Teenagers clothes still stinking like sweat when ironed 🤢

40 degree wash

And they come out smelling nice. Until I run an iron over the pits and then they stink of sweat.

Same with school shirts

Do I have to wash all their clothes at 60?!

Sun dry them when possible.

Use the little balls from fairy - they work. So does disinfectant in the machine.

Octavia64 · 29/10/2023 21:47

Dettol do an antibacterial laundry cleanser.

Works well.

dementedpixie · 29/10/2023 21:51

Try Dr Beckmann spray for removing underarm stains/antiperspirant before washing the clothes. I order a multipack from amazon usually

In England? In October? 😂

I do like a line dry but we are a large household and in winter it's just not really possible most of the time sadly.

You can also splash neat zoflora or equivalent onto the armpit area before washing - or train your son to spray with diluted zoflora in a spray bottle as he puts them into the wash!

Dipsomaniax · 29/10/2023 21:53

Napisan! Non bio anti bacterial stuff

LittleGlowingOblong · 29/10/2023 21:54

Are you washing them in bio?

Maybe get the teenagers to use more anti-perspirant deodorant?

Delphigirl · 29/10/2023 21:54

Vanish also works.

Aydel · 29/10/2023 21:55

You need to wash in big box powder - the pods don’t get rid of the smell. Or use Halo sports wash for the really stinky stuff.

Pharos · 29/10/2023 21:55

I’ve rescued several scuzzy armpit teen t-shirts using a couple of methods - make a paste with carb of soda and water, rub it into the affected areas, leave for a few hours then wash. Another option is to spray with white vinegar, leave for 30 mins then wash. It may take a couple of treatments to really shift it but after treating it, a quick spray of white vinegar before every wash should do the trick

I was looking at this in HB recently. I'll try it. Thanks

After you wash in machine, if it smells in those parts, run the underarm under the tap with some soap.

MossGrowsFat · 29/10/2023 21:55

Don't iron?

Emanresu9 · 29/10/2023 21:56

A splash of white vinegar in the softener compartment sorts this out.

WithASpider · 29/10/2023 21:56

Bio powder - not liquid, with Dettol laundry cleanser instead of softener and once a month run them through a wash with white vinegar.

I'm on my 3rd stinky teen.

😑

Dextybooboo · 29/10/2023 21:57

Detmold laundry cleanser perfect for this.

SavBlancTonight · 29/10/2023 21:58

We put a large heaped.spoon of.bicarb in the machine when washing sweaty clothes. Helps them last longer.

Sandalholidays12 · 29/10/2023 21:59

You need to soak the shirts and rub under the arms. Wash with powder on 60 only half fill the load on a long cycle.

Zzizzisnotzeproblem · 29/10/2023 21:59

Vinegar for a bit before washing.

scrunchmum · 29/10/2023 21:59

Check the dose. In hard water areas you usually need 2 pods not just 1, or use powder instead of pods to dose correctly (it's surprising how much the box tells you to use)

Possibly also use bio instead of non bio as it tends to clean better

GertrudeKerfuffle · 29/10/2023 22:00

My method is to turn the garment inside out and blast the armpit area with boiling water before putting in the wash as normal (30 degrees, ecover non bio). I've tried all the vinegar, bicarb and various other options but this has worked best for me.

TealTeaTowel · 29/10/2023 22:02

Vinegar on the armpit areas on shirts before washing gets rid of any sweat smell.

If smell is really bad, be generous with the vinegar then leave to soak with some warm water (about half an hour) before machine washing.

mrsmacmc · 29/10/2023 22:04

Bio powder
Napisan
Spray the areas with vodka before washing

Yes this works!
