Who's awake? And why?

burntoutnurse · 13/10/2023 00:46

I can't sleep.

Life has been exhausting the last few weeks for numerous reasons, health, work, my son's MH, teenagers. Insomnia.

I'm missing my DP a lot tonight, he works away. Has been gone for 4 weeks and he could be gone for another 4 weeks. He could be gone for another 8 weeks.

Why are you awake?

Sending love into the ether for all of you who need it. Flowers

I’m awake because - completely out of character - my youngest who is a preteen was awake with the light on watching something on the iPad, and claimed they thought it was 7am. Very weird. Tucked back in and white noise on but historically DC finds it hard to get off to sleep so now I’m awake wondering if they’re still awake. And my DH is snoring, and the cats keep fighting over where to sit by/on me. And last few nights the dog has been randomly barking sometimes. And I’ve got a sore throat coming on and there’s loads of Covid about apparently, or other undesirably nasty things. And my DH is useless when I’m sick as he then gets sicker (of course) which is infuriating but also he gets very woe is me which is worse. Better check on DC now…

I can't sleep because it was my mum's funeral this afternoon, I really miss her & I know it sounds childish but I just want her back.

fridaynight1 · 13/10/2023 02:21

I’m awake because I’ve just come to bed. I never come up to bed until I start yawning. There is no point stressing and trying to sleep if you’re not ready for it. I’ll read through all the active threads and then I’ll switch off my phone and go to sleep.
I’ve realised that quality sleep beats quantity. Best to have 4 hours quality sleep than 8 hours tossing and turning.
It’s raining here and I love the sound of the rain on the window,
Nite nite.

So sorry for your loss. It's not childish at all xx 💔

I had white wine yesterday and it's not agreeing with me. Heartburn. Time I stopped drinking it. It even smelt funny.

itsmakingmesosad · 13/10/2023 02:40

I'm awake. My mum died a few hours ago and even though I'm exhausted I just can't sleep,

Tentaculoose · 13/10/2023 02:48

@itsmakingmesosad, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum. Was it expected or sudden? Though neither is any easier. Hope you manage to get to sleep at some point :)

SussexBonfireViking · 13/10/2023 02:53

I'm up, because I'm in Houston Texas for work.

Having a wonderful team, the team in the office here are amazing, so bloody friendly!

I've eaten my body weight in steak, driven all over the place.

itsmakingmesosad · 13/10/2023 02:53

@Tentaculoose it was sudden. She has been unwell(cancer) but her passing was sudden and unexpected so soon

SussexBonfireViking · 13/10/2023 02:56

So sorry to anyone here having a hard time, I hope I haven't upset anyone, I only replied to the first link

Sorry

Intensiv14 · 13/10/2023 02:58

DH woke me up 2 hrs ago and I can’t get back off. I had a rubbish sleep last night too, but that’s Peri menopause for you.

FinallyMrsT · 13/10/2023 02:59

I'm on a nightshift. I am 16 weeks pregnant and the urge to close my eyes is so real. Our break room is freezing and not suitable for breaks on a night and so I am just here, trying to stay awake

SensitiveB · 13/10/2023 03:01

Sending love to everyone with sadness to carry; I am really sorry. I wonder if you can open a favourite book and distract yourself to help you sleep.
i wake every night as breastfeeding 1 year old but then I’m dreadful at looking at the news etc. and make myself even more tired.

FinallyMrsT · 13/10/2023 03:06

Sending lots of hugs to all those going through a rough time right now.

PinkPlantCase · 13/10/2023 03:14

We found out today that baby is measuring very small. We need to wait another 2 weeks to find out if they are small but growing or small because they aren’t growing. I’m just under 35 weeks.

I had a Homebirth with my first baby and planned for the same with this one. We’ll have to wait and see 😞 it’s a lot to take in that baby may need to come earlier than expected and not in the way we had hoped for.

I need to convince myself to go and find my headphones, hopefully with some music I’ll be able to get back off to sleep.

I'm on anti depressants, I'm always up at random times of the night for hours and hours...

Not childish. I remember that feeling after about a week where you haven't spoken to your mum for an unusually long time and you just want to talk to her now.

Hottytotty · 13/10/2023 03:27

I’m awake because I’m writing up a PhD thesis. The procrastination when facing the blank screen to write is terrible (I’ve never had such a clean house!), so when I get on a bit of a roll I’m scared to stop! Luckily DC are with their dad so I don’t need to get up for the school run tomorrow…
Solidarity with everyone having a tough time. @lookingforMolly - it isn’t childish at all. My DM died almost 12 years ago and I still just want her back (but it does get easier with time).

Doro371 · 13/10/2023 03:29

I'm so sorry to hear about all your losses and sorrows.
I feel a bit silly because my worry is so insignificant in comparison, but my son (10) is going on a class trip for three days next week and he cried a lot about it yesterday. He is worried that he will be homesick and he doesn't like his (very new) teacher and doesn't think he could talk to her when he is feeling bad.
I know he (and I...) will just have to suck it up (strong case of pfb) but he usually is such a happy little guy and seeing him cry so much really upset me 😕

Aria999 · 13/10/2023 03:30

I'm only awake because I live in America and it's only 10:30pm. Going to bed soon.

@burntoutnurse that is a long time not to have your DP. My DH has had 2 trips of 20 days in relatively quick succession and I'm going a bit crazy. Back tomorrow night all being well. Though I haven't heard from him the last couple days which is probably fine and normal but always makes me worry (what if there was a car crash etc)

Marveladdict · 13/10/2023 03:31

Working a night shift - hope you managed to get some sleep

Aria999 · 13/10/2023 03:31

*10 days not 20.

Libre2 · 13/10/2023 03:36

I am so sorry for all of you with losses and worries and stresses. I am up because DS (14) has type 1 diabetes. We have the most amazing tech to deal with it, for which I am eternally grateful, but we had a tech failure tonight at 2am. So I had to wake him and basically fire a needle into his arm, poor kid. It's a lot to deal with on a day-to-day basis and crap when it impacts on sleep.

Longlive · 13/10/2023 03:42

Been ill with covid all week and done nothing but sleep, now the cough is keeping me awake

Helpmeimtired · 13/10/2023 03:47

My 9 month old has COVID and doesn’t want to sleep out of my arms bless him. Currently watching him on the monitor hoping he’ll drift off.
