Just for sat night chat, what job do you think holds the biggest kudos? I think probably a medical consultant or barrister... what do you think...

A lot of job titles sound fancy. I'm a geoenvironmental engineer but no one ever really knows what I actually do.
I'm impressed by people who do things in care/hospital. Paramedics and other rescue services. I did first aid courses and the thought of having to use it in a situation terrified me. Literally life or death is a lot

does this sound accurate ?

A geoenvironmental engineer is a special kind of engineer who helps with things that involve nature and building. They look at how building and roads might affect the environment, like the land and the water. They check to make sure the environment stays safe when people build things.

@Shopgirl1 familiarity breeds contempt. 😂

I met a commercial pilot on holiday and I was able to verify he was genuine. We had loads in common, we were attracted to each other and I must admit, his job made him much more attractive than a bog standard job would have done. Shallow me. But ultimately he demonstrated some red flags I could not ignore so it went nowhere. But very occasionally part of me thinks- what if?

Spy - If anyone's interested there's a true story here about a man who infiltrated the British Fascists in WW II. Fascinating stuff. Just an ordinary bloke called Jack. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0fqnlz5

Midwife

Palliative nurses and carers

Undertaker

Writer

Vet

Fire person

Police detective

Nun

Anthropologist

Now that might be a good dinner party!

As a rule I am more impressed by how a person is in themselves, rather than their role in the economy. Some of the most interesting people don't have a fancy job title or career, or sometimes even a job. However, doubtless specialisms bring their own stories and experiences that are fairly unique.

History's Secret Heroes - 9. Jack King and the Fifth Column - BBC Sounds

A bank worker from Surrey joins MI5. His job is to infiltrate British Fascists.

Yeah. I do site investigations to check for contamination. We also do noise monitoring to see how developments can affect it and testing for foundation and drainage design.
The best one was an odour survey, I stood in a field and sniffed every 30 seconds and noted how strong the smell from the sewage works was 😂

WombatBombat · 14/10/2023 23:21

I know too many nuclear physicists with little to no common sense to be too impressed.

When I worked in construction, one guy was the Erections Director.

Wow. There is so much wrong with your post. I suspect you are looking for a reaction though so I won't be engaging any further other than fucking shame on you.

NashvilleQueen · 14/10/2023 23:22

Surgeon?

NashvilleQueen · 14/10/2023 23:24

Crystallographer is one of the prettiest.

NashvilleQueen · 14/10/2023 23:26

That would be my least impressive. Lefty loon who basically spends all our tax on migrants who should be at home working towards making their home better

Nice

ShutTheFrontDoor · 14/10/2023 23:28

thats very true, its like the phrase do you want to speak to the person in charge or the person that actually knows whats, what, and chances are its the personal assistant that is the true "boss"

LeefsPrings · 14/10/2023 23:30

I always did think my circle of friends and acquaintances was a weird one, and this thread proves it because quite a few of my friends' job titles have been mentioned!

Japanesejazz · 14/10/2023 23:32

Barristers are self employed and most earn less than minimum wage
also their legal trainees and their clients solicitors do most of the work for them

so its nothing like the large salaries commanded in the show the good wife ?

longestlurkerever · 14/10/2023 23:34

We had a day where you come in and talk about your job to the kids at school. First parent up was "air ambulance pilot". Kind of killed the whole project tbh!

Ribidibidibidoobahday · 14/10/2023 23:36

I saw an advert for "Dragon Hunter" once. It was studying newts for an amphibian charity. I think that's quite an impressive job title.

longestlurkerever · 14/10/2023 23:38

Oh and one of my colleagues is a "former zoo keeper" which always makes me boggle a bit as they packed it in for something quite ordinary.
