What madness is this (biscuit related)

Sprogonthetyne · 29/10/2023 10:04

DH of many years, who I previously believed was an entirely sensible person, has today described chocolate digestives as have chocolate on the bottom & writing on top. To me this is madness, and the chocolate is clearly on the top.

Who is eating their biscuits upside-down?

OP posts:

You put chocolate digestives in your mouth with the chocolate side down so it's in contact with your tongue, so your husband is sort of right.

SuitYouSir · 29/10/2023 10:07

Chocolate is on top! Do people also eat toast with the topping side down? I agree with you, it’s madness.

OwlBasket · 29/10/2023 10:09

Comparing a chocolate digestive with a plan digestive the chocolate layer is clearly added to the bottom of the biscuit.

I eat them upside down, as in with the chocolate on top.

IMHO the question is: does adding a layer of chocolate to the bottom of a biscuit result in the bottom becoming the defacto top. (Yes)

TheDandyLion · 29/10/2023 10:13

I want to taste the chocolate so chocolate on the bottom.

The biscuits do have chocolate put on the bottom, but this video says they are flipped over for this, then flipped back again. The caramel goes on top for the caramel ones so it's logical that the chocolate is also on top...

@Hfuhruhurr I watched the video. They are clearly baked with the writing on the top side. So that’s the top. Accounts for the side that the topping is added to looking like the underside of biscuits does.

I don’t think we disagree though. Adding the topping makes the bottom the defacto top

interested if anyone eats plain digestives writing side down!

Papergirl1968 · 29/10/2023 10:26

Neither. Mine go sideways, dunked into a mug of coffee and then are transferred straight to mouth before they fall off into said coffee. Plain chocolate digestives are the perfect dunkers!

Go in sideways? As in vertical!?

Says who? Confused

Papergirl1968 · 29/10/2023 10:31

Yes @Blarn - how can you dunk otherwise?!
I rarely eat biscuits without dunking unless they're the big cookie ones. Digestives were made for dunking.

Onthelongroad · 29/10/2023 10:32

Your DH is insane. You should LtB before this escalates - next he’ll be suggesting that custard creams are inside out.

I don't!

justforthisnow · 29/10/2023 10:34

Chocolate is on the top. I'm fairly sure it's written into some law somewhere.

Notellinganyone · 29/10/2023 10:35

@FatOaf - I always eat them chocolate side up!

therealcookiemonster · 29/10/2023 10:35

maybe that's how they eat them in Australia?

Blarn · 29/10/2023 10:36

But you must then turn it round to take a bite. So the chocolate will then be on the top or the bottom. Otherwise your method of eating biscuits is, well, wrong!

shardash · 29/10/2023 10:38

I don't care which way up they are, chocolate is involved and that's good enough for me.

Beaverbridge · 29/10/2023 10:38

Just asked OH, his reply, chocolate at top of course
Are you mad!?.

xogossipgirlxo · 29/10/2023 10:39

What? LTB!

Fahbeep · 29/10/2023 10:41

There was a case about this in the ECJ. Whether you eat it up or down has VAT consequences (whether it's luxury or not).

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 29/10/2023 10:41

What!? I don't!

It's irrelevant which way up the biscuit is when the chocolate is put on! If you want to see which way up they go, just put 'chocolate digestive' into google images. Or look at the picture on the packet! If you want to eat your digestive upside down because you're a loon you believe it tastes better, go ahead. Do you also eat cheesecake upside down because the top is the best bit?

Anyway, your dh is bonkers, OP!

Mumaway · 29/10/2023 10:42

This apparently is a developmental stage for children. Up to age 2/3 they put the biscuits in choc down, then turn them THE RIGHT WAY UP going forward. I think your DH may just be a toddler...

🤣🤣🤣

Vitriolinsanity · 29/10/2023 10:44

If they make it to a plate (so rare there's not even a simile for the rareness) then chocolate on top.

But it's evident from looking at a naked Digestive that when chocolate is added it goes on the bottom.

Plain chocolate only.

TheShellBeach · 29/10/2023 10:44

My DH wants you to ask your DH if he believes that the same thing applies to Jaffa Cakes.
