DD fell off bike and hurt

DD (6) slipped in a bit of mud while on her bike and had a bad fall. Hurt inside her bottom lip, a bit of bleeding which stopped after a few mins and her nose had a bit of bleed. She was very shocked and told me straight away she had a headache. She was wearing a helmet and to be honest she didn't hurt her head as far as I'm aware.

I didn't take her to A&E as I didn't think it was that bad, but now a few hours later she keeps telling us she has a headache and a tummy ache. She doesn't seem to have much of an appetite either, although she did have a big gingerbread cookie and an ice cream after the accident.

I don't want to go into A&E really only to be told 6 hours later that she's fine, but I am worried aboit her headache, although I'm not 100% sure what she means by that, as sge dies complain aboit things on her body sometimes that aren't true. However, I can't stop worrying.

Can anyone relate or have any advice? I'm thinking of calling 111, but in my experience that never got me anywhere.

Sorry about the typos ...

I'd take her to be checked. I'd be a bit concerned about the tummy pain.

LIZS · 15/10/2023 17:31

Did she catch the frame or handlebars? Worth getting checked out.

Utterlypeanuterly · 15/10/2023 17:32

Did you see the fall?

No, she didn't...she basically fell flat on the side of her bike.
@Utterlypeanuterly why her tummy in particular?

Did the handlebar bang her tummy? Might be worth getting her checked out in case she's damaged something internally. Unlikely, I know, but could be serious.

I was right behind her on my scooter. I didn't think the fall was that bad until I saw her mouth bleeding, I though she fell on her hands at first

She must have hit her head else wouldn't have had a nosebleed. I would be getting her checked tbh. She's consistently telling you she has the same pain and you know she had an accident. Yes, I'd think tummy could have caught on the handlebars as the bike fell?

Utterlypeanuterly · 15/10/2023 17:35

I know of a child who fell off their bike and had some unexpected internal injuries.

PersephonePig · 15/10/2023 17:35

I'd take her to minor injuries if you have one. Understand wanting to avoid A&E

I don't think so, but I don't remember everything now as I was very upset and I don't remember all the details

Oh no! 😔

Just call 111 if you are unsure, that's what they are there for.

Yes, she hit her chin basically and a bit of her nose

Thank you everyone, we have a walk in centre nearby so I'll take her there

I also know of a child who fell off her bike and injured her pancreas (I think?)

Singleandproud · 15/10/2023 17:39

I'd take her otherwise you'll be worrying all evening (and most of the football and rugby injuries should have cleared A&E now). She must have hit her head as she hurt her face and although she had her helmet on it might be the inside of that that's hurt her.

She might not be able to correctly identify where the pain is but she knows something doesn't feel right.

Mustbethat123456789 · 15/10/2023 17:41

She doesn't seem to have any bruises on her body either, she sort of fell lightly on her knees and touched the floor with her chin.

OP posts:
oohsharon · 15/10/2023 17:43

You were very upset to the point you can't remember it all but she only lightly touched the floor with her knees and chin?

I'd take her to be checked.

SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 15/10/2023 17:48

I hope it's nothing but you'll never forgive yourself if it's not

Mustbethat123456789 · 15/10/2023 18:22

We are at the walk in centre waiting for a Dr. She's been checked by a nurse for now

UpUpUpU · 15/10/2023 18:26

Check her helmet fits and is worn correctly too. My son mountain bikes and has had a couple of heaven head first fallls and his helmet has always saved his lips and nose as the front of the helmet takes the brunt of the floor.
hope she’s ok

NotFastButFurious · 15/10/2023 18:31

Yes @UpUpUpU the number of people who wear their helmet so badly fitted that it would be useless if they fell off is unbelievable! If there’s a chance it’s had an impact when she fell you should bin it and buy a new one.

Oblomov23 · 15/10/2023 18:33

It is doubtful that she's hurt herself seriously though, surely?

Mustbethat123456789 · 15/10/2023 21:02

Thank you all. She's been checked by a dr and he said she's fine, but of course we need to keep an eye on her. Her teeth haven't been affected, he nose had a bit of dry blood inside but nothing is broken.

No bruises on her body either apart from a little one of her right knee which has become more prominent in the evening.
