Has anyone else got the not covid lurgy?

It started with a cold in the middle of last week, but I've been awake most of the night with the chills, headache, sore sinuses and my whole body aches.

I've done two Covid tests, both negative, so I'm pretty sure it's not that. I'm meant to be wfh today, but contemplating calling in sick. I'm just looking for fellow lurgy sufferers to wallow together!

Yep.
Thought I was over it, but was with people over weekend who were clearly hatching it, and the bloody thing has freshened up, with added bellyache and much pooping!

There are some odd symptoms on this one (let's not prevaricate, it's not a cold or flu, it's a newer flavour of covid): The upset stomach, dizziness, loss of smell and taste and weirdness of both as they vanish and come back, then the way you think you're over it and it gives you a final whupping!

1.5/10 do not recommend.

Incidentally, the smell thing (anosmia) is down to the smell receptor cells at the back of your nose getting a kicking. The weird smells some of you talked about are the cells repairing themselves and starting to work again.

I got this from Google, but makes sense. I could kinda taste sweet and bitter and salt, but not smell for a few days, then smell faded back in gradually.

Same here. We've had about 6 people off in our team the last fortnight or so, some testing positive and some not. Absence levels across our company are massive right now (lots of different sites across the UK and a lot of people purely WFH).

A doctor I work with said the tests we use in the UK aren’t up to date and don’t pick up the new variants of Covid (or there is only a window of an hour or two when the test will register positive in the presence of an infection).

So we may have Covid without knowing. Whatever it is I have is awful. I hope we all get better soon.

Well I know loads of people using the UK tests (even ones that are out of date) that have tested positive very recently so they're picking it up.

amiold · 18/10/2023 10:11

@kingkongs potentially depends on variants ?

Papillon23 · 18/10/2023 10:16

I've also got some kind of lurgy: temperature (though not a dreadful one), horrible sinus ache, truly astonishingly snotty.

I'm currently languishing in bed feeling sorry for myself: I feel really rough.

Hoping it will clear up in the next couple of days as I'm meant to be flying on Saturday.

Some may be. But they're not 100% reliable (so I've heard) and there have been loads of different tests on the market.
It may depend on someone's testing technique, too.

Bunnycat101 · 18/10/2023 12:36

Yup. Couldn’t work out why I kept ramming the heating up last week and then took my temp to see I had a fever. I paid for a Covid test as don’t have any old ones left and negative but I was convinced I had it again as felt so tired.

I also have the dizziness which is unusual for me.

IWFH · 18/10/2023 13:24

Yes - bloody awful sore throat and hacking cough. Very unusual for me - I very rarely catch anything. Tested for covid but tests showing negative.

Excitingnewusername · 18/10/2023 16:32

DH and I had exactly the same symptoms, though his started earlier so I was a few days behind him at each stage, and exactly the same progression through symptoms in particular days.

He had blazing positive covid tests for 6 days, mine were all negative.

Crunchymum · 18/10/2023 16:52

Half of us are down with a non Covid illness.

Have tested a few times as DC3 (who is absolutely fine) has a hospital appointment tomorrow and I wanted to make sure we didn't have covid in the house.

Rattymare · 18/10/2023 17:01

I had it for 2 weeks, coughing sneezing and hot n cold, then I recovered. I felt well for 2 weeks and now am feeling really ill again and have been for the past week..
I've never had 2 heavy colds in such a short space of time like this. Each Covid test has been negative. I've done 4.

FlyingUnicornWings · 18/10/2023 17:10

I had something for a week - fever, malaise, fatigue, dry horrid sensation at back of nose. Went away for a week then came back but with more of a cough (still only mild). Only just feeling “better” but still exhausted.

Was a weird one, like flu but without any other obvious symptoms.

Ladybird69 · 18/10/2023 17:12

I’ve got it at the moment and I know lots of other people who have it too. It’s nasty stuff. I’ve had nausea and dizziness too.

Pushkinini · 19/10/2023 10:10

A joyful new symptom today, diarrhoea with a side of dizziness to boot.

minipie · 19/10/2023 10:14

I’ve got a stinker of a cold, but I think it’s just a cold. So far it’s followed the classic sore throat-concrete head-snotty-cough pattern. No tummy stuff or fever.

The only unusual symptom is that I’m really pissed off with DH, but I’m not sure that’s cold related.

Doggymummar · 19/10/2023 10:16

I was off sick with it yesterday was ill Monday Tuesday but pushed through. Thursday and Friday are non working days thankfully but I am still sick. Oh had it too had ordered COVID tests as local chemist no longer stock them, I went yesterday.

Persiana · 19/10/2023 10:17

I have something, negative covid test and no fever, but generally feel rough, sinus pain, so snotty, sore throat, blocked ears, sore chest. I also lost smell completely yesterday, think it's back now. I don't think I've ever had that with a cold so I do suspect covid

millymoo1202 · 19/10/2023 11:11

I feel dreadful but I am positive, completely different from first time I had it. Can’t get out of bed

GasPanic · 19/10/2023 12:46

Yes picked it up on a trip to Europe.

Negative covid tests.

Horrible sore throat, killer headache, blocked up nose, lot of snot. A bit of sneezing.

Feels awful. A couple of panadol give 3-4 hours of pain relief.

Saverage · 19/10/2023 14:42

Me too. Came on all of a sudden on Tuesday, full on sneezing, sore throat, sinus pain, blocked ear. Slightly better yesterday but now third day I'm worse again - sneezing and coughing not so bad, but nauseous, dizzy and head like a balloon.

2 negative tests.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 19/10/2023 14:44

I’ve got a nasty cold which keeps coming and going tested twice now for Covid and it’s not that. Because I’ve had covid and flu jabs it’s not as bad as it could be and getting wet in rain yesterday can’t have helped.
