Found this on my duvet right where my cat has been sleeping..it's seemed to be attached to a hair or two, not really oval in shape, more oblong. Quite long legs at the back but couldn't count how many! Any advice?

looks like a flea

smilesup · 18/10/2023 17:58

Not a tick. Not sure about bedbug though

roseopose · 18/10/2023 17:59

Think it's too big for a flea, it was probably 4mm plus but other than that it did look more like a flea. I've seen deer ticks and it doesn't really look like that either.

Looks like a flea. You need to treat the cat.

PragmaticWench · 18/10/2023 18:00

Not a tick. Could be a German cockroach.

roseopose · 18/10/2023 18:00

@Cadenza12 they're done monthly and for ticks, been done perhaps a week ago so maybe it's died and dropped off as a result.

Oh good god what is one of them!

Doesn’t look like a tick. Could it have a forked tail? As looks a bit like an earwig body.

PencilsInSpace · 18/10/2023 18:02

Not a bedbug.

Wren77 · 18/10/2023 18:03

I would also say flea!

PencilsInSpace · 18/10/2023 18:04

Can you take a picture from the top, looking down on its back?

Threewheeler1 · 18/10/2023 18:04

Is it sort of flat? Does look like a flea.
I found one on DS's ear when he was baby 😬
The cat used to love being around him and, despite the flea treatments, was always depositing them on DS!

MysticalMegx · 18/10/2023 18:04

Not a tick, looks more like a flea but iv never seen a bedbug to know if it would be or not

I sort of dissected it but I took this, it has some sort of lined markings

It's quite a juicy looking flea though OP 😁
I've been so itchy this week reading about the bedbugs...getting paranoid!

C1N1C · 18/10/2023 18:07

Yep. Cockroach.

I'd also agree, most likely a German cockroach, but I can't seem to magnify the pic. If your house backs onto woodland, it could be an English cockroach, which isn't a Pest... but honestly, looks German, which is.

Barleysugar86 · 18/10/2023 18:08

Doesn't look like either. Closest to cockroach I think in colour and size.

2764mice · 18/10/2023 18:08

Can you take a clearer picture?

Threewheeler1 · 18/10/2023 18:08

OK, really itchy now.

PencilsInSpace · 18/10/2023 18:10

Definitely not a bedbug, they have pointy bottoms and short legs.

It was really hard to take a decent pic, it was kind of falling apart. I'm not sure it's big enough to be a cockroach and it didn't have antennae. No evidence of any more and my room is pretty clean with hard floors so wouldn't I see them?

OP posts:
PencilsInSpace · 18/10/2023 18:12

Cockroaches have long antennae, this doesn't appear to have.

Does the cat go outside? If so it could be any of a bajillionty different bugs brought in stuck to its fur.

BobblePin · 18/10/2023 18:14

French Bed Bug. You need to burn bed sheets

Yes and we live rurally, no woodland but farmland with sheep on that she goes through. Hopefully it's just some sort of non human biting bug.

Botchedbigknittingwheel · 18/10/2023 18:19

I don't know what it is but it definitely isn't a bedbug.
