...before you read it in my title?

I've got tickets and am madly excited, was commenting to a friend about an issue wrt transport - she knows I am a massive athletics fan.

She said, oh, is there something big in Paris next summer? I was a bit 😮and asked if she was joking, but she also asked a couple of other ppl and they also had no idea.

So, pretty lighthearted really, obv not life or death, more of a straw poll of Sunday MN - did you know? It's a mahooosive deal in my house and also a lot of my circle- but then a number of those people are big on athletics like me.

@XelaM, yes you get selected for a specific role and location. I got event services (the people with foam hands who give you information and guidance around a venue) which I am excited to have as a 'front of house' role (though my back of house role at the Commonwealth games was really fun), but at a not very thrilling venue. No accommodation yet, the experienced volunteers tell me you hold your nerve and then student halls open up - a hotel would be really expensive for a week on your own

This is amazing! You'll see so many of the athletes probably just walking around 🤩

@swedesnow tbf the 2020 Olympics were held in 2021 bc Covid so that was only two years ago.

No need to watch if you don’t want to tho, plenty of other options

Yes I know but lets be honest sports are shoved down our throats and Olympic coverage disrupts normal service so it is a drag for people like me with zero interest. Its also the expectation that we should all be super excited about a massively expensive, environmentally harmful, potentially exploitative event that celebrates what? A bunch of people running, jumping, throwing stuff etc, does it really warrant all that fuss and waste?

booked our trains thanks OP. Crazy prices though. £446 return for 2 went up to £486 while booking. Also going on the first train out on the day we have tickets for so hope we can get there!!!

Ah yes I have lavishly booked hotel for the day before so we can take (cheaper) train that gets in 6pm. Quite pleased with what I paid for Eurostar looking at price now!

We are travelling afternoon both ways. Friday to Monday. The Monday return price was much higher than the outward leg. We have tickets for the Pentathlon on the Sunday.

🙄Of course it's so easy to do what these incredible athletes do.... just a bit of throwing, jumping and running... 🙄🙄🙄🙄How is it better to watch talentless zelebrities that are on our screens all the time anyway than to celebrate incredible achievements by these fantastic athletes?! I'm sure you will find channels that don't cover the Olympics to watch.
