Dud you know the Olympics are in Paris next year?

I've got tickets and am madly excited, was commenting to a friend about an issue wrt transport - she knows I am a massive athletics fan.

She said, oh, is there something big in Paris next summer? I was a bit 😮and asked if she was joking, but she also asked a couple of other ppl and they also had no idea.

So, pretty lighthearted really, obv not life or death, more of a straw poll of Sunday MN - did you know? It's a mahooosive deal in my house and also a lot of my circle- but then a number of those people are big on athletics like me.

Yes, I am really looking forward to it, I love it when the Olympics are in the same time zone as the UK. I hope there is masses of tv coverage.

Yes, I knew about it, as I've been following their efforts to get the River Seine clean enough so that they can hold some of the swimming events in central Paris. I don't think they have quite managed it yet.
I'm not in the slightest bit interested in sports, but if I were going, I'd be taking a bug proof silk sleeping bag with me to use in my hotel.

Can't wait! We're going for 2 weeks, have accommodation and 13 events booked. We're also at the London athletics meet a few weeks before.

I have tickets and an apartment booked.

Just waiting for Eurostar to open their booking site for tickets. And wondering how much they will ramp up the price. 🤔

Unfortunately failed to get tickets for any of my sports (gymnastics, breaking, skateboarding) but got tickets to netball which is in the stadium at the foot of the Eiffel Tower... so quite excited!

I could guess from the number that it’s going to be an Olympic year and I read about bedbugs on BBC where Olympics in Paris was mentioned but these 2 pieces were in my brain in different compartments.
Elections are a big thing at this house, Olympics - not so much.

I know but only because of the bed bugs coverage. I’m not a sports fan and never watched the Olympics.

I knew the next Olympics was Paris... but its come around fast! But obviously last Olympics was delayed... and it is a year off still...

I knew it was next year and I enjoy watching it and plan to when it is on. But I hadn't considered where it was or really which month yet but I knew I'd become aware nearer to the time.

Yes but I’m a bit of an Olympics and athletics geek. Tried and failed to get reasonably priced tickets but looking forward to watching from home.

I did know! In fact, I have just come back from Paris and there were some large billboards advertising the gymnastics and lots of the buildings covered ready for cleaning prior to the event. It’s going to be amazing, I love the Olympics

Yes, hoping to be a volunteer - the emails started going out September 20th, but end of offers is December 20th so still a long time to wait!

No, I didn't. I had heard about bed bugs but hadn't actually read anything about it so still didn't connect that with the Olympics.

Yes I knew. Was offered tickets back in the year but I can't justify accommodation and travel costs now 😔

Got weightlifting tickets, but can’t figure out the accommodation. Not a traveler so trying to figure it all out is very daunting.

Yes of course. Love live sporting events. Was brought up watching lots of sports especially the Olympics. If I want to I can go down to my parents and watch my dad's videos of the Moscow 80 and Los Angeles 84 Olympics any time I like! Watched parts of every Olympics since I was 4 years old! (Munich)

Looking forward to Paris - athletics and the rest. Grin

I love the Olympics and I am another one who is glad it is on at "our " time.
