I want a new surname (suggestions)

A bit random perhaps to some people, but I really want to change my surname!
What are the nicest surnames that you know? Any suggestions?

Background -
My surname from birth, I've always thought it was plain and boring, and it's very common.
I always imagined I would change it when I married, but I never got married, and I'm now late 40s and don't plan to marry even if I eventually meet "the one".
I don't have children, my dad is gone now, my mother has the same surname only through marriage to my dad, my siblings have different surnames through marriage, and I don't feel any particular attachment to extended family so I've no need to "honour" their name.
So I thought I'd treat myself to a new name! I want a name that when I introduce myself, people might think "that's a nice name". Something not overly common, but not so unusual that I have to spell it out repeatedly either. I am English, but I spent five years total living in different parts of Scandinavia so perhaps would be nice to choose a link to that part of my life, but doesn't need to be.

My dad knew a Mr & Mrs Christmas, and his best man had the surname Diamond.

I like Nightingale, Cavendish, Cassidy, Quinn

Lol at most of these names. I can't tell if some are joking or serious, although some are obviously taking the piss.

I like the idea of changing your surname, OP.

I'd choose Holiday if I could change surname. Great idea.

Not Holibobs?! Grin

Something starting with St is always good - how about St Columba?

Or a posh-sounding name that starts with at least three Fs.

Yes!! Three ‘F’s but they are pronounced like a Z

McBoatface

Lionheart - you could even take 'The' as a new middle name for an added dimension!

or maybe Tumnus? 😂

Like others I was going to suggest a place name.

I changed my surname a few years ago, I changed it to my then partners name as we were getting married, but I wanted my professional quals to be in that name. I kept the name though as I didn’t ever want to have my old surname again, and I didn’t see the point of changing my surname again.

Mrs Bouquet

I always think it's nice to keep family names where possible - I'd start at your mother's maiden name and grandparents etc then work back until you find something that clicks for you.

Firsttimecaller · 18/10/2023 23:18

"Surname" oh the fun filling in forms, again, for fun you could pronounce it differently: Sir-ny-mee?
Seriously though you don't have to tell us your first name but maybe tell us how many syllables and does it have consonants or vowels at start and end. You'll want something that sounds nice altogether.

I remember coming across a scientist called Saskia Sanderson and thought it sounded very glamorous. Upon seeing her at a conference, she was indeed a very glam lady. I like the name.

Also previous posters names I like:
Darling
Cavendish

I also like
van der [something fancy sounding] Haas?
Ashbourne

Potter!

I bet you'd rarely have to spell that.

Good morning helpful name suggesters!

First name is a very normal well-known two-syllable beginning with L.

Is it Lucy?

Lucy Lastic would be brilliant! 😉😂

Or Lucy Lockett 😄

And I always liked Lucy Honeychurch 😍

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 18/10/2023 23:31

Heritage

I know a family of this name and love it!

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 18/10/2023 23:34

deWinters

That reminds me of 'Dr Wallington P. De Wynter Courtney Claibourne Magillicuddy Walters' - the producer of Wake Up To Wogan!

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 18/10/2023 23:36

Laura Love just sounds like an 'adult' actress. Very nice surname, but the alliteration just takes it de trop into murky waters.

Deadringer · 18/10/2023 23:37

I love the name Wilde. Close on its heels would be Darcy or Austen.
