As he hasn't organised a gift for his brother's wedding, I should sit down tomorrow and draw or paint a picture to be framed and given. Reader, I cannot draw. Nor paint. 🤔

Just draw your DH with a dunce’s cap and frame it in the kitchen.

LeavesOnTrees · 19/10/2023 22:43

Does the EU glitter ban extend to the UK ?
Maybe the OP should stick to sequins to be on the safe side.

I used to love drawing things in glue then pouring glitter on top for a lovely sparkly creation.

I think this is the best thread I've ever seen 😂😂😂

As time is now ticking away and you're seemingly yet to start work on your masterpiece, not outsource a commission, I think that your best bet is to buy something quickly from The Bradford Exchange. It has some truly captivating heirlooms most certainly befitting a wedding gift. In fact, I think us mumsnetters could help select them a little something.

There's a wealth of ideas on that site.

Not

Your

Problem

JustEatTheOneInTheBallPit · 19/10/2023 23:09

I get all of my wedding gifts from the cash point outside the co-op. They always go down very well.

Guesswho88 · 19/10/2023 23:14

😂😂😂I love this.

Coffeesnob11 · 19/10/2023 23:25

I feel like you have to give them art even if you buy them a present (restaurant vouchers for their anniversary always goes down well)
I think with art it's go big or go home. Could you pour paint onto a massive canvas and get dh to do paint angels in their wedding colours? Maybe you could dip random things in paint and throw them at dh so they hit the paper in an abstract way?
Print off sheet music from their wedding song and stick their names to it using scrabble tiles?
Take an easel to the wedding (you must have one hiding as a professional artist! and do a live portrait on the day?)
Go onto fiverr and commission someone to do something?
Print out facts of on this day and stick them in a frame. Bonus points if the are sad or morbid.
Put their initials on a toilet brush holder (used one maybe to add authenticity)
I am excited for you. There are so many options and so little time.

I'd be sending hubby off for dope testing, as you'd have to be under the influence of some fairly impressive mind-altering drugs to think that was a good idea. Or be a total dope.

There's your answer! Get hold of some fairly impressive mind-altering drugs, and inspiration is bound to strikeGrin

Ladybughouse · 19/10/2023 23:35

I was going to say find a free print on Pinterest. Or do an abstract polyfilla canvas.

Foxyaus · 19/10/2023 23:53

Get some wet paint on a canvas. Rub his nose in it.

mumofgirls35 · 19/10/2023 23:56

I guess this is a compliment in a weird way?

IdaPolly · 20/10/2023 00:06

I've started getting adverts from the Bradford Exchange now. Might they like a wizard of oz charm bracelet?

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 20/10/2023 00:10

😂😂😂

ImADevYo · 20/10/2023 00:11

@mysocksarehaunted even reading the first paragraph of that sounds exhausting not to mention none of the charity shops near me have anything close to a 'gilded frame'. Only an instruction if you live near posh town perchance?

LorW · 20/10/2023 00:27

Love the Belgian buns idea 😁😁😁

Hugosauras · 20/10/2023 00:32

@IdaPolly

Don't be daft. They can't both wear The Wizard of Oz Charm bracelet. It has to be a gift that they can jointly appreciate and something timeless of heirloom quality. Like this fake Fabergésque singing robin egg thing!

My husband, in his infinite wisdom, has decided that...
IdaPolly · 20/10/2023 00:54

That is definitely an heirloom that anyone would be delighted to inherit and give pride of place to, in the front window of a charity shop.

Ramalangadingdong · 20/10/2023 00:56

LTB!

Thatsridiculous · 20/10/2023 01:15

Easy solution.

Money in a card. At a push, also champagne in a nice bottle bag.

BIL will not except original art.

Ponderingwindow · 20/10/2023 01:21

I’m oddly invested in messing with your husband and trying to make your BIL and new spouse laugh. In a very low effort way of course. I got the idea to let ChatGPT write a short-story which you could have printed and bound or just print and stick in a frame. I’m not going to copy in the actual story it generated because the one I got is dependent on the answers I gave, but I am going to provide the initial prompt I used. It ultimately provided something just as bad as I hoped. It would fantastic in a silver picture frame or if you had more time bound in a nice leather cover.

I’d like you to help me write a short story. The basic plot is about a husband who asks his wife to paint a picture as a last minute wedding gift for his brother. She does not know how to paint. She then asks her friends to come up with lots of silly ideas on gifts to make instead. Ultimately, she decides to have ChatGPT help her write a short story as the gift. Ask me at least 10 questions to help you write the story.

I'm wiping tears from my eyes

BasiliskStare · 20/10/2023 01:34

Have I missed something - What is the Eu glitter ban ? I know over the last few years Tesco have stopped selling the glittery reindeer paper but do we have An Official Ban

Sorry to deflect from OP. I'd tell DH to think again. Even if talented ( and you may be more than you think ) 1 day is unfeasible to create something and get it framed. So send that serve right back at him to his feet , just skimming the net.

Perhaps tell him the muse did not visit you so he will have to sort out a present for them for himself.

NeunundneunzigHorseBallonz · 20/10/2023 01:38

I would not be able to refrain from drawing DH with the standard graffiti cock’n’balls on his forehead.

HattersLane · 20/10/2023 01:41

Get a piece of their wallpaper, put it in a frame. Job done. If they don't have wallpaper a pair of their pants will equally impress.
