Dud you know the Olympics are in Paris next year?

...before you read it in my title?

I've got tickets and am madly excited, was commenting to a friend about an issue wrt transport - she knows I am a massive athletics fan.

She said, oh, is there something big in Paris next summer? I was a bit 😮and asked if she was joking, but she also asked a couple of other ppl and they also had no idea.

So, pretty lighthearted really, obv not life or death, more of a straw poll of Sunday MN - did you know? It's a mahooosive deal in my house and also a lot of my circle- but then a number of those people are big on athletics like me.

@JayAlfredPrufrock By bank transfer or cc? Can understand they need it upfront to avoid late cancellations.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 18/10/2023 15:35

Bank transfer I think. To be honest I’m glad I’ve paid as otherwise I’d worry they’d cancel on me. Of course they still might.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/10/2023 15:48

I didn't know

clary · 18/10/2023 16:07

Yeh I paid in full. By bank transfer as the total was over my CC limit 😮tho admittedly the limit is ridiculously low.

Finger hovering over the Eurostar booking in three weeks!

Yes, we're also awaiting Eurostar bookings opening. Seem to have sorted hotel payment now.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 18/10/2023 16:20

I’ve got a reminder set on my phone. How much do you reckon they’ll hike the prices by?

I dread to think. But air is also £££ so at least the train is easier. For us very easy tbh. Also I have built in a buffer day each end so we are fine to travel at unpopular times, like late afternoon to go.

I got the notification today that I'll be volunteering, so now I need to search for accommodation!

XelaM · 03/11/2023 09:14

UPDATE (not that anyone is interested 😂 but thought I'd share my excitement) I have tickets! Well, not yet for the show jumping, as the mark-up on the tickets on the re-sale site was 5x the price of the ticket 🫣but at least I now have official tickets (rather than dodgy resale ones) to a few of the athletics finals and have accommodation booked 😃 Very excited! Does anyone know when the Eurostar tickets come out? My daughter wants to combine it with a trip to Disneyland as well 😳 It's going to be an expensive summer!

@CMOTDibbler So cool that you'll be a volunteer! How amazing 🤩 Are you told which event? Do you get free accommodation?

JayAlfredPrufrock · 03/11/2023 09:17

7th November

Scalottia · 03/11/2023 09:37

Yes I knew but I have no interest in watching, but good for you OP for getting tickets - enjoy! 🙂

I do have an interest in never seeing the word 'mahoosive' ever again in my life however.

CMOTDibbler · 03/11/2023 09:51

@XelaM, yes you get selected for a specific role and location. I got event services (the people with foam hands who give you information and guidance around a venue) which I am excited to have as a 'front of house' role (though my back of house role at the Commonwealth games was really fun), but at a not very thrilling venue. No accommodation yet, the experienced volunteers tell me you hold your nerve and then student halls open up - a hotel would be really expensive for a week on your own

clary · 03/11/2023 15:13

Ooh thanks @XelaM i have just been able to add another athletics session to our stay, fabulous!

Same! Managed to get the times to suit us tho - didn’t think it was too bad, paid £84 and £74 but I suppose in June it would be £49!

I heard it on the radio the other day and thought, didn't we just have the Olympics recently? It feels like there is always some big sporting event on which we all have to be excited about because its only once every 4 years. I can't be arsed with any of it, I don't like sport and don't see why we have to have it rammed down our throats all the bloody time.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 07/11/2023 12:14

I worked out for 6 of us it would have been £772 the week before the Olympic period. Ended up paying £1338.

LIZS · 07/11/2023 12:26

Just booking. Prices gone up since we looked earlier Shock

BygoneDays · 08/10/2023 21:40

No….!!!!!
When did that happen? Wow! Has it just been announced? Do the French know yet?

Just reading through the thread and am assuming this is sarcasm. At least I hope so Grin as it would be pretty difficult to organise an Olympics in under a year Grin

megletthesecond · 07/11/2023 12:42

Yes. Of course. Gutted we can't go.

AirFryerFrequentFlyer · 07/11/2023 12:49

Yes, I enjoy watching some sports and it's always so much better when it's in a reasonable time zone to watch live! So I was delighted when it was announced as Paris (years ago obviously but it's been mentioned on a few forums I'm on recently so it's stuck with me).

Los Angeles not so much - matchsticks for eyes if you want to see it live.

Thank you!! Was checking from midnight too and then forgot to check again at 9am 😆

But thankfully I still managed to get tickets for £74 each (although it's at an unsociable hour for the train out - the very first train out at 6:30am).

My daughter has asked to combine it with Disneyland 🤪so we're spending 2 nights in Disneyland first before heading to main Paris for 3 nights.

Everything booked now, except I'm still trying to get tickets for the Show Jumping final on 6 August. 😭 I even contacted the ticket website and they said additional tickets are published regularly, which was very vague. The official resale website will open in spring 2024. Does anyone by any chance know when exactly?

Tanktanktank · 07/11/2023 13:05

No I didn’t
