What are you all planning to do with your gift of an extra hour?!

Are you a fan of the twice yearly clock changes or should we do away with them altogether?

Ffs! I'm working a night shift. Will be an extra hour for nothing 😓

Tumbleweed101 · 28/10/2023 08:47

We are having a Halloween Party so will likely be using it to tidy up!

I don’t like clocks going back, it makes the late finishes at work even more tiring and my body clock never really catches up. I dislike the darker evenings where you get home in the dark so can’t do anything in the garden until the weekend where you hope it isn’t raining.

BitofaStramash · 28/10/2023 08:57

Whilst I don't like the dark nights it's completely essential for those in Scotland otherwise it would be dark until mid morning.

DustyLee123 · 28/10/2023 08:58

There will be no extra hour for me, the dog will still want to go to bed and get up at the usual time !

Toddlerteaplease · 28/10/2023 09:04

I'm on nights tonight. 😫

BrimfulOfMash · 28/10/2023 09:09

I hate the dark evenings, so brutal when the clocks go back.

I would love to stay on BST. Or even BST+1. Didn’t we do that one year for some reason?

I think it would help with energy costs if we stayed on BST through the winter.

Whattodowithit88 · 28/10/2023 09:11

I love it when the clocks go back! I think we should give up BST and just stay where we’re supposed to be.

I remember being the most hated person in the world when I wrote the rota and had to choose who did that night!

MsJuniper · 28/10/2023 09:50

You don't get paid for the hours you work tonight? That's absolutely appalling. The clocks are changing so there is an extra hour in the night, it's not some magical celestial event. People should be paid for the hours they work or given an hour in lieu!

devildeepbluesea · 28/10/2023 09:52

I’m looking forward to a light dog walk again tomorrow morning. Less so it being dark at 5pm…

Icopewhenihope · 28/10/2023 09:53

I cannot wait! I love dark evenings! Bring it on! Winter is a coming!

Icopewhenihope · 28/10/2023 09:54

Although I am honestly shocked that people have to work another hour for nothing! That is shit!

Marmite27 · 28/10/2023 09:58

I remember eons ago when I had to clock in and out on cards. Everyone who had worked the extra hour had a pencil +1 on their card to make sure they got paid for it.

If you work another hour, you should get paid or TOIL IMO.

Me too. Can you claim your time back? We will.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/10/2023 10:42

@MsJuniper the idea is supposed to be that you work the night when they go forward, to make up for it. However it's one of those things that gets forgotten about until the week before it happens., fortunately our new manager lets us claim it back.

Night shift tonight, here too dreading it. I don't normally have a break at work, but I'm having one tonight.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/10/2023 10:44

It also completely mucked up our fluid balance charts!

Agree. It's not lightening up properly until 9am as it is

Robinbuildsbears · 28/10/2023 10:47

Don't the clock changes increase heart attacks? Not a fan of it, trying to change my toddler's sleep routine is a pain.

Maverickess · 28/10/2023 11:00

Feel for those on nights, they feel never ending some nights as it is without adding an extra hour on as well!
Though I didn't particularly like working the other one either because I had an hour less to get the same work done and that usually meant I didn't get my break that I didn't get paid for anyway . So I seemed to end up losing out either one I did!
I'm on days now and am at work tomorrow and it's quite likely that I won't notice as most stuff will change automatically until I get in the car and have a momentary panic because the car clock will be an hour out!

Yes, but the reverse applies in the spring when the clocks go forward, and they work an hour less.

Try changing the routine by 10 minutes a day and see if that works. I used to be in charge of a yard full of 20+ horses all demanding their breakfast and that's how we used to do it.

AlphaAlpha · 28/10/2023 11:17

Solidarity for my fellow night shifters - not only an extra hour to work but the thrill of the full moon too.
Oh, and payday weekend.
Should be an interesting one!

I'll be looking forward to my toddler getting up at the new 5.30
