Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The window's open so I can hear the birds, & the robin's popping out of his tree at the bottom of the garden every now and again.

Had a very tired (hungover-ish) day yesterday so the kitchen's an absolute bomb site 🙈 and there's washing to catch up on.

We're off for a wander to a local warehouse that sells a bit of everything after we've made a start sorting out in here. We'll finish off when we get in.

I've got a rather large joint of pork in the slow cooker, to do tea today and tomorrow evening. I'm off for a late lunch with friends tomorrow so don't really want to cook when I get in.

Later on, if I have time before tea, I'll start painting the next two sets of peg dolls, and secret peg doll. If not, they'll get done later in the week & I'll do some more of my current crochet project in front of the tv once I've been in the shower.

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning @lucysmam and all, I do like to read and imagine all these happy everyday Sunday's playing out, especially in such difficult and sad times.
I have given muself a bit of a news break lately just grabbing the odd update.
Slow morning here DH is off collecting a tree for one of his clients.
Just dropped DD 16 off at her job for a few hours. Cats helped me prep some salmon cubes to marinate for salmon rice bowls later, and they had a little bite each for their patience.
DD 13 is suffering with her second vile chesty cold/flu in the month. First one was Covid but this one is just that nasty one doing the rounds.
We have a late half term here so they still have a week to go and they are both flagging.
I need to do some tidying and hoovering and usual Sunday prep for the week ahead.
This afternoon is a hilly woodland walk with my neighbour and then light the fire and read for a while.

InglouriousBasterd · 22/10/2023 10:46

I missed your thread yesterday @lucysmam They’ve become my happy Saturday morning read with a coffee!

Very lazy morning here as late night watching a film, and DD is still flat out. She’s planning a trip into town at lunchtime to wangle lunch out of me Grin

I need to do some work this afternoon and then cottage pie and a film. Have a lovely Sunday all!

CrapBucket · 22/10/2023 10:50

Morning all. So far I have fed the dog and had a coffee. Next on the list, have another coffee, make a meal plan for the week.

Pack for a work trip… clean my bedroom… mow the lawn… grocery shop… and maybe some exercise…

Thislittlekitten · 22/10/2023 11:08

Good morning. I’m another one who missed this yesterday. My favourite threads.

Just made breakfast for everyone and about to get ready for the day. Everyone back to school and work tomorrow so want to take the kids for a walk tire them out for bed tonight.

Just had a roofer up, we are East coast Scotland so some damage after the storm though not nearly as bad as some have had. It’s been devastating to see.

However it’s a beautiful day outside so things are looking up. Need to decide on tea tonight, something easy and just relax.

TheOldLadyOfThreadneedleStreet · 22/10/2023 11:15

Just recovering from a cold (possibly Covid but didn’t test so who knows) which floored me for a few days so a low key weekend. Took DD to her part time job for 9am and will pick her up at 4:30. Will do a little gentle gardening around midday when it’s a bit warmer out, though it’s a gorgeous morning here, we have a lavender hedge to cut back. Then it’s a roast this evening and FaceTime my DS who is at uni. Hopefully manage the ironing and get to put my feet up for an hour or so too.

BitofaStramash · 22/10/2023 11:24

I don't feel well so longing on the sofa in my nightie.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/10/2023 11:27

Have had a faffing about morning with a little light cleaning. Off for a pub lunch at 1:30 with an old friend I haven't seen for several years. This afternoon a bit of knitting and maybe a film with dh and ds this evening. It's day 2 of half term here. I'm a teacher and I'm resolutely not thinking about work until tomorrow! I went down with a cold on Thursday and thought 'Typical - just in time for the holidays', but amazingly I'm pretty much better already!

We're in Greece & I'm dreading returning to the uk weather 😭

It's glorious autumn sunshine here in Cumbria, if that's any help!

dontforgetme · 22/10/2023 11:32

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone!
I have the hangover from hell so have done not a lot, one load of washing in the machine and really need to clean the kitchen. Am waiting til 12pm for a Big Mac meal then hopefully I'll feel like sorting my house/life out Grin
Quiet day planned in the house anyway, pie and mash for dinner. Think we may rent the ninja turtle movie later, kids have seen it but I haven't yet.

IncompleteSenten · 22/10/2023 11:34

My blood pressure has gone through the roof so I'm staying in bed watching bad sci fi movies, doing embroidery and cuddling my cat.

OldTinHat · 22/10/2023 11:58

Good to see you back today @lucysmam! Sympathies for yesterday's hangover.

I was going to go to the cinema this morning but really can't be bothered. This afternoon, I'm picking up my Aldi click and collect order which consists solely of wine! I saw a video on Tiktok about a wine reduced from £8.49 to £3.49 which is supposed to be excellent. My friend said the shop had none so I thought I'd try click and collect and, yay, they've got it. That's Christmas sorted!

TheBestSpoon · 22/10/2023 12:01

Got a "lie in" to 7:45 this morning, although 18 month old DS2 was up from 1:30-2:30am, so it was needed! Made breakfast burritos, Skyped my parents. DS1 is going to a Hallowe'en party across the road with DH now and I'll join them with DS2 after his nap. Hopefully nap time will last long enough to fit in a coffee and 20 mins with my book as well as some chores....

Home mid-afternoon, then roast chicken for dinner and try to get the boys to bed at a decent hour so we can tackle some life admin and have an early night - half term this week, so some complex childcare logistics await!

AutumnSolace · 22/10/2023 12:12

My favourite thread! I, too, missed you yesterday. SmileSmile

(I’ll be back to post my day, just making a cup of tea!)

OldTinHat is that a white wine & if so what’s it called please?

RabbitsRock · 22/10/2023 12:50

Sorry forgot italics - OldTinHat was that a white wine & if so what’s it called please?

countdowntonap · 22/10/2023 12:55

Done an early morning spinning class, then gym workout with DH. Then did a 3 mile walk in the sun after breakfast.
Now I’m watching a psychological thriller movie before lunch, which will be followed by an afternoon nap and then drinks in the pub. A typical Sunday for me, but much needed after a busy work week.

countdowntonap · 22/10/2023 12:57

@ilovebagpuss PLEASE can you share more details about the marinated salmon cubes? Is it for a poke bowl style meal? I’d love to make this.

Kim82 · 22/10/2023 12:59

Good afternoon all. We’ve all had an incredibly lazy morning today, nobody is dressed apart from dd19 who is at work til 6pm.

I need to get off my backside and get myself showered then out to the shop for cat food as we used the last of it this morning.

I’m hoping being out and about will then give me the energy to get started on the cleaning as nothing apart from the basics has been done all week as between a hectic week at work and visiting my mum in hospital I’ve just not had time to do any of it.

So I’ll hopefully clean this afternoon (although this isn’t guaranteed) and it’s an easy tea of fish, new potatoes and veg. I’ll finish the wine I opened last night then an early night ready for work again tomorrow. Fingers crossed it’s an easier week this week!

Tlolljs · 22/10/2023 13:05

Had a lie in didn’t get up til 8.
Made bacon sandwiches for my son and 3 grandsons. Son and eldest have just gone to football. The boys are in the garden, nice sunny day here, cold but sunny. Going to make gammon for dinner later, then strictly.

Loafbeginsat60 · 22/10/2023 13:26

Got up around 10 (Altho I had been out earlier to let the chickens out)

Got ready and went to Asda for the weekly shop as I couldn't get a delivery slot. Worst way to spend £125 then I had to pack it up and put it all away. Unbelievably I will now have to make it into meals all week. Pah.

Just been out with a pumpkin for the chickens and goats. It's so sunny.

Back to work tomorrow so I have the Sunday blues and cba doing any more.

NonMiDispiace · 22/10/2023 13:46

Hello everyone! A deliciously lazy day here, we’re on holiday in west Wales and have two weeks of doing whatever we like.
Dh has taken the dog off on the coastal path, so I have had coffee while people watching from the upstairs living room. I went out for a wander in the sunshine, really pleasantly warm, along to a little ancient church where I wandered around the churchyard.
It backs onto allotments so stopped for a lovely chat with an elderly man who’s lived here all his life (84 years)
Sat and did some sketching, watching the waves and people walking on the beach.
When DH gets back we’re having cold chicken, chips and coleslaw, cba to cook a full roast (going to the pub next Sunday)
This afternoon I will get on with knitting another pair of socks (lost count but I think it’s my 64th pair!) for our lovely dog walker, while watching something on the iPad.
Have a lovely afternoon everyone.

RabbitsRock · 22/10/2023 17:11

NonMiDispiace that sounds blissful!

ssd · 22/10/2023 17:27

Hello @lucysmam , nice to see you, i was another one missing you and worried a bit that you weren't feeling great. Glad you are ok and still returning to work soon.

ilovebagpuss · 22/10/2023 17:44

@countdowntonap hi, I just take the skin off some salmon fillets the little narrow ones work best.
Pop some of the following in a bowl
Soy sauce
Grated garlic
Dash of vinegar
Sweet chilli sauce
And because I had some left over I whacked some tamarind paste in there.
Chop into cubes and marinade for however long you have, it's better after a couple of hours.
Roast it in oven on some foil or baking paper.
We had it basic style with rice and peas because my DD's aren't fans of proper poke bowl garnish.
I have done it with a nice garnish of pickled cucumber and carrot and really you can add all sorts of crunchy veg to make it proper poke bowl.
Some mixed sesame seeds on top.

Sadly not a white (my preference), but this one. I've had a little glass taste or two and it's lovely and light. groceries.aldi.co.uk/en-GB/p-specially-selected-california-malbec-75cl/4061459340556
