As he hasn't organised a gift for his brother's wedding, I should sit down tomorrow and draw or paint a picture to be framed and given. Reader, I cannot draw. Nor paint. 🤔

I like the meditation on the bondage of modern marriage, in menstrual blood.

Or you could go Cubist and just do a square.

Or Modernist (?) and just do a dot.

Or Surrealist and do a photo of your DH's face, deconstructed, with subtle undertone of Rage.

CheshireCat1 · 19/10/2023 20:44

Bob Ross gives good tips.

Coldinscotland · 19/10/2023 20:46

What about The Emperor's Clothes idea and send an empty canvas?

Purtyburty · 19/10/2023 20:49

It's the Jane Eyre reference for me.

I think you should seize this opportunity, OP. A searing avant-garde abstract meditation on the modern bondage of the married state. Perhaps using your own menstrual blood.

😆 🤣 😂 😹

Sorry OP this is challenge I would love. You can do this!
Get to a big charity shop asap, find the nicest most ornate frame you can, pref one with a white mount and then a load of old romance novels, different vintages/fonts.
Then go to a newsagents and get a bunch of different newspapers and lifestyle magazines - pref romantic/nature/gardening themed and a gold and silver marker and prit stick and scissors, some basic kids paint palettes with a pink.
Then you can create a pretty collage from romance novel pages overlaying each other (proof read carefully and discard any smutty ones, unless that would be their thing?) maybe some you can do a pinkish paint wash over some of the pages, if you think you'll have time to dry them. Then you can cut and paste little cut outs of roses, birds, champagne glasses, white horses, fairies or any cutesy stuff over the top, you can also use cut out letters from newspapers to make their names and wedding date underneath. (Honestly I know this sounds a bit poison pen-ish but in context it will be whimsy cottage-core.) Then you can add gold and silver accents, and maybe 'gild' the entire frame.
Then charge your husband Etsy going rates for it 😁
If you decide to go down the painting/drawing route - make sure you brazen it out with bold, firm strokes. Good Luck!

@mysocksarehaunted you're my kind of poster Smile

Is he The Joy of Pain man, I have never dared watch.

Nextexitisthelast · 19/10/2023 21:00

Why are you having to sort this?

TeaGinandFags · 19/10/2023 21:00

😂😂😂

MaryBeery · 19/10/2023 21:01

I'd be sending hubby off for dope testing, as you'd have to be under the influence of some fairly impressive mind-altering drugs to think that was a good idea. Or be a total dope.

If you get stuck, I give you permission to use this. Not my best work but you did say you weren't the best artist, I tried to be authentic.

That is absolutely awesome!! 😂😂

Ahh God love him, you have a keeper there OP!

My late OH's best wedding faux pas related to his best man's wedding, we received the invitation when we were living abroad and I made sure he replied.
We got to the wedding and in the reception line the best man laughed, turned to his new wife and introduced OH to her with the words, There you, told you they'd be here! Apparently they had received an empty envelope but assumed from the stamp and knowing OH ticked off our acceptance!

Coldinscotland · 19/10/2023 20:46

What about The Emperor's Clothes idea and send an empty canvas?

And get him to tell them that it's the painting version of the John Cage symphony!

Candleyankee · 19/10/2023 21:12

Part of me thinks it’s entirely endearing he thinks you capable 😂

Id go for it. Tell the couple you bought jt from an artist you heard about in your private art dealer circle

ElleCapitaine · 19/10/2023 21:13

OP, I’ve drawn some Belgian buns you can use if you like. Everyone loves Belgian buns.

This is a lovely thoughtful idea!! I might steal it.

You’re welcome!

Draw this, leave it on his pillow tonight, and see if he comes up with an alternative idea for a wedding pic tomorrow.
