Can you recommend a Spanish city to explore ....

.... end Jan/early Feb. I'm thinking Malaga, not sure why. Been to Barcelona, DH hasn't though.

We usually spend a week or so in the sun in Tenerife but prices have got ridiculous. So thought we'd do a city break instead. I know it won't be very warm on the mainland.

In January/early Feb I would definitely go south- the weather in Seville would probably the most reliable, but Valencia should be good too and probably Barcelona. Madrid will be quite cold and potentially rainy and Bilbao and San Sebastian will pretty much definitely be coldish and wet!

Oganesson118 · 30/10/2023 11:30

Granada gets my vote

Totallymessed · 30/10/2023 11:34

Oh, and Granada will also be quite cold- it's up near the Sierra Nevada (=snowy mountains, so that might give you a clue about the temperature).

All of the cities mentioned are amazing to visit though, so depends on how important it is to have some good weather.

Betty36 · 30/10/2023 11:35

I've never been to Seville, but Malaga and Valencia are nice. But I visited Malaga in the summer.

ManAboutTown · 30/10/2023 11:37

I'm going to put in a word for Madrid - three brilliant art galleries (Prado, Reina Sophia and Thyssen-Bornemisza), a fabulous royal palace and cathedral to visit, restaurants galore and it's open all night more or less.

Plus if hubby likes football either Real Madrid or Atletico will be playing. Ive been to the Bernabeu and its quite the experience

Valencia is lovely. I've never been to Seville but hear it's fabulous and would really like to go!

Notalldogs23 · 30/10/2023 11:50

Another for Seville - it's lovely, walkable and should be sunny.

tanstaafl · 30/10/2023 11:50

Another vote for Seville.
Theres good trains between Seville, Malaga and Cordoba if you want to stay as south as possible.

Granada. There's nothing quite like the Alhambra!

FrenchandSaunders · 30/10/2023 13:41

Fab thanks all. I'll do some research.
Interesting about the cruise as well, being cheaper!

Seville. My favourite city. It was low 20's when we went once at New Year.
We're off to Valencia end of Jan.

cherrypied · 30/10/2023 14:06

I've been to Barcelona,
Malaga, Granada and Valencia. Valencia is the one I feel I need to explore more. I just did a day in a cruise.

Ibiza Town is my favourite though

PinkRoses1245 · 30/10/2023 14:17

We went to Malaga in February, it was quite mild and sunny. Lots to see and amazing food!

Justcannot · 30/10/2023 14:19

Valencia is my favourite city in the world but end of Jan/ beginning of Feb is risky; it can be really cold, really wet and spanish apartments aren't built for it so feel cold and damp even inside.

TotalOverhaul · 30/10/2023 14:26

Granada is spectacular.

Or save the air fare and visit Spanish City in Whitley Bay, Northumberland!

Probably best rec 😉

Fawbs89 · 30/10/2023 14:31

Palma is beautiful and really cheap to get to. Lots to see!

fetchacloth · 30/10/2023 14:37

Another vote for Valencia. Lots of history to explore and a good town centre.
Nice restaurants as well I recall. 👌

oldwhyno · 30/10/2023 14:50

Valencia and Seville here too, or possibly Madrid (never been). If you've got longer than 2/3 days you could do Valencia and Madrid. Fly into one, and out of the other, and have a great high speed rail journey between the two.

FrenchandSaunders · 06/11/2023 12:32

I’ve gone for Malaga … £12.99 each way 😳🙌

The trains look fab so we will explore other cities whilst we are there (6 nights).
