Would you leave sweet outside for trick or treaters?

I’m not going to be home on Tuesday night as I will be doing spooky family time with my sister so I was wondering whether to leave sweets outside. My main concern is the first trick or treaters could come along and steal all the sweets and I’d never know. I feel too rude not to do something though as I’ll have my lights and decs up. To anyone not at home on Tuesday, what will you do?

Yep they’ll all get knicked. I wouldn’t bother.

PlantDoctor · 30/10/2023 00:52

Did it once. Got nicked within minutes!

Tittyfilarious81 · 30/10/2023 00:55

Nope some kid always decides to take the whole lot

Turn the lights off if you’re not in. Everyone recognises that’s the indicator of whether you’re participating or not.

lavenderlou · 30/10/2023 01:00

I do because my DC love putting the decorations out so our house looks ready for trick or treaters but then there's nobody home when I take them out trick or treating. Unfortunately they do disappear quite swiftly. I left a note last time saying please just take one but I'm sure it was ignored.

purpleme12 · 30/10/2023 01:01

Yes of course I put them out.
I guess it's a risk you take about them going.
Hopefully not but then I like Halloween so I would always put sweeties out if I'm not in

justanothermanicmonday1 · 30/10/2023 01:05

Why don't you make up a couple of sweet bags and hand them to your neighbours who have kids tomorrow at some point? Just chap their door and explain you have Halloween plans and didn't want to be rude!

TheBeesKnee · 30/10/2023 01:07

I would not bother and I'd turn the lights off! They will be taken swiftly by some bigger kids.

purpleme12 · 30/10/2023 01:08

Half the fun is going round the houses on the night!
It's fun whether the sweeties are left outside or you knock on the door!

purpleme12 · 30/10/2023 01:10

When we go trick or treating and there's sweeties left outside, most have some left for us

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/10/2023 01:13

Be gone in 60 seconds round where I live 😆

ScremeEggs · 30/10/2023 01:34

@vodkaredbullgirl same 😂

DappledThings · 30/10/2023 07:13

No, why would you bother? It's not compulsory and if you're not there to hand them out it makes no sense.

Pipistrellus · 30/10/2023 07:16

Just turn your lights off

dontforgetme · 30/10/2023 07:17

Yep be gone in a flash round by me! By teenagers.

YourNameGoesHere · 30/10/2023 07:20

Turn your lights off and honestly don't bother with the sweets.

Around here the sweets and the bowl would be gone before you even made it out of the road.

Bestbigbirthday · 30/10/2023 07:23

I’m planning to leave them outside - they might get taken by one child, they might not! (I don’t think so, parents go out with their kids around here and that sort of thing wouldn’t be okay by the parent!) But we’re going to be ringing on other people’s doorbells so it feels only fair!

margotrose · 30/10/2023 07:23

No - they'd get pinched in seconds.

FingerLickingGod · 30/10/2023 07:25

We leave them out every year and they don’t all get pinched in one go.

Mumdiva99 · 30/10/2023 07:28

We leave a bowl when we go out. We also come across lots of bowls. We take one each. (Some kid might spoil it but hopefully more will have joy first).

Here too, I don't bother I just assume some houses are decorated but the owners out themselves if no answer

Whiskeypowers · 30/10/2023 07:31

I have a ring video doorbell and intend to switch the microphone on as any child thieving teenager approaches. I’m going to play a voice recording of something suitably halloween for kids or if it’s the thieving teens tell them to get out of dodge before I tell their parents who are my friends that they have a secret vape habit. Should be quite amusing.

we got back for trick or treating last year and someone had kicked all the pumpkins my kids had carved to smithereens. I’d had the ring doorbell then I have plastered their mugshots on the local Facebook mum group. fuckers

ABCXYZ17 · 30/10/2023 07:33

Plenty of houses round me do this, yes some do get taken all at once and some get thrown down the street but not all. It’s hit and miss if a group of older kids pass by and decide to mess around. If you do it be prepared for that to happen and accept that it could. If you think it would upset you if this happens then don’t do it.

duchiebun · 30/10/2023 07:36

I’ve left some out before & have experienced similar trick & treating & the dc just take one.

PonteMinchi · 30/10/2023 07:38

Yes, we always leave out sweets if we are trick or treating.
