French Polynesia but it is a schlep for flying so only an idea at this point.

We have been to places like the Hawaii and Maldives already.. open to all kinds of destinations and trips whether an all inclusive or adventure holiday. We also aren't tied into a time of year as have a destination wedding in 2024 so what we will most likely do is a short break after that and the main honeymoon at some point in 2025.

Thanks in advance 😊

Koh Samui in Thailand and it was perfection. (Early October)

We went to the Riviera Maya in Mexico. It was in the covid years so we went AI as a bit of security, but rented a car and stayed overnight on longer trips. It was beautiful and there was a lot to do. Can't wait to go back next year!

I'd say Kenya - go on safari, then finish up at the coast. You don't need jabs, the food is good, it's safe, the flight's not too far, only 2 hour time difference, great weather all year round but not insanely hot, and there's loads to do together.

Second option I'd say Vietnam, just avoid rainy season.

Backpacking Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. Not student budget backpacking but blow-the-budget backpacking. It was fabulous!!

We also did a minimoon in the UK staying Airbnb in a Gypsy caravan for 3 nights.

We went to Costa Rica, with a couple of nights in Miami on the way there. It was amazing!

AnnaMagnani · 31/10/2023 13:08

What do you like doing?

We like food, art galleries, churches and museums. We were going in August, couldn't think of anywhere we wanted to go more than Italy so spent our honeymoon melting in Emilia-Romagna.

We did a train trip from Chicago to Memphis to New Orleans, which is one train. It was fantastic but I'd thoroughly recommend Vietnam. Stunningly beautiful country.

Hong Kong and Bali, HK fantastic Bali, beautiful but on reflection MEH, to much pool, not enough outside of the compound.

We were planning on TTC soon after we got married so we ruled out a lot of places due to the Zika risk. After lots of quotes, we ended up in Mauritius for 10days and had a wonderful time. We alternated days on the beach / by the pool with day trips around the island. It might be a bit small if you want longer than 10days though.

StillWantingADog · 31/10/2023 13:12

We did a safari in Kenya (amazing) then a week in Zanzibar. Was wonderful.

First husband and I drove the length of California. Flew in to San Fransisco, picked up the hire car and drove down the Pacific Highway 1 stopping at various places like Monterey (for the incredible aquarium),The Big Sur, Morro Bay, Santa Barbara, LA etc and flying back out of San Diego. I'd do it again with this one as well as a holiday!

Garden Route in South Africa. Was amazing!

Still waiting for one...

We did New England in the fall 🍂

Hired a car and did Boston, Maine, New Hampshire & Rhode Island. Stayed in an array of different places from old style B & Bs with crackling log fires and homemade pancakes to modern luxury hotel in Boston.

The seafood, if you like it, was unreal.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 31/10/2023 13:16

Venice then home on the orient express.

If you do this, don't do the Paris to UK leg, it sucks and ruins the luxury. Get off in Paris and fly/eurostar home.

Nemareus · 31/10/2023 13:17

Spain basque region- sunlit days and nights with beautiful scenery.

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 31/10/2023 13:18

We went to Madeira, not too far away and loads to do. We stayed on a banana plantation in a clamping tent for a few days, a week in Funchal in an air bnb apartment with a balcony overlooking the ocean, and finished with three nights in the Cliff Bay hotel. You can really be as active or as relaxing as you want. I can highly recommend it.

We went to NZ. Hired a campervan and went the "wrong way" so it was much cheaper.

TheBirdintheCave · 31/10/2023 13:19

We did a two week tour of Japan. It was utterly spectacular and we can't wait to go back again.

DappledThings · 31/10/2023 13:29

Sri Lanka. Toured round for 3 weeks. Saw some amazing places. And 2 days at the test match at Galle. Delayed it for 5 months after the wedding so we could be there for the test.

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 31/10/2023 13:36

Seattle up to Alaska and back down to Vancouver

PicturesOfLily · 31/10/2023 13:44

We also went to Sri Lanka. Had a week’s tour with a private driver where we visited national parks, did a couple of safaris, visited temples etc then had 5 days in a lovely hotel at the beach. It was amazing and we’d love to go back when dds are bigger!

girlmeetsboy · 31/10/2023 13:45
