How has this ring got bent like this overnight???!

It never gets taken off. Is always being twiddled so would have noticed. Fairy heavy silver.
Noticed couldn't move it around this morning and then couldn't take it off at all due to the shape.
Got it off eventually. It's bizarre, had the hand been whacked you'd know about it for it to be so misshapen.

Not lifted anything, or used tools.
Nothing.
Mystery 😲

This is weird, the exact same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. No idea how it happened. But the jeweller fixed it pretty quickly and for free.

Knackeredhamster · 08/10/2023 14:23

Really. Was it overnight?
We've tried just pushing it but it's solid!

It's a silver ring of the om symbol I bought a family member.

Can't get it back on at all without force so won't try, but what I'm saying is it's not happened, like got stepped in and then put in the finger in that shape 😆

Crackers

I did that to a ring by heavy lifting. Had to get it reshaped by a jeweller.

Makes total sense but the person ok my DD hasn't done anything like that.
Her job is very sedentary 😆

Wracking our brains.

I had this happen too except I wasn't wearing the ring. Left it in the bathroom overnight, in the morning it was totally bent out of shape, was convinced someone stood on it or something. My neice who is an iron Smith was there at the time (and knocked it back in shape) said it could have got warm - no idea how, it was overnight and it was summer so no heating... Mysterious!

Knackeredhamster · 08/10/2023 15:12

Very mysterious.

I mean it's like spoon bending but without anything touching it in your case!

Silver is the softest metal. Must have happened in sleep, apparently you clench your hands into a fetal position when deeply asleep

Treecreature · 08/10/2023 15:33

You can use a plant dibber to restore the circle shape. Just push it through the ring and work it up and down.

Knackeredhamster · 08/10/2023 16:17

That's an excellent idea thanks.

Anyone else had this happen?

Aliens abducted you in the night and carried out experiments

AnSolas · 08/10/2023 18:24

Was there a ring on a ajoining finger?

Yes a very fine silver ring which is one of those adjustable ones you can pinch together.
We've checked that for any damage.
You'd expect that one to be mishapen really.

misshapen*

My engagement ring went a bit like this when I caught it on a door handle. Nearly took my finger off with it 🤣

I assume you'd have remembered if that happened though. Very strange.

Dogfureverywhere · 08/10/2023 18:59

Are you missing the chains from your grandfather clock too? 👻

Knackeredhamster · 08/10/2023 20:08

Haha I immediately thought of grandfather clock chaingate when my daughter showed me the ring.

It's just bizarre. She really wishes she can remember doing something like bashing it or yanking something but nothing.

Some metals become very soft from body heat and are misshapened very easily.

Knackeredhamster · 09/10/2023 07:59

Like over time then they just bend one night? Never knew that could happen.

OP posts:
Neekoh · 09/10/2023 12:07

Silver is extremely soft and can be easily bent without much force at all.

Itsaloadofbollocks · 09/10/2023 12:14

Yes I had this happen with my engagement ring. Went to bed wearing it and it was fine, woke up the next morning with it bent out of shape.
It was 9ct gold.

@FlowerPower12345 I’m so glad I’m not the only one who’s had an issue with a door handle 😂😂 And you’re right, the whole bloody finger nearly went with it 😂
