What colours are inside your house?

Same colour throughout, different in each room, neutrals or colourful?

I would be happy with the same off white throughout but DP will rebel against this as boring. But he also does not like anything darker than cream, light grey, light beige, so while we have different colours, they are all pretty bland..

I don't like white and don't do neutrals either, so I have a colourful house.
None of my ceilings are white, nor the paintwork.
It's an old house, so I can get away with more than in a modern property, I think.
I have stained glass panels and screens on the windows and coloured glass lamps, so even the light is coloured!

A sort of sky/slate blue hallway and stairs, with orange curtains and lights,
dark blue inner landing with scarlet curtains, rug and accents,

wine coloured “library”
dark green and terracotta sitting room (though I fancy painting it black),
DH's den is yellow
and we have a green and yellow kitchen.

The bedrooms all need redecorating.
I plan a cream and black bedroom in the current apple green room
redo the turquoise green room, more or less the same
and change the blue room to wine.
There is also the former upstairs storeroom, which goes up into the roof, and this is all done in natural pine tongue and grooving. I am contemplating painting it all but can't decide on a colour, also it would be a huge undertaking to move all my dolls houses…
There is a small dressing room in terracotta and green.
The conservatory is a sort of raspberry pink and the boiler room will one day become a utility room, which will have to be painted cream, possibly one of those light reflecting paints, as it's quite dark.

White walls, greige furniture and carpets. Lots of plants.

Stresa22 · 30/10/2023 09:24

Warm white walls
Oak floors
Furniture, lamps, artwork with greens, blues, gold, and dark orange
All those colours in a Welsh blanket thrown over the back of the sofa

Downstairs which is fairly open plan the walls are the same colour. Extension has closed brick, loo has funky wallpaper (what a cliché)! The living room has the alcoves either side of the fireplace green to match sofa. Upstairs the bedrooms are different - mine a pale pink, daughter's yellow, guest room has wallpaper.
I have lots of paintings which add a lot of character but look good on white.

Wolvesart · 30/10/2023 09:31

Terracotta in the sitting room, blues in most other rooms (quite subtle ones) a very pale green that’s basically an off white in the kitchen. I’m thinking of going kinda clotted cream in blue and green areas next time.

Oneblindmouse · 30/10/2023 09:34

No wallpaper. All the walls were painted off white first. The kitchen has one red wall and a red/white window blind.
The living room and bedroom have one blue wall each. The living room floor has large marbled cream Italian tiles with brown/red/orange accessories, curtains etc. The vestibule and kitchen have wood effect Karndean flooring. The bedroom has a blue carpet and curtains. The bathroom has dark grey ceramic floor tiles and light grey ceramic wall tiles. White bathroom suite.
All ceilings and woodwork are painted white.
My house has a total of four rooms with a small vestibule.

My house is a riot of colour. If I had a style I'd be a maximalist. My living room is navy pink and green. My kitchen is hot pink and turquoise and decorated in a day of the dead Halloweeny vibe. My bedroom is a really deep plum with antique furniture and a big brass whore bed. I just love colour and unusual patterns and combinations. My DH likes Magnolia and white 😂

BoobyDazzler · 30/10/2023 09:51

Lots of different colours - kitchen, hall stairs and landing, our bedroom and bathrooms are F&B School House White, back room is an emerald green that I can’t remember the name of, front room is F&B India Yellow, DD’s room is F&B Calamine and DS’s has some geometric wallpaper and really needs re-doing.

IHeartGeneHunt · 30/10/2023 10:00

All different!
Hallway is yellow and orange, bathroom is green and a different yellow with peach bits, bedroom is another green with gold and pink wallpaper, and the living room is a dark pink and pale gold with sage green bits. (Well it will be when it's finished!!)
Kitchen is currently apricot but I'm changing it for something brighter when I decide what.

BrieAndChilli · 30/10/2023 10:05

each room different in our house

lounge has 1 dark green wall with a biscuity beige on the other 3 walls.
Study is yellow and grey
conservatory is grey but has red sofa etc
bedroom is teal and kids rooms are also bright colours.

Aquestioningmind · 30/10/2023 10:11

Walls all white as it goes with anything (and unlike beige and magnolia it doesn’t ’absorb light’ and make the room darker).

Wooden floors everywhere (minus bathrooms- light blue tiles, and kitchen/utility - dark brown tiles).

Sofas/cushions/bed covers all blue or yellow or gold. A few greens and yellows. Curtains match the bedspreads or sofas (I.e light gold sofas, blue rugs, light gold curtains in the drawing room).

IMO best to use white on walls and then neutral carpets/wooden floors etc and use the furniture/decorations/rugs to make the colour. You can always sell rugs you don’t like etc

I am in the process of having everything same off white with white woodwork. We are decorating in stages and will use the same color throughout eventually. It took weeks and 30+ tester pots to find the right light beige 😅

What did you choose in the end?
Hoping to get the benefit of all your research!

OldTinHat · 30/10/2023 10:17

Everywhere is painted white but I have a 'feature wall' in the master bedroom and the kitchen.

Sharontheodopolodous · 30/10/2023 10:46

My house is green, grey and blues
God knows why-we just seemed to fall into that colour pallet
Anything was better than the leaf wallpaper that looked like a babies head crowning when we first moved in and the 'new york!New York!' paper in the kitchen

RedCoatSearch · 30/10/2023 11:01

We have loads of colour. It's an old house & has character.
We have all farrow & ball paints apart from 1 wall which is another heritage brand.
In no particular order throughout the house we have hot pink (bubblegum pink), string, dimity, white house, calamine, moles breath, dix, otto blue, coral , strong white & studio green
Some of those colours are on the walls & some on painted furniture.
We also have 6 sofas & 3 velvet - teal, grey & blue & 3 fabric - 2 stone colour & q cream floral. They're not all in the same room!
We adore colour!

TheDandyLion · 30/10/2023 11:03

The entire house is basic trade paint brilliant white becasue we're in rented. Which is fine by me because it makes it easy to put right when we leave. However all of our furniture and curtians are bright saturated mis match of every colour and we have hippy wall hangings to try and break up the blank space. Also softens the noise and makes it less echoy in the clinical box feel.

CobwebsAndCauldrons · 30/10/2023 11:05

Different colours but all similar in tone and depth.

e.g. F&B Light Blue, Shaded White, Joa's White, Bone etc.

riotlady · 30/10/2023 11:10

Lots of colours! Blue, green, yellow, lavender, grey

ThreeRingCircus · 30/10/2023 11:39

Every room is different and there's quite a bit of colour. In general I prefer bold colour on walls as I think it adds character. Some rooms are neutral but I tend to shy away from anything grey or white, I prefer biscuity colours and creams for neutrals.

Living room is a very pale pink.
Hallway is cream.
Kitchen is cream.
Dining room is dark red.
Downstairs bathroom is a dark teal on all the walls and the ceiling.
Master bedroom is dark blue, almost navy.
DD1s bedroom is pink.
DD2s bedroom is green.
Upstairs bathroom is an ochre yellow colour.

One of the best things I did was to not shy away from colour and to paint every wall rather than having a feature wall. It made such a difference.

nokidshere · 30/10/2023 11:47

Apart from the living room and dining room which each have a yellow wall everything is magnolia with white woodwork. We are getting on a bit now and are seriously over decorating. Over the years we have had a ton of various colours from white, to navy, to orange, to green and everything in between. Now everything is pale and we add the colour through accessories.

Pumpkintastic · 30/10/2023 12:23

Mostly greens and yellows but we have a red bedroom too

Ladybird69 · 30/10/2023 12:28

Came on here to cheekily pinch a few ideas
@DilemmaDelilah youre living room sounds just what I want would you mind sharing a photo and telling me what paint you used please 💐

DilemmaDelilah · 30/10/2023 13:17

@Ladybird69 all done on a budget. We don't have a very big house and we are all electric, hence the ugly storage heater. The paint was just a Wilko own brand I think. The pictures are of my reading corner at the back and the equivalent corner at the front of the living room. We have 3 different sizes Chinese flower paintings in gold frames, and at the front I have 2 tiny flower paintings in gold frames my daughters gave me for Mothers' Day year ago. I'm throwing in the photo of my cat for free 😁

Hi @DilemmaDelilah thanks so much for the pics. lol your cat is a real cutie bless. That’s great, you’ve got a great eye! Blue can be a bit cold and one tonal but picked up with the rich raspberry it looks lovely and cosy. I was going to go for black metals ie curtain poles pic frames etc but again the gold is a much warmer colour and not so harsh. I’ve got my eye on a light tan coloured sofa , I think it will tie in nicely. I hope you don’t mind me copying you but you’ve got such good taste. Thanks 🙏

wellthatwentwelldinnit · 30/10/2023 14:57

Colour! One red room, orange, green, lilac and deep blue. Love colour, white is so cold!
