Mine is the humble jacket potato!

Went out for lunch with a friend last week and I had the most amazing jacket with prawn mayo and avocado topping, with a generous side salad.

I’m thinking I might just take DC after school today for round 2 😆

Making it myself just never tastes the same - why is that??

I was so unwell last week I had batch cooked stew, cottage pie etc for everyone else for the freezer previously but not got around to any veggie versions for myself, Dd1 scrabbled around and made "cheats mushroom stroganoff" just fried red onion and mushrooms in olive oil added garlic and tamari then chucked in a veggie stock pot and then some elmlea plant and served with boil in the bag rice. I'm never slow cooking it and faffing again it was amazing!

Smoked haddock gratin (recipe on BBC good food). Was easy and very very tasty.

I had lunch at Brindisa (tapas) in Borough Market last week and I had, among other things, the cheese croquetas - which are without doubt the most delicious thing EVER!

Meal out - yesterday at Bancone silk handkerchiefs (pasta) with walnut butter and a confit egg yolk - it is incredible. My friend and I both had a forkful and simultaneously gestured to the waiter that we were going to need another bowl!

Meal in - lunch today was a herb buttered steak on baguette with garlic and Parmesan mayo, fried red onions and rocket - I made sex noises!

In Aus, week before last. Took DP for a birthday treat at an expensive steak restaurant, we shared a Porterhouse which was cooked to perfection, served with skinny fries and stir fried Brussels sprouts with pancetta and other stuff. It was the nicest steak I've ever eaten

My dad came round especially to bring an aubergine parmigiana and garlic bread, and he’d also brought apple pie and cream. I made a salad and bought a bottle of wine. It was a) completely unexpected b) completely delicious and c) made me feel very loved. 😍

Jalapeno cornbread with chorizo and various sides for breakfast two days running (Caravan restaurant, Southwark, London). We deliberately chose the hotel in order to have breakfast at Caravan. Best coffee too.

We were in Portugal last week and I had octopus which was swimming in olive oil and garlic. It was perfectly cooked, so simple and utterly delicious.

Wiglio · 18/10/2023 19:03

@NoSquirrels sounds like the perfect meal 😋

JenaWren · 19/10/2023 06:24

@BeverleyMacker it's the Fallow Deer on the High Street. A bit spendy but properly good.

I made the spiced carrot and lentil soup from the BBC good food website and it was awesome. Interestingly it isn't vegan as it contains milk but there are substitutes.

I had a really lovely butternut squash and sage risotto a couple of weeks ago, and it was so good. Simple and seasonal comfort food, followed by mulled wine plum crumble.

rocknrollaa · 19/10/2023 06:39

The other day I had baked beans on fresh sourdough toast with butter and topped it with some fried aubergine.

It was posh as hell and a great combo! 😂

Tarquina · 19/10/2023 06:49

2 tins tuna, drained and mashed, then mixed with salt, white pepper, mayonnaise and fresh lemon juice, all mixed together and eaten with a bag of salt and vinegar crisps.

Delicious!

NorthernLiner · 19/10/2023 12:55

@Teddleshon I have bought all the components to recreate this meal so fingers crossed 🤞🏻 it tastes somewhat similar!

@NoSquirrels That’s so lovely, how amazing is your dad? Aubergine parmigiana is one of my absolute favourites and I haven’t had it in an age so time to remedy that.

All these meals sound delicious and making me hungry 😂

Went to the Hand And Flowers last week, that was pretty spectacular! Cornish tin mine tart, John Dory & banana chocolate souffle.
