Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The window's open so I can hear the birds, & the robin's popping out of his tree at the bottom of the garden every now and again.

Had a very tired (hungover-ish) day yesterday so the kitchen's an absolute bomb site 🙈 and there's washing to catch up on.

We're off for a wander to a local warehouse that sells a bit of everything after we've made a start sorting out in here. We'll finish off when we get in.

I've got a rather large joint of pork in the slow cooker, to do tea today and tomorrow evening. I'm off for a late lunch with friends tomorrow so don't really want to cook when I get in.

Later on, if I have time before tea, I'll start painting the next two sets of peg dolls, and secret peg doll. If not, they'll get done later in the week & I'll do some more of my current crochet project in front of the tv once I've been in the shower.

What about all of you? 🙂

We are on holiday in Central Scotland. Perfect sunny morning already been out to stroke the horses in the field next door, then off the see the Kelpies later.

Justonedayatatime11 · 22/10/2023 09:26

Oh yay @lucysmam you're back! I hope you're ok.
I'm still in bed. DD is with her dad until Weds, so it's a mini break from parenting for me. Plan for today is a mountain of housework, trip to M&S food hall to try and find something I actually want to eat and finally, very belatedly, photograph the kittens so I can get them advertised. Better late than never. Maybe! Grin

Cosycover · 22/10/2023 09:30

Back to school/work tomorrow after a week off. For the first time in a long time I have the Sunday blues.

Need to sort uniforms, pick up some lunch box and halloween costumes bits and something for dinner.

Want to get the kids out but I can't face another park. We have been to loads recently. Need a better idea.

MrsPoliportsGoose · 22/10/2023 09:31

Currently in my pj's preparing sugar syrup to go feed the bees, got to dig through the freezer to find something that will defrost in time to cook tea, and hopefully going for a lovely autumnal country walk with DH to a pub this afternoon.

Kids are doing their own thing and we will all meet up at 6 for whatever it is I can find to cook. Absolutely not going near a supermarket or shop today even if we only eat beans on toast!

lucysmam · 22/10/2023 09:33

@Cosycover what about swimming? Though, tbf, I'm not keen on swimming. Local museum?

@Justonedayatatime11 aw, I think you'd be happy keeping all of the kittens 🐈

@Longlive sounds like a nice way to spend the day 😊

In my armchair with feet up enjoying the view onto my micro garden on a lovely clear day. I've had my coffees and the cats have had their oat milk catocinos, and are making whirry "play with me" noises.

mamaduckbone · 22/10/2023 09:34

Good morning @lucysmam and all!
It's a beautiful sunny day here, so I'm looking forward to a morning at the rugby club watching ds2 and catching up with the parents over a coffee.

I've been up since 6.30, which has annoyed me. It's the end of half term here and I woke with all the things I need to do buzzing around so I got up and turned the laptop on for an hour before anyone else was awake. More of the same later, unfortunately, but I might try and get a walk in with Dh for an hour.

Tg2023 · 22/10/2023 09:39

Waiting for a taxi picking us up from our hotel to the airport 😩
We're in Greece & I'm dreading returning to the uk weather 😭

Macey78 · 22/10/2023 09:42

Sat here having a cuppa too. Dd 13 and 8, we are going away for a few days tomorrow and a list of things to do.
Not raining for the first time in a few days and have a
heap of washing/drying
take my mum shopping.
Dd13 has a football match 20milea away at 3
Pack when I'm back.
Hubby hopefully will cook today.

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 22/10/2023 09:43

Im watching the news from my couch sitting under a duvet for fluffiness even though it isn’t cold. Im hoping to make myself do some work today so it’s finally done. How do you paint your peg dolls? Do you varnish them with something special afterwards?

gingercat02 · 22/10/2023 09:44

Morning @lucysmam
I'm still in bed, checking the socials on my phone.
DS stayed at a friend's last night and has just come home, and the shopping is due soon, so best get up.
There are no real plans for today. Bit of a tidy up after some decorating, going to strip the beds and do some washing, and then roast beef dinner followed by the F1 and Strictly results on catch-up.

MaBellOnDaLoose · 22/10/2023 09:45

I've had a delightful lie in, now I'm going to have another coffee whilst looking out of the window and saying "what a lovely day".

Then I'm going to tidy the kitchen, let the cats in, wash up, let the cats out, put the dishwasher on, let the cats back in,put a wash on, let one of the cats out, get the kids involved in putting clothes away (& let the other cat out) and making sure they've got what they need for school, let one of the cats in, make Sunday lunch, let the other cat in.
If Dh is feeling up to it, we might go for a little walk later but he's picked up covid for the first time and is feeling absolutely lousy.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 22/10/2023 09:49

Good morning Lucysmam and others. longlive 👋 I live fairly near to the Kelpies. I hope you are enjoying your holiday.
Yesterday I had the sofas and rug in the living room cleaned professionally. They are looking amazing and I'm really glad I had them done. They'll last another couple of years now. I had a busy week of looking after the grandsons so I'm having a lazy weekend. I might bake later but I might just potter about. It's a beautiful day so maybe some gardening. Enjoy your day

lucysmam · 22/10/2023 09:53

@IwishIdidntlikesugar acrylic paint for the dolls, details with either a fine gel type pen or Posca paint pen (depends how fine I want them to be) then clear yatch varnish to seal them.

They still sometimes end up in a sorry state & need repairs so I'm going to try and set up a storage system for them when I'm back to work next week...I need to acquire myself a notice board and blank wall space first though!

Morning lucysmam - I took over your slot yesterday! Lovely Autumn day here in Cornwall so I will go out for a walk later, probably round the village & harbour near us. Still in bed at the mo & made DH a cuppa. I’ll have a shower, wash & style my hair after he’s had his shower. I haven’t planned today’s meals so not sure what’s for tea, plus we have a 4 hour round trip to collect DD14 so need to fit food around that. Really need to clear the kitchen table. We always eat off our laps watching tv & it’s not good to do that all the time. The table is disappearing under piles of magazines, letters etc. It will be very satisfying to be able to see my nice cloth again! Also need to book a Christmas meal & pay the deposit.

FortunataTagnips · 22/10/2023 09:59

Morning, @lucysmam - we missed you yesterday!
DP’s taken DD off to her Sunday club, so I’ll have a bath and then make some chocolate brownies. I’m making a big batch every week at the moment, so we’re not tempted by UPF horrors. Will also put some pasta sauce on for lunch, which we’ll have when DD gets back. I quite fancy Nigella’s sardine pasta.
My dad’s coming round for tea later, plus I need to nip to M&S at some point to collect the dressing gown I ordered impulsively after reading a thread on here!

MyCircumference · 22/10/2023 10:00

two loads of washing as a forecasted dry day
probable meet dm for a walk with ddog

caringcarer · 22/10/2023 10:00

I have masses to do today. We're off on holiday in the early hours of Thursday and haven't got our euros yet. Foster son is going on holiday separately on Friday to Dubai on a cricket tour for a week. I have to buy him new trainers and more sports bottoms today. Sort out his insurance. Take him to cricket training for 2 hours. There isn't really time to drive home then back to collect him so I'm going for a pub lunch on my own while I wait so 2 whole hours to myself in what will be a very hectic day. Foster Son has to finish his college assignment to hand in early because he won't be here to finish over half term. DH has to get down suitcases. Amazon is delivering those little scales on a hook so we can weigh up cases to keep under target weights. He's also got to nip out and buy some new jeans. He also has promised to pop over to my son's to help with a bit of fisish off painting in his kitchen. He'll do that while I'm out with Foster son.

MyCircumference · 22/10/2023 10:01

and book the journey to dd's graduation ceremony

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 22/10/2023 10:04

I have a horrible cold, it's been over two weeks and it's not shifting, and now it's affecting my heart/lungs, however I'm staying with friends so they're looking after me.
I'm going to go out to the supermarket for a couple of bits to go with Sunday roast later, as I'm OK to drive, then will eat said roast dinner which will be cooked for me!

thefinaltwist · 22/10/2023 10:07

Morning. Some of these days sound very busy!

We have been off on holiday last week but spent the week decorating ds room, building furniture, lifting the carpet, dump runs etc so I feel like I've not had a holiday at all 🙁yesterday was also busy so today I've promised myself a lazy jammie day and a bath with a facemask.

I'm actually still in bed not even had a coffee yet just enjoying the slow pace and silence in the house

Simonjt · 22/10/2023 10:07

Good morning, I dropped my lovely mum off at the airport this morning, so before I go home I’ve stopped in the city for coffee and a snack, I’m sat looking out onto lake Mäleran. It’s very cloudy today, the sky looks quite angry.

A very boring day here today, lots of tidying, cleaning and laundry to get sorted. Later we’re going to make some popcorn and watch two episodes of pokemon, the old school ones, not the new nonsense.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 22/10/2023 10:09

I’m on day 2 of a 56hr shift at work. But currently have a few hours to myself so having a cup of tea and scroll through mumsnet. Going to have a look if we can book a log cabin or cottage for a couple of days in the half term.

Got a long drive to pick up the young person I support later, then come back and hopefully straight to bed.

mondaytosunday · 22/10/2023 10:10

Cats got me up early (more fool me for not shutting the hall door keeping them downstairs as usual), so fed them breakfast let the dogs out. Then when back to sleep! So will get up soon, have some breakfast and take dogs for a walk - nice to see the sun is out! Tesco dude coming, or is it Ocado? Then my daughter and I are going to a late lunch at a friends house to meet her two new adopted dogs. She's other side of London so may take up to 45 min to get there. Then home for a chill evening!

Topsy44 · 22/10/2023 10:21

Not a lot today - my DD has got a stinker of a cold (am so glad it’s half term next week) so we are both on the sofa in our pjs. I will get dressed shortly and get a wash on as lovely blue skies here too.

Will do a bit of tidying/sorting out and probably pop out to the shops to get us a few treats to have while watching a film later.
