What’s the nicest meal you’ve eaten recently?

Mine is the humble jacket potato!

Went out for lunch with a friend last week and I had the most amazing jacket with prawn mayo and avocado topping, with a generous side salad.

I’m thinking I might just take DC after school today for round 2 😆

Making it myself just never tastes the same - why is that??

I made some egg and bacon fried rice from the Easy Peasy Foodie website and it was the perfect meal at the perfect time. Kids and I loved it and it took 10 minutes to cook.

A simple one - chicken, cheese and avocado sandwich, toasted. I’ve had the combination many times, but never toasted, and it was really tasty. Followed it with an apple donut and a mug of flat white. A very enjoyable lunch!

Shepherd's pie. Made by my MIL. Food is always nicer if someone else does the cooking and clearing!

I feel I have done my share of cooking for others and now really appreciate and enjoy whenever others- professional or not - cook for me.

I went out yesterday and had a pork goulash. Never eaten one before.

Loved it so much that I bought the recipe book that it was advertised from 😂

Made myself. Not been well so fancy cooking out. Chopped up whatever veg in is in , some spuds, and some low fat halloumi. Herbs, spices, some oil, onions garlic and water, bake covered then uncovered and it makes a beautiful bake. 3x this last fortnight in different combinations!

We went to Bruges for a weekend recently. Stopped at Cite Europe on the way home to do some shopping and ate at their food court. I had a crepe with goats cheese and honey with salad and it was one of the nicest things I've ever eaten in my life. i wanted to lick the plate.

PopSocksRock · 18/10/2023 09:44

Not really the same but a burger king meal. I haven't had one for well over 10 years and it just hit the spot

Teddleshon · 18/10/2023 09:51

I had that exact meal last night op for the first time ever (home alone so wanted something simple) - so yum!

JenaWren · 18/10/2023 10:45

I had a glorious avo, red pepper and res onion toastie at a posh cafe in Teddington on Saturday.

Alas it's too far for a return visit but oh my it was special!

Beef casserole - made at the "last minute" in the pressure cooker - sat down to it about 90mins after deciding we're having it.

BEST CASSEROLE EVER

dumplings were fluffy, beef tender, super flavoursome

DilemmaDelilah · 18/10/2023 11:20

Supermarket cottage pie
Slow cooked pork belly with roast potatoes
Sour cream and onion pringles
However my taste buds are ruined by chemotherapy and I've been put on a low fibre and bland diet so out of the things I actually like there's not much I'm allowed.

ClarkGablesMoustache · 18/10/2023 11:23

A perfectly poached egg on a thick piece of sourdough toast with loads of farm butter. Very simple but just the most delicious lunch.

I'm so glad we swapped to the farm butter, everything tastes nicer with it.

PopSocksRock · 18/10/2023 11:24

Oooh stop @00100001 ! I'm salivating Grin
Hope your treatment is going well @DilemmaDelilah Flowers

DilemmaDelilah · 18/10/2023 11:30

@PopSocksRock Thank you. Not going great as I developed chemo toxicity after my first session, so had to stop, and it made me ill for quite a long time, but I'm on immunotherapy and aromatase therapy, had surgery 4 weeks ago and will be starting radiotherapy in 2 weeks so onwards and upwards! Feeling quite good at the moment actually, my right arm where I had my covid jab on Monday is actually more sore than the arm which had the nodes removed in the armpit and which has nerve pain, so that is good 😁. Shows I'm healing and that the exercises are working.
Sorry to side-track the post 😁

Beige meal of chicken Kiev and chips, done in air fryer with rack so garlic leakage drips on chips while cooking. Mmmmm

Teddleshon · 18/10/2023 12:55

@jay55 ooh that sounds so delicious!

benfolds5 · 18/10/2023 13:01

A recent one which involved using up leftovers and bits of veg in the fridge. I stir fried the veg (sugar snap peas, red pepper, mushrooms, spring onion) and then added leftover cooked chicken, Thai green curry sauce, coconut milk, leftover cooked spaghetti, a few cashews, chilli flakes, a spoonful of peanut butter, some lime juice and some chopped parsley. It was surprisingly brilliant!

Strokethefurrywall · 18/10/2023 13:06

Made chicken biryani in the instant pot on Sunday, it was phenomenal!

Bonjovispjs · 18/10/2023 13:14

Goats cheese and piquillo pepper croquettes in a pub a couple of weeks ago, they were so good, we went back last weekend to have them again 😋

Jemimapuddleduk · 18/10/2023 13:32

Hairy bikers special shepherds pie followed by a plum and apple cobbler with clotted cream. Absolutely delish.

Mrsjayy · 18/10/2023 13:34

Was away for the weekend and ate at this pub in Northumberland. I had a tandoori chicken flatbread thing and oh my god I hoovered it up it was delicious 😋

Oganesson118 · 18/10/2023 13:35

On Sunday I did some beef brisket in the slow cooker for about 10 hours and served it with cheesy mash, tenderstem, roasted carrots and roasted courgettes.

Ooh what's the name of the place? My in-laws live in Teddington and we are visiting in a couple of weeks 👍

Does a buttery crumpet and a nice cup of tea count as a meal?

It was exactly what I needed
