If you bounce out of bed at 6/6.30....

What time do you go to bed? How do you manage if you have any health conditions?

I'm exhausted. Struggle every morning. Have had a bad habit if stating up roo late (stress related, and also child free time, single parent).

But even with going to bed earlier I'm still exhausted. Every morning my alarms goes off at 6.30 and most days I struggle out if bed an hour later. And rush. And be late.

To add, I have anaemia and hypothyroidism. I'm also overweight.

6am alarm.
Bed by 10, lights out 10 30 is manageable. If it creeps much past that, I'm tired the next day.
But I don't have health conditions to deal with.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 11/10/2023 15:09

I wouldn't say I bounce out of bed but I do generally wake up around 6ish and get up around 6.30ish to exercise before work. I'm often ready for bed around 8.30/9, tend to go up and scroll on my phone for a while, generally asleep around 10ish. Hypothyroid but well controlled.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 11/10/2023 15:10

I wake naturally btw, alarm is set for 7 but I always seem to be awake before that these days.

Whataretheodds · 11/10/2023 15:12

I don't at the moment but when I did:
No caffeine after noon
No screens after 9 30 (10 at a pinch)
Hot/warm bath or shower then reading before bed
Not dehydrated
Carbs and protein for dinner
Daily fresh air and some kind of exercise

AceofPentacles · 11/10/2023 15:14

I'm asleep before 10.
I have perimenopause insomnia so don't often sleep well but I am ready to get up by 6.

Neverfeelwell · 11/10/2023 15:16

Is your hypothyroidism not controlled?

Your weight may be contributing to your tiredness I’m afraid, staying up too late definitely will be.
If you have only recently started treatment for your anaemia then you should soon feel better once your levels increase.
I do have hypothyroidism, I have also been on ferrous fumerate for years or I end up anaemic again.
I will just say that low vitamins D and low B12 can be linked to hypothyroidism. I have both deficiencies so have b12 injections and I’m on prescription vitamin D. Both of those can also cause fatigue so it might be worth asking the GP to check those, folate too as that also causes fatigue.

I can be in bed by 6:30, not necessarily to sleep but just resting & maybe reading. Lights out by 10pm.

Yes you need to address the thyroid issues i think. I'm in good health just with menopause symptoms, and in answer to your question, bed and reading by 9.30 latest and up at 5.30, maybe 6 if im not working

AuntieMarys · 11/10/2023 15:19

In bed by 9 most nights...Read for half an hour. Dh gets up at 4.30!

MidnightOnceMore · 11/10/2023 15:20

I have anaemia and hypothyroidism Generic advice is not going to help - you need these to be treated!

VeridicalVagabond · 11/10/2023 15:24

Oh bless you OP, I don't think it's going to help you to hear I go to bed between 11 and 1am most nights and manage to pop up well rested and bright eyed at 6am.

You've got so much going on, any wonder you're exhausted. Are you getting treatment for the anaemia and hypothyroidism? Those won't be helping at all! But it sounds more like stress and burnout, and in my experience no amount of sleep can lift that kind of exhaustion. What help and support do you have in general?

TulipTuesday · 11/10/2023 15:25

Wow some people go to bed really early! I’m up at 6:30am during the week (I love a lie in at the weekends)
My normal routine is to go upstairs somewhere between 10:45 and 11pm, grab a quick shower, get in to bed, waste time on my phone or read for a bit, then aim to close my eyes by midnight.

I’ve never been great at getting up in the morning but I don’t feel tired during the day.

Yep. See the doctor for a medication review OP. Although I don't think many people spring out of bed at 6am. I don't do any springing before 7.

devildeepbluesea · 11/10/2023 15:29

I’m awake for 6 and up around 6.30. If I’m not having a drink I’ll be in bed by 8.30 latest, lights out by 9.30 latest. In the last few years I prefer to listen to audiobooks or the radio, rather than watch tv - and I much prefer lying down to sitting!! I love bedtime.

Goldenboysmum · 11/10/2023 15:32

Usually up by 5.30 latest, go to bed around 11.30, fall asleep straight away.

Wake about 1/1.5 hours later then toss and turn all night.

Constantly tired, but been like this since my son died, cant see it getting any better, although its better than what it was! No health conditions.

Hillrunning · 11/10/2023 15:33

Bed at 9.30 for a 6.10 start 3ach morning. Later than that and I don't feel good.

Hbh17 · 11/10/2023 15:33

I don't "bounce" but I can get up approx 6.15am for work.
Bed by 10pm, lights out 10.30ish. No alcohol if work the next day. I always set an alarm, although I usually wake before it goes off.
Also, I don't rush in the morning - I like to have breakfast and a browse thru the papers online for half an hour or so. I won't leave the house until about 7.45am..... rushing just makes early mornings much worse, imo.

Myneighboursarewankers · 11/10/2023 15:38

I’m normally in bed for 12ish and I’m up just before 6 and always wide awake although I do have ADHD which I think really helps with the aliveness in the morning. DH struggles too though no matter how much sleep he’s had.

for me iv learnt over the years that any more than 5-6 hours of sleep for me and I feel absolutely awful.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/10/2023 15:42

5.40 alarm. Up at 5.45 if I'm working. Start work at 7. Go to bed around 10.

EfficientlyDecluttering · 11/10/2023 15:45

Bed between 11 and 12, up between 6.30 and 7 but no known health conditions. No caffeine and only very occasional alcohol.

Bubbles254 · 11/10/2023 15:55

I naturally wake up at 4.30/5am ish and am wide awake. I go to bed at 9.30pm and am asleep within 5 minutes. I would still wake this early if I went to bed later so I make sure I go to bed early so I don't get overtired.

I am not sure if the early wakings are linked to peri menopause or my body just being used to regular early wakings by my autistic son.

HAF1119 · 11/10/2023 15:56

I get up at 5am and I do go to bed between 8 and 9 every day and try to be asleep not long after 9! I guess going to bed 8.5 to 9 hours before the alarm will go off generally is what I try to do (though obviously varies!)

crumblycrust · 11/10/2023 16:17

"To add, I have anaemia and hypothyroidism. I'm also overweight" – start there?

But anyway, as a quick fix answer, I also feel my body is breaking down. I bring coffee in a thermos next to my bed the night before, for when the alarm goes off. There are timed coffee machines/dispensers too.

Decafflatteplease · 11/10/2023 16:30

I also have hypothyroidism and am overweight (by about 5 stone). Honestly I see such a difference in my ability to get up on time when my thyroid levels are good. So at the moment I'm on the right dose and feeling good, but when my tsh is too high it's so hard to get up.

I aim to be asleep by 11.30 so try to get 7 hours sleep. Ideally I'd be asleep by 10.30 but I have so much to fit in once the DC are asleep at 9 that 10.30 feels a rush

BomeleeBay · 11/10/2023 16:33

Lights out at 11pm for a 6.45am alarm as that is when my body should be in a light sleep meaning I am not being woken from a deep sleep. But then I am a morning person, out of bed, open the curtains and both blinds (I like it pitch black) then fling open a window too.

I also agree to get back to your GP.
