60.00 to get a fridge removed

My fridge and freezer both stopped working
I have manged to get a 2nd hand all in one fridge freezer . But now it's going to cost 60.00 each to get the old fridge and freezer removed so 120 in all. That's through the council website. I know it costs because of the gases etc. I know 120 is not much to many people but it is to me . I don't know how I will sort it. Just pissed of with the cost of everything. Etc .

ao removal is half that price

heartbroken22 · 26/10/2023 19:11

Can you list it on freecycle as faulty or even olio. I'd try eBay too and list it for free. I did that with 2 of mine and both went.

t245klj · 26/10/2023 19:13

That's a good suggestion from @heartbroken22 . If no one takes it there's an app you can use where they come collect and take things to tip for you and often cheaper than council, think it's called tip tapp. They'll pick up and deliver the 2nd hand one too if you need that.

Can a friend take to tip for few quid. Ours you can take to tip free but 60 to have collected

Bobtheamazinggingerdog · 26/10/2023 19:15

find a man with a van who will take it for half that

toomanyshirts · 26/10/2023 19:17

Where I live, you put it outside your door and it is gone in less than an hour. Take the door off first.

Foodorder · 26/10/2023 19:18

Gosh that is expensive, our council has just increased from £10 to £30 for up to 5 large items, fridges included and there's been uproar. You can see why people flytip.

I have to say, out of laziness, I usually pay the extra to have old appliances taken away when the new ones are delivered. I don't think it's ever been £60

TheThingIsYeah · 26/10/2023 19:25

120 sovs? 'kin ell.

Do you get any rag n'bone men round your manor? We have one regularly, I could hear the distinctive ringing of the bell the other day as it goes; they'd have that off you in no time.

I don't think they take fridge and freezers now.

Something thing to do with the components to make them.

They need to be specially disposed of.

Astonishing · 26/10/2023 19:42

As PP said, AO took ours for £20 apiece.

Lovebeingamummy2 · 26/10/2023 19:49

£120 is absolutely ridiculous OP! For the posters saying about AO don't you have to buy from them to use there removal and recycling service just wondering for my own future reference.

No they do a separate removal service

megletthesecond · 26/10/2023 20:05

Our council is £40 an appliance, but I think the second item is cheaper. Even then I had to wait almost a month to have a freezer collected.

Blimey, our council is five items for £35.

Inwould try AO.com as others have suggested.

RedRiverShore4 · 26/10/2023 20:13

If it's under counter size they fit quite easily in a car if you know anyone who will take it to the tip for you, I wouldn't risk a stranger doing it though

Blackbyrd · 26/10/2023 20:14

Argos charge £20. However that's not OP's problem, £120 is extortionate. If they're under counter appliances they'll easily fit in most cars, especially with the doors off. Pay someone to take them to the dump in their car, on separate occasions to avoid questioning

Same, I found that out after I'd already paid for the council to pick up but they were gone by the time they came to collect them

Moneybags2023 · 26/10/2023 20:21

Thank you Everyone. I don't have anyone who can take tip for me . Thank you for oa suggestion. Better that paying out 120. So I will try work something out with that .

I live in a poor sort of area explains why so many fridge/freezers are fly tipped .

@flatpack1 that's really good to know I was always under the impression removal and recycle was a kind of 'add on' to a purchase thank you

I think council tips charge for fridges due to the gas, likely the cost will be listed on the local authority website
