Fireplaces and logburners - have you got yours lighted yet?

I'm in West Yorkshire where it's still quite mild for late October. However, apart from today, it's been miserable, wet and foggy since Thursday, making a nice fire quite inviting nonetheless. I wish I had one.

Pictures appreciated, especially with cats and dogs monopolising the hearthrug.

I'll go first then.

Northern Scotland. Wet and windy all day (yellow weather warning) so required
a fire!

Not yet but we have had the heating on a few times. We’re in Hertfordshire

OP, appreciate that you are not filling your home and the environment with pollution.

West Yorkshire too, ours has been lit a few evenings.

ApolloandDaphne · 29/10/2023 18:04

We have had ours on quite a lot. The dog isn't fond of it though.

Too mild.

We have a lifetime supply of kindling in the garage after having our roof redone this summer, so I'd like to get the logburner on just so I can get to my car without falling over sticks.

longtompot · 29/10/2023 18:12

We have, for a few weeks now. Not loading it up too much so it's a bit of warmth on these damp days

TheTecknician · 29/10/2023 18:12

I've never known of a dog or cat that doesn't like a fire. I suppose fur quality and quantity might be important.

I am green with envy to whoever has a log burner/ fireplaces!
I was born and brought up in London but now live somewhere pretty hot!
Warm fleecy jammies, fluffy socks and sitting in front of a log burner are over!
Love seeing these photos. Very bitter sweet for me 🥺

AnnaMagnani · 29/10/2023 18:36

Honestly I'd rather I lived in a house that was warm enough without the logburner.

It's a faff, you need to store all the fuel so tripping over it in the garage, your basket has always run out when it's raining and worst of all it sets off my asthma.

Malariahilaria · 29/10/2023 18:37

How are you people getting your gorgeous pets to pose so nicely? I have a woodburner and a fire but the animals are not playing ball Hmm

pilates · 29/10/2023 18:46

Yes all weekend - love it!

lobsterkiller · 29/10/2023 18:48

I love it, but lugging wood is a bugger.

We had it on for a few hours yesterday for the first time as DH is ill but he fell asleep on the sofa and it went out while I was running the DC around various clubs. I doubt we will have it on again until end of Nov. South east so it's still pretty mild, if not quite wet.

MotherOfCatBoy · 29/10/2023 18:51

Yup, but conflicted because of pollution. Guilty pleasure. Trying to minimise to the weekends only, particularly as it’s an open fire (we also have a log burner in the kitchen but don’t use it as much because the oven is already warm).

SiblingFights · 29/10/2023 18:51

Silly cat trying to get as close as possible.

Our house was built with oil fired heating and an open fire, as was everyone on our side of the village. The cost of putting gas in is extortionate, and a neighbour had their oil tank contents stolen, so we are using up the last of the coal from last year along with the wood felled from our neighbours garden two years ago.

We've had ours on most evenings for the last week.

Couldn't do without it now.

bellac11 · 29/10/2023 18:54

Since August, Im cold all the time these days. Love the thing

pilates · 29/10/2023 18:57

@SiblingFights I’m surprised your cat doesn’t burn itself
@MrsFinkelstein I thing we have the same log burner and wood mantle piece 😀

Whatsgoingon12345 · 29/10/2023 18:57

How do you all keep them so clean?! Mine doesn’t seem to have flames like you all do, just sort of flames a bit then glows.

HappiestSleeping · 29/10/2023 19:00

Lit ours for the first time today. It is now too hot, so letting it burn out. Dog on my lap.
