Random people contacting me on WhatsApp to ask if I am looking for a job

Is this happening to anyone else? I know it’s a scam but I can’t see how they profit from it.

I had a few and always block and delete. No idea how they scam people though,

If you seem interested (and a bit dim) you’ll be asked for a processing fee or similar.

I’ve had a few of these - I’ve ignored and haven’t had any follow ups. IME real recruiters come via old colleagues or occasionally via LinkedIn messages. I would only trust a personal contact.

I got an invitation to a wedding for two complete strangers! I guess the scam would be the wedding list (or there’s someone out there with a similar number who is very hurt they’ve been left out)

Could be they want you to receive money into your bank account and pay it on. When the shit hits the fan you're the one on the hook for money laundering.

Scammer needs to work on their numbers though, you could go part-time at 300 per hour and only work 5 hours a week... then you're at the minimum of a full-time role 🙄

It’s a bit of an arse because our old nanny has asked me to give a reference to a few recruitment agencies. So when someone contacts me, I think they must have mistaken me for her at first.

My 14 year old is getting these as well. I think she might be better off doing her GCSEs before taking up these generous and very genuine offers...

Ive had a few. The country code always seems to be India for me. I told them to f off and blocked.

Yes I get them. I report, block and delete.

I’ve had a bunch of these. I’m a housewife. No recruiter has my details, plus no recruiter sends text messages like this, if it was real they call and chat.

It’s just a scam.

Eaxctly. AFTER you've registered with them and told them what line of work you're looking for.

So today someone on this number rang me to ask if I was looking for a job. I’ve blocked it, obviously, but this is going to get old very quickly.

My advice is do not answer any call where you do not know who it is. If you answer, the scammers know the number is active and they try even harder. If it is anyone genuine, they'll leave a message.

I get them. Use for the delete function.

Problem is, I was expecting a call from someone at a company today. It took a few goes to understand what the guy wanted, I think he’s been redirected from another country (probably because no one picks up random calls from that country).

Yes but if someone is genuine they will call, not WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is full of scams lately, it's a huge pain.

I guess they get numbers by hacking someone and then going into their groups. I only started getting the scam stuff since I joined groups.
