Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm up & waiting for a coach to an open day at Hull Uni already. Dd1's friend is running slightly late so we're hoping it'll wait a few minutes if she's not here by the time it gets here! One, already full, coach is about to leave.

Dd2's sleeping- she got up to watch a stream of Adele from Vegas last night so will sleep a while yet I think! I'm not sure what her & her dad will do with the day.

I'm expecting.to be tired when we get in, so plan on shower, pj's & early night 💤

If not, I'll continue pulling out a crochet project I'm not happy with, in front of the TV

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning @lucysmam, I hope dd's friend makes it in time!

I'm on my second coffee of the day, I have the windows open and there's a lovely breeze. Looks quite gloomy today.

DC's want to go shopping for Halloween bits so will head into the nearest city, hopefully somewhere nice for lunch also.

It's been a busy week so I'm hoping for wine and a lazy night with a film. Anyone watched anything good lately?

lucysmam · 07/10/2023 09:23

@rosao she did! The driver had goody bags for everyone so she had time there as well. Dd1 speed-walked to meet her down the road & we're on our way now. Have fun Halloween shopping - I'm going to get out some of our decorations this coming week I think.

Still in bed. DD is at her dads, DH is having a shave. We're all full of some horrible virus that none of us can shake. I have a cat with a possible broken leg on cage rest until Monday when she can be x rated, no homes for any of the kittens and a bedroom to decorate! I just want to hide under the duvet for a week!

Good morning!

I am just eating some toast and then will make my third brew of the morning. Need to finish cleaning the kitchen from last night, hang the washing outside then we are heading off to a pub garden this afternoon as it's supposed to be a lovely day!

Just me and dc tonight so we are going to order a dominos and watch a film of their choice.

Simonjt · 07/10/2023 09:36

I hope the coach journey isn’t too long, I’m a life long hater of coaches. What course is she hoping to study?

I’m tilling a bathroom today, I’m a champion procrastinator, so this will take far longer than it needs to. I did the floor during the week, youtube was a life saver when I needed to do a slightly sloped bit where the shower is.

My husband is taking the smalls to a farm park that has a softplay bit and some good outdoor playgrounds, so they’ll be nicely tired later.

Our new sofa and some other furniture is being delivered today, so once that is all in can get a bit more organised, we only have built in cupboards in two of the bedrooms, so our sons room is essentially a floordrobe of boxes and bags at the moment.

ApolloandDaphne · 07/10/2023 09:37

It's my DHs 60th this weekend so we have four friends coming to have dinner with us and stay over. They were all supposed to be playing golf beforehand but the rain has put paid to that so it might be time to pull out the board games!

griegwithhimandhim · 07/10/2023 09:42

Morning all.

So far I've had a cup of tea and been to the supermarket to buy some cold remedy. I've also had a quick look through the local newspaper.

DH has gone out to do a big shop and look for a jumper, meanwhile on my list for this morning is to clean the porch windowsill and pull up a few weeds round the doorstep, put on a load of laundry and change our bed linen. I might then do a spot of tidying in the house before lunch. More general tasks await this afternoon. Living the dream!

We're having lasagne for tea and then going to some beer festival or other in the town and meeting one of DH's friends.

lucysmam · 07/10/2023 09:51

@Simonjt she's very interested in Law! It's probably about another hour ish to get there so about the same as getting to college (where we've left from) on the bus. Glad you'll finally have some comfy furniture! Is everyone settled now?

Happy birthday to your dh @ApolloandDaphne 🥳

Beer festival sounds fun @griegwithhimandhim enjoy!

Morning @lucysmam that sounds like a really exciting day! Is this the first open day you've been to?

Pottering morning here, early lunch then swimming this afternoon. Got the in-laws coming for dinner this evening, im making lasagne.

Then tonight DH and I are watching ghosts new series from last night!

Susiesue61 · 07/10/2023 09:58

I'm full of cold and feeling sorry for myself! So watching cricket this morning, then Tottenham at lunchtime. Might go for a wander on the beach after that and then stop for a drink somewhere

lucysmam · 07/10/2023 09:58

@Decafflatteplease yep! First of many I think, considering we went to every 6th form & college open day locally for the past 2 years. I'm looking forward to York ones! I had a bit of a "wtf! Uni open day!" moment this morning 🤣

I’m on holiday and looking at this.

Sorry.

Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?
Awrite · 07/10/2023 10:07

This time last year, we were doing the Open Day circuit. We are still adjusting to DD being away at uni (since early Sept), the house is so much quieter without her.

Today, I plan to rest after a busy week. DH and ds will probably play football at some point, watch football and maybe even game (football).

Enjoy the Open Day - it really is very exciting.

Xtraincome · 07/10/2023 10:12

@Justonedayatatime11 I hope your cat is OK?

Exciting for the PPs having uni aged kids on their open day rounds. Good luck!

DDs are on tablets early as I am cleaning (booooo!) and DH is off to Smyths toys to choose DD5 birthday gifts for Tuesday. Just watched first episode of S5 of Ghosts too 👻

@BIossomtoes I'll have a G&T please and will be joining you soon 😆

AdaColeman · 07/10/2023 10:13

Good morning!

I'm amazed that your DD is off to to Uni Open Days @lucysmam , as it doesn't seem very long ago that you were making your girls Disney fancy dress outfits. How quickly they grow up!
Have a great day in Hull.

I'm just having a quiet day here, though the dishwasher has just koncked out, so I'll be flaunting my Marigolds later!

OldTinHat · 07/10/2023 10:16

Oooh enjoy the open day @lucysmam. I remember those days, trooping about all over the country to visit unis!

I've been unwell all week so have lots of stuff to catch up with at home. Bah. But at least the washing will dry on this gorgeous day.

Have a great Saturday everyone!

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 07/10/2023 10:16

Good morning Lucysmam and others. What an exciting time for your dd! All the choices and life to come. I have had two coffees and a bagel. The washing is on, I've been to Aldi and back and I'm having a cuppa and a Belgian bun. Today is a cooking day. I'll make lentil and ham soup with the ham hock, a slow cooker pot of Ragu and spiced red cabbage for Christmas. Lots to freeze. Enjoy the open day, one of many, I'm sure

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 07/10/2023 10:19

I was up at 5am with dd2 but she fell back asleep by 6 after a bottle. Then dh rang at 8 and woke us both up! He’s in South Africa for work currently so forgot about the time zone. She’s finally fallen asleep on me now so will put her down in crib for a sleep.

Dd1 in her room still as she has a new bed she’s enjoying. I said I’d take her out today to look at Halloween and autumn stuff so might go to the range with her. It’s supposed to be sunny today so I’ll get all the bedding and blankets washed and hung out. Dh is flying home tonight so I’m looking forward to seeing him tomorrow.

piscofrisco · 07/10/2023 10:19

Good morning @lucysmam and all.

Im lazing around after an awful nights sleep, dd17 went out into town with her pals and decided not to come home-I can see on life 360 she is at her friends house and the friends mum has messaged me to say she is there, but I didn't sleep much and there will be words later. She is 18 on Boxing Day but there's still a way to go before she can do quite just what she wants when she wants. I don't feel super well-the weird non covid virus that's going about-and I'm not happy with her!

Dh has taken dss1 to football, DSS2 is on his PlayStation shouting at his friend Haznin, and DD2 is up fake tanning herself as her almost boyfriend his coming later and then she has work.

I was going to paint the bathroom today but I don't think I've got the energy. DH will be back at lunch time and we might try and drag the Boys out for a walk as the weather is beautiful here (SE). Early dinner and maybe I'll go back to bed for a bit-Then both girls need picking up from work at 11 and 11.30 respectively. So a long day for me.pesky kids!! Wink

NavyKitchen · 07/10/2023 10:22

I'm going out! Getting dressed up, going to a party and staying in a fancy hotel with dh! I'm even leaving my teeny, tiny children (21, 18 and 13) to fend for themselves ALL NIGHT for the first time 🥴 Ds3 (13) is sensible though so he'll look after the other two!

piscofrisco · 07/10/2023 10:24

Enjoy the open day @lucysmam . DD1 has decided she wants to go to Sheffield or nowhere Hmm. So that's done and done for us. She really wants a degree apprenticeship and to carry on living with us whilst she does it to save money. Not if she carries on as she did last night 😂😂

lucysmam · 07/10/2023 10:27

@piscofrisco you must be local ish to me from your post. Dd1 has discounted both Hallam and Sheffield for precisely those reasons - she doesn't want to live at home & wants the experience further away! It'll be very strange without my sidekick when she does go!

cardibach · 07/10/2023 10:29

My sister and her DDs coming later to stay and then going out this evening with them and my DD (all DDs adults, and very lovely ones too - we’ve done ok at this parenting lark!). It’s a big rugby day and I’m in Cardiff so we may have to be flexible with where we eat/drink as some places will be a bit lairy. Excited. Have to clean the kitchen first, though (boo!) and am fighting off a migraine with heavy duty drugs so may have a disco nap before they arrive at around 3!

piscofrisco · 07/10/2023 10:32

Ah no we're SE now, but originally from Sheffield. (We got up a lot to watch Wednesday mind).
If she gets a degree apprenticeship she will go for one in London or Cambridge as she can commute to both of those easily from our house. I think she thinks alternatively, if she does get in and go to Sheffield, my mum will be feeding her and doing her washing 😂 (mum and dad are still there). I hate to break it to her but my Mum stopped doing my washing when I was 13 and still living at home 😂.

squashyhat · 07/10/2023 10:46

Watching a particularly chaotic Saturday Kitchen at the moment - Lenny Henry creating havoc. We got back from a fantastic holiday in Japan a couple of weeks ago and are missing it so making sushi later on to eat while watching the England/Samoa match and then catching up on Strictly. I've just realised how much telly that isBlushSo may squeeze in a walk to compensate.
