Is this happening to anyone else? I know it’s a scam but I can’t see how they profit from it.

Do they have these on LinkedIn as well? I keep getting random messages a bit like this through LinkedIn and my email account and I’m not sure how genuine they are.

Ha, yes, I've had a couple of these recently. Both apparently v. high paid wfh jobs but no further details.

The ones I've had immediately asked for scans of my passport and bank statements to prove residency, right to work and that I'm over 21/25. Not really sure what they can do with that info but I obviously immediately blocked.

It's annoying because I am actually actively looking for a new job right now and have asked recruiters to use WhatsApp or email initially as I'm currently abroad, but it's pretty easy to spot the scam messages vs legit!

StillWantingADog · 29/11/2023 18:36

I’m a recruiter. I’d never WhatsApp. I’d email or contact via linked in or call (in that order).

I have had similar and just blocked. It’s not necessarily a scam but unprofessional.

StillWantingADog · 29/11/2023 18:40

Btw never answer anything that doesn’t include your name. A genuine recruiter will know your name.
I block these but I get random calls from people posing to be from EE/Vodafone/02, my first question is “who are you hoping to speak to?”. If they don’t know my name then I hang up and block.

Randstad are actually a very big recruitment company, but that job advert stinks. For a start, she's a Talent Acquisition what? and earning £ 150 for an hour's work? nah. And whadda you need a workbench for?

Lemevoir · 29/11/2023 18:50

I've had a couple of these. Most recently the scammers used the name of an actual small business. I found the real company on Google and emailed them (didn't phone the scammers number or reply to the WhatsApp). The real company got back to me pretty much immediately to say that it isn't them sending out the messages; they'd had reports before that scammers were using their business name and that they'd report this one.

And whadda you need a workbench for?

Jargon for some sort of set of software tools.

Edited

The ones I got used real agency names - Adecco Group and 'Rangstad' (yes, spelled like that!). It's not hard to look up agency names tho.

Oh right.

I started getting loads of these, I just blocked, but then someone recommended signing up to the telephone preference service to stop them.

I did that a couple of weeks ago and it seems to have worked.
