Would you see Six the Musical with adult friends?

Just that really. Would we enjoy it? Or is it really just one for the kids and tween/teenagers?

I'm about as far from a 'Prosecco hun' as you can get.. huge musical fan, go to popular and unpopular ones and I really enjoyed SIX! , as did my Dh and our adult kids.
I think while the costumes might appeal to children, the subject matter won't, and it has been mostly adults every time I have seen it (3 x)

Like every musical..some love it, some think it's terrible. You couldn't pay me to sit through 'We will Rock You' again ever, as the plot was so utterly dreadful, but some people love it... we all like different things!

I'm 42 and went to see it with my mum earlier this year. We love all sorts of musicals and really liked Six even if our journey each way took longer than the musical lasted. Blush

We're seeing Priscilla later this month (with friends of mine), and were meant to go to The King and I together but it was cancelled so we planned a trip to the orchestra last week with my dad instead. DH and I have been to a few musicals together as well, our last one was Les Mis in London and we've just been discussing if we want to go see it again when it tours.

Yes, it's a great show for adults.

It’s not for children. It’s very much for adults. I loved it and have seen it twice and would happily go again. It’s very clever.

AmadeustheAlpaca · 12/10/2023 20:19

I wouldn’t. The writers refused to appear on Graham Norton”s radio show as ‘transphobic’ JKR would be there as well. Listened to some of the songs on Spotify and to me they are unmemorable.

BusySittingDown · 12/10/2023 20:22

I saw it with DH, I loved it, he hated it but I KNEW it wouldn't be his cup of tea. I did tell him beforehand that he wouldn't like it - he likes musicals but Six is more like a girl band concert.

It's a terrible musical, the only adults I can see enjoying it are typical Prosecco huns.

I hate Prosecco and am no one's hun but I enjoyed it and found it quite moving.

lavenderlou · 12/10/2023 20:29

Took my older DC to an evening performance and they were almost the only kids there. It's actually not really suitable for younger kids and fine for a group of adults.

Please tell me what a 'Prosecco Hun' is......sounds fun!

I really enjoyed it and went with adult friends and my DH.

Once I get a definition of 'Prosecco Hun' I'll feedback as to whether that describes us ..... although I imagine DH might be a bit miffed as prosecco really isn't his thing 🤷🏼‍♀️

GCSister · 12/10/2023 20:35

Maybe that was the problem? They were a bit harsh on the guy.

😂😂 well he's not really known for being an all round good guy and model husband is he?

UsingChangeofName · 12/10/2023 21:04

I had it booked for 2020. So, with covid postponements it was a while before I did, but there weren't any kids there that I noticed. I mean, there probably were some there, but it isn't aimed at kids, and I think they'd miss a lot of the cleverness and 'wit' of the words.
Totally normal to go with other adults.

It is disappointingly short, but otherwise excellent.

minipie · 12/10/2023 15:38

I can see why you might think that if you knew nothing about the history and didn’t listen to the cleverness of the lyrics.

It's partly because I of my love of history that I hate it.

Nishky32 · 12/10/2023 15:39

Exactly this. If you don’t understand the references…..

Well my MA was in ecclesiastical history but that's not to say I have no interest in early modern history, there is an overlap.

lazarusb · 12/10/2023 21:33

Don't worry, I will 😂

kikisparks · 12/10/2023 21:36

I really enjoyed it, musicals for me are a bit of escapism, I love a good plot which isn’t really the focus of Six but the outfits, staging, catchy tunes and clever lyrics were enjoyable, it does have serious themes though including the childhood sexual abuse of Catherine Howard so I wouldn’t say it’s suitable for children. It would possibly go over their heads though.

LittleGreenDuck · 12/10/2023 21:51

I saw it with DD when she was 11. We both really enjoyed it, though I don't think it would be suitable for children much younger than that. A lot of the innuendo went over her head.

She likes Appletise, I prefer a cup of tea. No Prosecco.

SpicedAppleAndFreshCider · 12/10/2023 18:28

Enjoy and ignore the patronising poster who said it was for huns who drink prosecco.

Don't worry, I will. Again, neither of us drink prosecco or would use the word 'hun', (unless talking about Attila the...) 😂

GCSister · 13/10/2023 08:16

@DragonFly98 and therefore you felt the need to insult those who do enjoy it? Nice .....

It's because of my love of history that I enjoyed it.

SpicedAppleAndFreshCider · 13/10/2023 08:24

@DragonFly98 why the need to try and belittle people? You've made yourself look a bit daft.

Yeah - I’m not sure there’s much mileage in a musical about Henry VIII’s soft side

CoffeeWithCheese · 13/10/2023 08:57

I'm going in a couple of weeks - I know the songs fairly well from listening to it in the car and I know full-well what I've bought into in terms of length, not being a "proper" musical etc etc. DH is keen to go as well.

I hate Prosecco.

Also have a couple of other more "proper" musicals booked on the same break.
