Would you see Six the Musical with adult friends?

Just that really. Would we enjoy it? Or is it really just one for the kids and tween/teenagers?

I can see why you might think that if you knew nothing about the history and didn’t listen to the cleverness of the lyrics.

I agree.

Like Anne Boleyn (c)rapping about not being into politics? Utterly dire.

LeviOsaNotLeviosaa · 12/10/2023 16:12

I'm slightly concerned about the people who think it is "aimed" at children. It is not, and they clearly didn't understand the messaging.

Children/teens can appreciate it, but I doubt children would understand the intricacies of what the musical is meant to convey.

That said, it's brilliant and I highly recommend it.

Tell me you missed the point, without telling me you missed the point.

I went with a group of adults and loved it.

Twiglets1 · 12/10/2023 16:18

I did see this recently with an adult friend and it was aimed at adults I would say. A bit trashy, not that good tbh. And this is coming from a huge Henry V111 fan.

Maybe that was the problem? They were a bit harsh on the guy.

FanFckingTastic · 12/10/2023 16:18

I've been twice - once with friends and once with tween DD. Enjoyed it both times. Music is very catchy and lyrics are clever. It's great entertainment, which to me is what a musical is all about.

BeautifulWar · 12/10/2023 16:19

Probably because it's so shouty!

weebarra · 12/10/2023 16:20

I have seen it with DD, but even though she's a tween, she's a total Tudor buff, as am I!

Hbh17 · 12/10/2023 16:23

I went with an adult friend, and I was very much underwhelmed. It is a downmarket Spice Girls rip off, not proper musical theatre at all, in my view.
If you want to go to a London show, there are many better offerings.
However, lots of adults do seem to like "Six", so I think you and your friends need to do your homework to decide whether it would be your 'thing'.
Personally, I'd be booking "Guys and Dolls", which is completely wonderful!

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 12/10/2023 16:57

I would and did. Felt a bit ripped off as it was so short (80 minutes and the last 10 are just a medley of all the songs you’ve already heard!) Enjoyed it though.

reluctantbrit · 12/10/2023 17:33

I saw it 3 times now, all with teen DD. I would say there is a large amount of teens and a couple of 9-12 year olds but the majority was adults, more women then men though.

I personally think the actual story is too much for a tween, they like the songs, costumes and dance but don'treally get what is behind the story itself.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed it but as DD is now 16 she can finally go on her own if she saves enough for the ticket.

Justbetweenus · 12/10/2023 15:23

To me, it felt squarely aimed at kids and audience included plenty of kids when we saw it. It’s also pretty short. I wouldn’t recommend it to friends but it depends what you’re after.

It’s really not. It’s clever and has a lot of innuendo. Short means nothing. Cone From Away is the same length. It’s not a kid’s show, though teenagers might well enjoy it.

It's a terrible musical, the only adults I can see enjoying it are typical Prosecco huns.

Well you’re wrong there. I’m a proper musical theatre geek, not a hun, like musicals most have never heard of and really enjoyed Six. It’s clever.

Bit harsh on a man who had his wives killed?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 12/10/2023 17:58

I’ve seen it twice and there were way more adults there than kids at evening performances. Matinees are probably more child heavy but not with little kids as the lyrics are quite adult at times and rather clever IMO.

Yes.

Could you explain why you think that @Twiglets1 ?
He’s pretty universally considered a shit by historians, isn’t he?

Jesus, it was a tongue in cheek comment

cardibach · 12/10/2023 18:02

So why not say so in your first reply? It’s a bit odd to make a comment, defend it, and then suggest it was a joke I missed…

lazarusb · 12/10/2023 18:04

My daughter in law and I are planning to go and see it over the Christmas holidays. Really looking forward to it.

Enjoy and ignore the patronising poster who said it was for huns who drink prosecco.

Needmorelego · 12/10/2023 18:42

I've seen it twice with my daughter. She's 15, I'm 48. There were more my age in the audience both times. I think it's great. I learned more of the 6 womens history ("herstory") in that 80 or so minutes than I ever did at school.
I've also never drunk prosecco or called anyone "hun" in my life 😂

Ashleysaidwhat · 12/10/2023 18:48

I have seen it 3 times totally love it. Been with 3 different groups of friends and none of us are Prosecco huns 🙄
