Has anyone got this hideous cold doing the rounds?

Pyri · 08/10/2023 11:09

Usually a cold lasts a few days and gives me some sniffles and a headache

This one has been going on for 10 days and is much worse. Shivers, sneezes, sore throat, muscle aches, coughing etc. Not enough to be off work but enough to make me feel exhausted and want to be in bed by 8pm.

it’s not covid. Anyone else got it?

It’ll be the new variant that’s not detected on lateral flows. It’s rank🤮

Allmarbleslost · 08/10/2023 11:12

Yes I'm on day 5. My pelvic floor is not coping well with the constant coughing.

Sunflowersinthewind · 08/10/2023 11:13

I just had this. My god the snot. Thankfully I can work from home so managed to work from sofa which is something I never normally do. Still phlegmy now but very slowly on the mend. Not sure if covid or not but I tested quite a few times and negative.

Other bugs than covid exist right but when they’re bad you assume it could be!

If you have all those symptoms, @Pyri , you should definitely be off work - not least because you’ve probably given it to loads of other people who will now feel just as awful (or worse) as you. It’s bloody selfish and this ridiculous presenteeism needs to stop!
people - stay home if you are unwell! We don’t all want your hideous germs.

i work from home you lemon

You didn’t say that, not even when another poster mentioned they did, so not a lemon. How rude.
‘Off work’ suggests staying away from somewhere to me. If I worked from home I’d have written something like ‘I can still work’.

MrsMariaReynolds · 08/10/2023 11:52

I just called into our local walk-in centre this morning after 13 days of "just a cold" and just as many sleepless nights. Walked out with a diagnosis of chest, ear and sinus infection and a strong dose of antibiotics. I feel grim.

The whole waiting room was filled with similar coughs amd sniffles.

mrsmoppp · 08/10/2023 11:55

I'm currently at work feeling very sorry for myself - absolutely full of it and running on a few hours sleep. Unfywe don't all have the luxury of being able to take time off 😑

piscofrisco · 08/10/2023 12:10

Me. It started three weeks ago, felt better after week 1, but still a bit under the weather. It came back with a vengeance on Friday afternoon. Fed up with it tbh.

It’s not a luxury. It’s the only sensible response. Stop giving your horrible germs to people who may be less equipped than you to fight them off.

Dottydoodoo · 08/10/2023 13:44

Yes! I've had it a week and so far it's been grim, sneezing, coughing, shivery, throat like daggers, I lost my voice for three days which pleased DH no end 😂 my voice is back now now but I seem to have developed sinusitis so sound as if I have a permanent peg on my nose!

Three LFTs over the week have all been negative, and no one else at home has got it thank goodness but it's a nasty one.

I hope everyone else suffering feels better soon

Tadpolle · 08/10/2023 21:57

This sounds exactly like what I just had. LFT (green and white box with Chinese writing as well as English) showed covid neg. LFT from NHS box that was white with dark blue writing showed up very positive straight away.

I think most LFTs in uk now are old, past their best plus are not designed for new variant.

I'm not paying for tests. Who bothers with those anyway

We had loads leftover from the pandemic because DP had to test lots because of his job. The crappy ones are now dried up and don't work. The better ones picked up my covid last week. I was glad because I could then decide to isolate from my elderly parent.

Just noticed your username! Grin

I don't care Matthew!

Cherrysoup · 09/10/2023 22:54

Yup. A colleague had it on Friday, I sent another colleague home at midday, my Dh was down (and vomited!) Friday night, I came down with it yesterday and came home early from work. Can’t eat, feel sick. No way am I going in tomorrow.

It is both a luxury and a sensible response.

If I don’t go to work I don’t get paid.

Same here! Felt really rough for a couple of days, exhausted and pain behind the eyes. Then felt better enough to go to work and almost back to normal the next 2 days, and then back downhill the day after. Felt so bad I bought a some Covid tests and couldn’t believe it was negative!
now I’ve got one permanently blocked nostril and having sneezing fits. A week later 😩

funbags3 · 09/10/2023 23:15

Had it for a week. I'm exhausted.

Goldmember · 09/10/2023 23:20

Yep, it's been brutal, much worse than a general cold. I'm on day 3 and starting to feel slightly better, the temperature has finally lowered and leg pains have gone. I suspect its covid, DD had it last week. I've not tested myself.

ASatisfyingThump · 09/10/2023 23:48

I'm on day two and feel like shit. DH had it last week and just slept for four days, but I don't have that luxury. Lemsip isn't even touching it 😫

In these days of WFH you cannot assume people work in an office.

You were very much being a lecture-y lemon, or perhaps a lemsip

Peepshowcreepshow · 09/10/2023 23:53

I'm on day 10 and feel slightly more human today. As pp said, am insanely snotty but at least the throat, headache and general feeling of flu-but-not-flu seems to have passed. My eyes were bizarrely affected, almost like bad hay fever.

theduchessofspork · 09/10/2023 23:53

Anyway, yes I do OP.

It’s a snot fest and v dull.

And I never get colds so I am also outraged
