Has anyone else got the not covid lurgy?

Pushkinini · 18/10/2023 06:24

It started with a cold in the middle of last week, but I've been awake most of the night with the chills, headache, sore sinuses and my whole body aches.

I've done two Covid tests, both negative, so I'm pretty sure it's not that. I'm meant to be wfh today, but contemplating calling in sick. I'm just looking for fellow lurgy sufferers to wallow together!

I don't but husband and kids do, plus lots of other people I know... all done Covid tests multiple times!

GigiAnnna · 18/10/2023 07:03

I've woken up with razor blades in my throat. Not done a test but I will if I can find any in the cupboard. Husband has been unwell the last couple of days.

Bunnyhair · 18/10/2023 07:08

A doctor I work with said the tests we use in the UK aren’t up to date and don’t pick up the new variants of Covid (or there is only a window of an hour or two when the test will register positive in the presence of an infection).

So we may have Covid without knowing. Whatever it is I have is awful. I hope we all get better soon.

My adult son has it at the moment, apparently new strains aren’t being picked up from testing, but he’s working from home for short periods when he’s able to. I’ve woken with a sore throat, coughing, aches and chills.

Pushkinini · 18/10/2023 07:16

Maybe it is covid then. I have a hacking cough and feel fidgety too.

I know someone who works in a college where almost everyone has symptoms and half tested positive and half never did. Personally I’m sick at the moment and got a very clear positive, but I know people with the exact same symptoms (sore throat, fluyness, fatigue, headache, v high temperature) who didn’t. So I tend to think that the tests are a bit hit and miss at the moment. Though it’s possible there’s another similar virus doing the rounds too I suppose.

BrownTableMat · 18/10/2023 07:23

Hope you (and I!) feel better soon in any case - whatever the damn thing is! Do take care of yourself

PearlClutzsche · 18/10/2023 07:34

The Clutzsche family all have... something, not sure what. It started with sore throat (for me) and I've been achey, headachey, and this morning have upset stomach. All of our COVID tests are years old, so not with bothering with.
Get well soon, everyone.

hobbledyhoy · 18/10/2023 08:17

Yes! Been feeling like this since last week, incredibly sore throat, negative Covid test, just seems to be lingering.

Dancingfairydreams · 18/10/2023 08:27

Yes, one week in, and feel like death. Its grim.

I also have an awful smell in my nostrils...really not pleasant....anyone else had this?!

darisdet · 18/10/2023 08:28

I have a cough and a headache. I don't have any tests but I'd wondered about the symptoms.

MyheartgoingBoomBoomBoom · 18/10/2023 08:29

On week 3 and just starting to feel better. The exhaustion afterwards though, I am absolutely knackered.

herringboneparquet · 18/10/2023 08:30

Yes, started with a weird stabby headache and has progressed to sore throat, fatigue, very sore joints etc. Felt a bit of a blocked nose and chesty but nothing like a normal cold.
Borrowed a covid test off a friend and it was negative. Don't really want to go out and buy any to retest but this is not shifting and I'm feeling worse rather than better.

Polis · 18/10/2023 08:31

I still have a bad cold that started three weeks ago. Three weeks and one day to be precise.

FindingMeno · 18/10/2023 08:32

Our household seems to be in the grip of not-covid-but-sure-feels-identical lurgy.
Have lazily done a few old covid tests but not forking out for new ones.

amiold · 18/10/2023 08:34

Yes me and I'm very heavily pregnant. Could cry.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 18/10/2023 08:35

I think I’m coming down with it.

We’ve had Covid at my place of work and I’ve been stressed out lately which runs me down and stress tend to make me unwell.

I’m just going to drink tea and spend the day in bed.

Smurf123 · 18/10/2023 08:41

I'm 4 weeks in and while I feel a lot better a lot of the time, I'm still struggling with the tiredness, dizziness and racing heart

OneLittleFinger · 18/10/2023 08:41

It went through the nursery where I work and my dad's school. We both waited til the holidays to succumb, and have tag-teamed the two weeks. Luckily she's only been sleeping, but two 3 hour afternoon naps is very unusual these days. I've had the sore throat, headache and a pool full of snot, plus lost two days last week which I have very little memory of. Suspect we'll be fine just in time for school next week!

WithIcePlease · 18/10/2023 08:56

4 days of dressing gown of doom. I'm going to have a short walk today. I think I'm getting clearer in my mind today.
Body aches. Razor blade throat woke me again last night.
It's so miserable and I feel so sorry for myself
I am on leave - just using up an odd couple of days 🙄

CoffeeWithCheese · 18/10/2023 09:01

Yes I have the shitter cold that's going around - it's starting to lift now, and I have recent LFTs which have resolutely come back negative, so I've just chalked it down to "first shitty cold of the season", worked from home and carried on as normal. (Contrary to MN opinion I'm not a total ogre who goes around licking old ladies when I'm ill for fun)

DH now has the man-variant so is whimpering in pain on the sofa unable to reach further than the remote control and having lost all of his speech apart from the phrase "cup of tea, milk two sugars please".

I think we've forgotten there's usually been one absolute shitter cold/bug that does the rounds every autumn/winter with the last few years. Last year everyone got so many bugs that our nursing staff basically had a "pick your own" cold meds section set up in the office at one point with everyone's left over lemsip, strepsils etc!

Pushkinini · 18/10/2023 09:11

I've managed to drag myself out of bed as I just couldn't get comfy. This started last week when I was abroad and today is the worst I've felt and I'm a week in now.

I can't make up my mind if I'm hot or cold. One minute I'm shivering and the next I'm stripping off. Fortunately I'm on my own in the house as I'm not a pretty sight!

MotherofPearl · 18/10/2023 09:12

Yes me. I've been off for a few days with it now. Started with fever, sore throat, runny nose, violent sneezing and today the hacking cough has started up. Covid tests showing negative though.

Yes to this. I feel freezing so I make a hot water bottle. Then I feel boiling and chuck everything off. Then freezing again. Argh.

TheSnailAndTheWaaaail · 18/10/2023 09:20

I'll join in the misery! I had a sinusy cold 2 weeks ago, it cleared up and I was ok last week except for a barely noticeable tickle in my throat. Monday I rapidly worsened, temperature, constant dry cough, sore chest, shaking like a leaf, sinus pain. Raging positive covid test this time though Confused
